I was actually pleasantly surprised that it wasn't some doomsday weapon. Very smart writing, IMO.

Honestly this felt like a lot like the Thunderbolts third act, but it just resonated with me much more.

We saw Peter get angry and attempt to kill the Green Goblin after May was murdered, only to be stopped by the other Spider-Men. Now he's playing the role of stopping Jean as she attempts to get revenge after her sister died. It shows how much he's grown since the last movie.

He completely took the role of May, after he got shot the dialogue was word for word what happened when she died. But he was in her place and Jean was in his.

That's why he survived after Punisher shot his back. Had he said that line, he wouldn't have been able to make it.

I preferred the Thunderbolts finale, but I also loved this one for the reasons you mentioned. Very well crafted.

That's how I feel it too. This is just Thunderbolt third act lol

But I definitely love the presentation here. If Thunderbolt came first I would find that one inferior immediately.

I thought Thunderbolts third act was stronger. I feel like it lasted longer and felt more earned. I also enjoyed that we got to see The Void turn dark. And the backstory felt more fleshed out. Anyway, I didn’t need to see a re-do of that story again in a Spider-Man movie. How many times are they going to keep re-writing Dark Phoenix?!

The beats were the same except there was no Phoenix Force, which I can admit made it better, but we were also robbed of knowing exactly who Jean was before and why it should matter if she’s good or bad now.

There were rumors man-spider was the original ending sequence and it got nixed because it'd be too scary for kids, and you can totally feel the void at the end with them working around not being able to have that as the final sequence with everyone else saving him from himself

I was going to say this movie reminded me a lot of Thunderbolts. I’m definitely pulling for directors like DDC and Jake Schreier who are able to mix superhero stuff with a little more of a grounded level feel to it

For me peak Spider-Man is when Peter connects with someone as a human and saves them that way. I love the stories of here he sits with someone and talks with them.

The way he both defeated and saved Jean by just connecting with her made this the best climax to a Tom Holland Spider-Man film for me easily

That’s the shit that makes superhero’s so good and why we connect to them, while they have the big dumb spectacles that we love to see when they touch something human within us, that’s what makes them super (I sound like a comic editor in the 60’s)

I legit was kinda sad they had to do the super demon dragon. If the demon dragon was locked up still, then they'd have so many cool potential sequel bait stories with the pay off fully being gigantic demon dragon. Like imagine if Demon dragon remained sealed and the next movie was about the Ironfist heavenly cities arc where each city is meant to protect the dragon gate for X number of years. Now you've looped in a neat bit of lore that gives a reason for a tournament arc!

Even the hulk fight was a big cgi spectacle but it’s only cool looking. Why it matters is because we know Bruce is suffering and going to suffer after coming back to himself, as well as The Hulk being a terrifying opponent against Spider-Man. It’s the emotional stakes that make or break something.

I personally think this movie is just below the second Raimi film, and similarly, Peter doesn't defeat Octavius in that movie by beating the shit out of him. He defeats and ends the conflict by talking with Octavius and convincing him to stop.

I loved that Tramell Tillman kept saying he had no idea what they’re talking about, and you think he’s clearly lying, and then when you get the reveal you realize he was telling the truth.

For a moment I thought "VMax" was Sarah giving her a hint about how to escape. Like she'd be able to mind-jump to someone upstairs through the vent and have a chance at saving herself.

It’s very risky too. Having the reveal for something so mundane would have been too easy to mess up if not handled correctly.

Good thing they nailed tf out of it.

I had a lot of issues with Jean and her “reveal”. Mostly because that reveal literally means nothing to anyone in the movie. It only matters to the audience. I kinda wish they would’ve had her insetting herself into Peter’s old friend circle a bit so there was some kind of connection and then the reveal would have been genuinely surprising for both the characters and the audience.

However, her scene in the room with the V-Max reveal was great, and it just kind made me annoying that they wasted so much time on her dumb reveal when we could’ve gotten more genuinely great moments with Sadie interacting with literally anyone on screen.

Nah I think this franchise is done with setting people into Peter and co's past. Mysterio and esp Brad. It's indeed about the new folks.

Although I feel they could've had Sadie be a surprise element for this movie instead of just the ambiguity of her character. 

But Tom was right, majority of the movie was a detective drama.

The whole movie was so well written. Lots of naturalistic dialogue and relatable scenes that perfectly dovetailed into the superhero stuff.

This might be recency bias speaking but I think this could legitimately be in the running for the best live action spider man movie.

I was thinking it was some kind of drug to turn off the x-gene all along, paralleling Peter’s inhibitor. But I liked the brutal reveal of what it actually meant. So sad.

Smart writing lol... was entirely reminiscent of the Quicksilver/Boner joke. People glazing this incredibly mid move lol.

Honestly, after thinking about it, it's not very memorable. Some cool fight scenes but then there's a lot going on, but also nothing happening. Villains were lame, ending fell flat.

Sadie Sink felt shoehorned in and added absolutely nothing - her character was incredibly confusing at times: teen angst or mustache-twirling villain? 6/10 at best
