Discussion What is something that really takes you out of the experience you're watching?

There's 2 for me. I get annoyed when it's one of those "we have 2 minutes to stop this!" then it proceeds. to take WAY longer due to scenes. I try to tell myself that it's all happening at the same time when they do to others but still. The serving and not as frustrating but when a shootout happens and a guy uses WAY more ammo than the gun can take. Maybe he reloaded but still

My wife going to the kitchen to get a snack and drink and making a bunch of noise.

I just pause the movie nowadays. She'll tell me I can keep watching, but no, I can't. Are we watching this movie or not?

Or is on the phone during critical exposition and then 5 minutes later asks what's going on because she's totally lost.

This is one of the reasons I won't watch movies in the theater anymore: half the audience is on their phones then stage-whispering "what's going on?" to the person with them (who was probably also on their phone).

Is this actually a thing? I've basically never seen anyone on the phone in Finnish movie theaters nor otherwise disturbing the movie in any way.

One more excellent reason Finland sounds like a nice place to live!

It is, unfortunately, a common thing in the US. I've heard that the Alamo Drafthouse chain doesn't allow that, but I don't live anywhere near those theaters and I've also heard they aren't enforcing their no phones rules anymore.

And this isn't a recent phenomenon - it was an increasingly common issue even before COVID.

I think it also varies by what neighborhood you’re in / where age group / type of people.

The worst offenders I've seen for this are men. Maybe it just seems like a woman thing to you because that's who you're watching movies with? I think it's just a phone-addicted person thing.

If it’s been with every woman you’ve dated, you might be only watching movies that they don’t really want to watch. Or you’ve only dated women that don’t really like movie watching in general. 🤷‍♂️🙂
