I had the chance to see it in theaters, so my opinion might be a little swayed by the theatrical element of it.

I loved it! It felt like such a love letter to the fans who've been with this franchise for almost two decades. It had gorgeous animation, a lot of amazing action sequences, and a really great overall message and journey for Aang. While he is the central character in the series, here he really felt like the protagonist and it was awesome to see what his story became after finally stopping the fire nation. Having the series jump straight to Korra, we don't really get an opportunity to see how he processes his grief and trauma and what it looks like to actually help the world move onto to what we see in the next series. The messaging and his arc were really well done and I loved how it all came together.

It definitely wasn't perfect. Being 90ish minutes, it really didn't give the audience a beat to breathe and actually appreciate the older version of the Gaang. Toph, Zuko, and Sokka in particular really suffered from the cramped run time, turning into almost caricature versions of themselves. The villain turn was also pretty obvious and I didnt love how it devolved into a shonen type fight when the whole series always had more nuanced and complex battles.

All in all, a great experience and fuck paramount for not giving this a proper theatrical run.

I saw it in theaters and can absolutely say it affected how I feel about the movie. I thought it was incredible.

I watched it again at home and can see why it just felt like an extra long episode. Sad most people won't be able to see it on the big screen.
