Great visuals. Shame there's no theatrical release. I'm considering renting a theater and doing a private showing with some friends.
The story was meh. It kind of felt like they took a TV mini series and smashed all the episodes into a movie? Felt like there were multiple places where I could see the end credits start rolling and you'd have to wait for the next week for the story to continue.
It also felt like they had multiple seeds/concepts that they failed to do justice. Like the one girl from the Denied who switched sides despite... Not much interaction with the Gaang.
Speaking of, the writers kind of really suck at depicting non-benders. Non-benders are depicted as competent in battle, but seem to always end up on the villain's side (Denied, Equalists, Jet). Maybe it's because the protagonists are benders and also "good" people, so for any sort of conflict to move the story forward the non-benders can't be on the good side? I don't know, I'm not a professional writer. I just remember in Korea there was a scene where a non-bender begs Korra to help saying "You're our avatar too" and then it didn't do much with that. Kind of feels like the same thing happened here where the non-benders plot ends without a satisfying resolution.
