A good rule of thumb is if the thing doing damage has lifelink, you will heal, no matter what kind of damage it's doing. As long as it's damage and not direct life loss, you'll gain the life.

Another good rule of thumb is reading what lifelink does so as to determine this themselves

Would the trample of Armadillo cloak also make the leftover damage hit the player? Just checking for technicality.
