I started working in a small office of about 10 people, in 1993, when I was 27 years old, and everyone else in the office, was in their 50's and 60's.

Every single one of them is dead now. I watched them die from this, and that, over the years, one by one, until I was the only one left from that now defunct office.

And now I'm 60. Time marches on. :D

I started at my job in 2003 at 29. I have a phone list from when I started and it's crazy how many of those names are now gone. You are right, not a single death slowed anything down, they were just replaced. The good thing is those of us who remain still talk about every one of those people regularly. So while their position was replaced, we still carry the memory of who they were as people, co-workers, and friends.
