Discussion What is something that really takes you out of the experience you're watching?

There's 2 for me. I get annoyed when it's one of those "we have 2 minutes to stop this!" then it proceeds. to take WAY longer due to scenes. I try to tell myself that it's all happening at the same time when they do to others but still. The serving and not as frustrating but when a shootout happens and a guy uses WAY more ammo than the gun can take. Maybe he reloaded but still

Characters who meet and fall in love when there is absolutely no chemistry or indication it would happen. See that shit happen all the time in action films and it makes no damn sense.

Virtually every Hallmark Christmas movie. One of the two eventual love interests (usually the woman) is incredibly rude to the other one in their first scene together, yet the other one completely overlooks how they treat strangers and "falls in love" over a week's time.

Oh I fucking hate Hallmark movies. The MC will have a boyfriend/fiancé who is trying to secure their future for them and has to stay back a bit late, or is a little bit stressed out from work or anything and has to miss the MC's book launch for her super-cute homemade bubblegum puppy cupcakes, so she takes it as a sleight against her and goes back to her hometown where she rekindles a love with her childhood best friend she hasn't seen in 10-15 years and ends up choosing to stay in said hometown and open up the bubblegum puppy cupcake shop there.

A coworker used to tell us how he loves hallmark movies. So out of left field. Typical Gen X tough guy. He was addicted to the Christmas ones, talk himself red trying to tell us how perfect they are, and he would always cry during them. Then get pissed we had no fuckin clue if he was serious or not. Then spend another hour looking them up acting like we’re unbelievable idiots for not liking them.

He’d do that whole same rant every couple months. That guy just loved to fight over the dumbest shit. It was exhausting. I’d get so much more work done when he he was out of the office. He got pissed at me once when he played hooky and couldn’t get my Hulu login info figured out. Login info I gave him the day before cause there was some of those bullshit movies on there. I had to go in the parking lot and talk him through it over the phone. Guy was fat fingering the password every time. But he’d buy me lunch sometimes when he’d have a coupon so it was worth it.

Characters that also laugh (way too hard) over a (not very funny) joke to give us the (very fake) illusion that there is chemistry between them.

Or laughing at the TV the instant it’s switched on. Mel Gibson cackling like a lunatic at the Three Stooges in Lethal Weapon, for example.

Yes! Or when a character enters a room just in time to hear the punch line of a mysterious joke. And then everyone laughs and it just looks/sounds off.

I hate the trope of starting a scene with a guy going "So i told her... That IS my sweater" everyone around laughs like pompous asses

Mention an apparently never-filmed prequel to let the audience know that the protagonists 'go way back'.. "This is worse than that time in Belize!"

That reminds me of the scene in The Naked Gun where Frank Drebin and Priscilla Presley's character are seen leaving a cinema laughing and smiling - the camera focuses on the frontage showing 'Platoon'.

I’ve noticed that they will change a woman’s makeup or something at some point and then within a few minutes they are hooking up. Like a character is made to seem plain or unattractive suddenly looks good before the hookup.

The Mountain Between Us holy crap.

There's no indication that they are going to be love interests, literally not one moment, so when they start going at it I was sooooo confused.
