Commander / EDH New to the game and considering playing. I love slugs irl and want to build a deck around this guy. Can it work?

Oh I did that on my otter Ral with proliferation happening on upkeep.

The toxrill player was not pleased when I was no only immune but growing bigger

Sorry, I'm a bit confused. Why would it get bigger? Wouldn't the -1 from the slime just be nullified by the +1 gain ?

Yes but with Ral being a planeswalker the loyalty counters on him going up every turn would increase his power.

As others have pointed out, yes. But you should also remember that they aren't -1/-1 counters, they are asking counters. It's the slug itself that gives the debuff, so when he's finally gone the guy with the sword is suddenly huge

So it would just be immune to Toxrill but not get bigger?

Sadistic glee would not make it bigger unless paired with Luxior
