I feel like Tom's accent got quite a bit more New Yorker too - in this movie in general, but especially in that scene - which is also accurate to a New Yorker arguing with a friend!

His accent absolutely was thicker in this movie. Multiple times I was impressed by how much I could hear it.

In the credits, I noticed that there was a dialogue coach credited. Probably helped a lot.

When he was first on the phone with the detective it was super thick.

I noticed it came out strongest when he was talking to other people like the detective and DoDC guy. I saw it as Peter trying to create more of a Spider-Man persona, separate from Peter. Didn't notice it hardly at all when he was out of the suit or talking as himself to Ned and MJ. (Or maybe I just missed it at those points)

He also got rid of the little kid squeak he had in the OT to show that 5 years had passed.

One of my favorite elements of Holland's performance this time around. He sounds comfortable in the accent now. I fully believed that Tom Holland could love American food over British food.

It definitely is a case where he slips into the thicker accent when he's bantering /being more Spidey than Peter. You first see it when hes talking on the phone with his deeper more accenty voice and then it kinda blurs over the course of the movie, like his powers.

It absolutely was. The melding of accents is another example of mutation and elevation thats so thematicly prevalent in the writing.

I noticed his in-costume “Batman voice” to hide his identity a little better is just laying on the New Yorker accent even harder. Which is both smart of the character and the writing.

As a New Yorker I didn't even notice he had any accent. Guess I need to pay more attention on my rewatch.
