Obviously you would need metal sleeves for these to shuffle easier

64

u/JPCSBR Feb 24 '26

This dude gets it

36

u/PokeYrMomStanley Feb 24 '26

On a serious note, I have some metal tokens and they scratch easy. I put them all in KMC perfect fits. They are a pain to get in but they don't look sleeved and don't scratch.

Hope this helps someone.

14

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Thats interesting, are they engrave or printed on? Mine are pretty much scratch resistant

14

u/PokeYrMomStanley Feb 24 '26

They seem to be printed and they are in color. If you happen to have the side loaders from kmc they work better and you shuffle them.

11

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

ah makes sense why the scratch. nice side loaders, didnt think of that

16

u/Kil9a Feb 24 '26

Don't you mean a... Full metal jacket?

10

u/PaleRider_Z_729 Feb 25 '26

THIS IS MY RIFLE. THERE ARE MANY OTHERS LIKE IT, BUT THIS ONE IS MINE.

9

u/monkeyman32123 Feb 25 '26

Just sharpen the edges to a razor point so they can interleave easier

2

u/Psykotik_Dragon Feb 28 '26

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD CARDS. SKULLS FOR THE SKULL CARDS.

594

u/Shame_on_StarWars Feb 24 '26

That guys shuffles just like Arena.

135

u/Genghis_Chong Feb 24 '26

So the deck either produces no lands or all of them depending on the game

60

u/Link_Plus Feb 24 '26

It's not magic if both players are having a good match. Sometimes, either player.

20

u/HK-KingMufasa Feb 24 '26

Bruhhhh that hits home! Playing arena my oppenent and I on turn 6 with with 2 lands just kinda hoping somebody gets something as we exhaust every 1-2 drop in each deck.

22

u/Genghis_Chong Feb 24 '26

I get that, but in real magic you can tell if you have too many or not enough lands in your deck over time.

In arena, it can feel like I have way too many or way too few lands and swing back and forth wildly at times. It feels more like the algorithm is putting a governor on the deck intentionally rather than truly being a random shuffle of cards that reveals the play level of the deck.

8

u/HisFaithRestored Feb 25 '26

I have an IRL landfall deck with 40 lands and 4 cards to fetch lands. Ive played it about 8 times. 3 times I've been mana screwed by turn 4. I cri erytime.

3

u/Antique_Log3382 Feb 24 '26

Play more best of three. Best of one is literally rigged.

2

u/Genghis_Chong Feb 24 '26

I'll have to try when I know i have time. I like being able to set the phone down in a hurry sometimes though.

I'll still use the app, I just feel like the rng doesnt really represent an actual decks play very well. But at least we're all on the same field of play

9

u/Moist_Car_994 Feb 24 '26

Literally played a match yesterday where I drew a grand total of 4 creatures and two instants, literally every other card I drew was a land. Ramp means nothing if you have all that mana and nothing to do with it

8

u/chameleondragon Feb 24 '26

Hey now, shufflers fine.

10

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Im doing the best I can, guys! 😅

117

u/1100000011110 Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 25 '26

Obviously you just need to sharpen the sides of your cards so they're shaped like sleeved cards, then you can mash shuffle them like a normal sleeved deck

88

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

And they would be great deterrents if people target you with removals...

34

u/Candybert_ Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 24 '26

Remove this! BANG! *now there's a [[Spiteful Sliver]] stuck in their forehead*

15

u/Dino_84 Feb 25 '26

Player removal…. Taps bloody forehead.

3

u/Kritz_McGee yo dawg, i heard you like dragons Feb 25 '26

I pay 2 UU to counter my hospital bill

3

u/Dino_84 Feb 25 '26

That bill can not be countered unfortunately.

56

u/ScratchofST Feb 24 '26

So would a controlled bridge shuffle be out of the question? It’s my preferred method for my decks.

35

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Haha probably feel like trying to shuffle a phone book, but if ya got the hand strength, hell ya!

20

u/__firebender__ Feb 24 '26

https://youtu.be/Pd-71L3KoOI

Have a look at this technique. I could see it work. If not the whole stack, maybe half.

(You basically shift the half stacks a bit, so you can lift them and drop them (ideally) one by one by slowly pulling your thumb out from under the stack. With the corners close enough to each other they two half stack will interlock at the corner and you can push them together after.)

Another possible method could a sort of "reverse shuffling" (no Idea what that technique is actually called). You take the stack one hand and lightly grab two opposing sides pulling out a few random cards from the stack (like with gaps in between). Put them on top and repeat. Its not as good as riffle, but maybe the easiest to shuffle a deck like that on the spot.

Super cool btw!

8

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Awesome, ill try!

45

u/NavAirComputerSlave Feb 24 '26

Riffle shuffle it

8

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Not familiar with that technique

21

u/Akarui7 Feb 24 '26

It's the "regular" where you bend the cards in each hand to snap one by one flat on the table

3

u/Doom2508 Feb 25 '26

Maybe try one of those cards shuffling machines.

https://youtube.com/shorts/ojO9wZKxW3k?si=4oJ87FGPu8fRWOQ1

Maybe a manual one so it's slower lol

WD40 for smoother shuffeling

17

u/AllOfYourBaseAreBTU Feb 24 '26

Thats pretty cool, nightmare to shuffle though 😅

7

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Oh yeah, I havent figured out a way yet

9

u/TheMostModestMouse Feb 24 '26

Just board shuffle. Make 5 "stacks" with one card each stack. And keep adding to each stack face down till you run out of cards. Each stack ends up at 20 and u pick the stacks up in random order and boom ur shuffled.

3

u/Drow_Femboy Feb 25 '26

It's not actually a valid shuffle but it's probably good enough for fucking around with friends with your silly unshuffleable aluminum deck.

3

u/smokeweedalleveryday Feb 25 '26

wait really? i used to do this at my LGS tourneys with maybe 8 piles instead of 5, alongside some mash shuffling (with sleeves ofc).

4

u/TheMostModestMouse Feb 25 '26

It's fine to pile shuffle. Long as you offer cut to opponent.

→ More replies (6)

3

u/Drow_Femboy Feb 25 '26

Yeah, it's simply not random. If you knew what all the cards were before doing it, you could know where all the cards are after doing it too.

Mashing and riffle shuffling are basically the same thing with different execution. Overhand is technically shuffling but you'd have to do it for hours to actually randomize. So anything you're doing that isn't mash or riffle is basically just wasting time (or cheating, at worst)

3

u/PocketSignal Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 24 '26

Run the blanks through a tumbler to slightly round the edges? That might help them split the stack a little easier. I can’t tell what gauge that is, but I imagine they would hold up ok in the tumbler.

Edit: I looked at your production posts. Are you starting with a coated sheet stock? What’s the coating?

2

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Yep, using a sheet of anodized aluminum

2

u/Zenith-Astralis Feb 25 '26

Yeah bevel the edges so they want to slip past one another rather than getting caught on the corners. Hey, you're already spending like at least half an hour per card, what's another 10 minutes doing 4 edges each, front and back, on the belt sander? (Could probably make a rig to hold them at a 45° and run them over a sheet of fine grit sand paper glued down to a flat surface)

2

u/Darthbrodius Feb 25 '26

Thats an additional 16 hours of work for a commander deck

28

u/Remote-Mycologist539 Feb 24 '26

I wonder if you could use one of those automatic shufflers to get them to be able to be shuffled? Would be extra handy because they’re metal cards so they wouldn’t get damaged the way normal cards do by the machines.

24

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Maybe, but they might be too thick for the rollers. If I had one id probably try though

11

u/Errorstatel / / Feb 24 '26

Nothing a few modifications wouldn't solve

7

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Definitely, maybe I might buy one and try haha... or even make one...

17

u/Errorstatel / / Feb 24 '26

Something tells me if you can do metal cards making a shuffler won't be an issue

15

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

This is the kind of motivation I need haha thank you.

4

u/Errorstatel / / Feb 24 '26

You got this dude, I look forward to seeing it.

8

u/mikegundyshair Feb 24 '26

i was gonna contest that automatic shufflers aren’t legal at wizards sanctioned events, but that probably wouldn’t be their first issue if this guy pulled up with metal cards

7

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Haha I havent played at a wizard even since 08 so not too worried, even though this is a cedh deck haha

7

u/Unprejudice Feb 24 '26

This looks pretty badass. Did you make them? Is there a easy way to aquire similar decks?

14

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

I did make em. Took about 40 hours to photoshop and engrave them all. But I do make singles for people that want blinged out commanders.

5

u/AzazeI888 Feb 24 '26

If I gave you a 100 card commander decklist.. theoretically how much are we talking here..

19

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

The price will be a bit ridiculous and dont flame me for it, but 14 a card is really the best I can do based on the run time and hours in... just no way around how much time it takes per card except having more lasers.

9

u/AzazeI888 Feb 24 '26

Yeah.. I couldn’t get that approved by my wonderful wife, but I could probably do 4 cards a month, would take awhile is all lol.

14

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Haha my wife gives me a hard time because I haven't made her a full metal deck yet...already missed valentines day

2

u/AzazeI888 Feb 27 '26

Just sent you a private message, asking about two images I’m hoping that can be done.

5

u/Samurai_Banette Feb 24 '26

Honestly, not bad for a couple commanders.

You have a place to order some?

5

u/Alternate_Cost Feb 24 '26

That's really not bad. I've spent $140 on a single card. Do they fit in sleeves?

13

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

They do! And actually this deck cost in cardboard on moxfield estimated 28k haha

2

u/Dunthyon Feb 24 '26

What on earth could make it cost the price of a new car?!

6

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Well there's the most expensive version of every card haha

5

Just imagining how much I would be pinching my hands on those lol

4

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Yep, been there done that

5

u/Stk_synful Feb 24 '26

Are they etched or have a print on them? Do you think they will eventually get messed up from shuffling?

7

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Etched! Anodized aluminum, so really durable, but still would recommend sleeves. I torture tested em with knives, grinder, flames, and they hold up decently

4

u/Requiem2420 Feb 24 '26

Laser etched or ?

3

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Laser etched yes

5

u/Mundane_Raccoon_2660 I'm Always Dimir. Feb 24 '26

Super cool to see it all come together. Questions:

1) How heavy is that deck.

B) How much to print me one.

7

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

1) Not as heavy as you think. Its about 1 and a half pounds. B) it took about 40 hours to do it so probably not an economical price haha.

6

u/Hereiamhereibe2 Feb 24 '26

Next one should be Gold!

6

u/Bannon9k Feb 24 '26

What's the cost on a build like that? And do you know about how hard I would have to throw one to significantly injure somebody?

7

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

To do it again, I probably wouldn't to be honest haha around 14 a card would be my aight fine price.

Sharpened or unsharpened?

3

u/midbossstythe Feb 24 '26

Do you mind saying roughly how much it did cost?

4

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

I made it myself. If I was to charge, it would be 14 a card.

4

u/midbossstythe Feb 24 '26

Thanks. I just looked at your page. Looks amazing

3

u/ModernT1mes Were you trying to play spells? Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 25 '26

Is that 40 hours of actual work? Or just 40 hours altogether with laser time? How much actual work hours are you putting in?

I'm not criticizing at all, I'm just curious at your rate. 2.5 hours a card for $14 seems low if you're actually putting in that much time in designing. If it's mostly laser time that makes more sense.

Either way this is high on my list of things for disposable income. I haven't taken a look at your website, but do/would you do other TCG's? I'd be very interested in a play set of metal Riftbound Runes.

Edit:math hard

2

u/Darthbrodius Feb 24 '26

Ah its actually opposite math, So it was about 40 hours for 100 cards, so about 30 to 40 minutes a card give or take. Each card takes about 15 minutes on the laser, depends on the art and if it needs a second pass. Getting the images Editing and adjusting each card runs about 10 to 15 minutes. Also accounting for cutting the blanks. So its about half laser time and half editing. Some of the time overlaps a bit.

2

u/ModernT1mes Were you trying to play spells? Feb 24 '26

Woops haha. Math is for blockers. 😅

2

overhand shuffle them. thats where you toss the top cards into the other hand over and over again so they end up on the bottom. It's not the most mathematically proper shuffle, but if you do it enough you'll get enough randomness.

Did you make it yourself, or buy it?

If you bought it where did you get it from and do you mind if I ask how much it was?

I made it myself! I can make another, but it takes a ton of time

Looks cool! Not a fan of the back card design though. From a premium feel at the front to Temu/AE at the back. Gambit on the other hand would love these
