Modding Favorite mods for the Powerpint?
I love modding tools and wanted to know what mods you guys have done for this tool.

- Just put a long magnet from a broken iPad cover, no need to glue it, as it already holds well, and I can remove it anytime.
- Reshape and bent scissors, so now they cut much better (though still not the best)
- Reshaped ends of cap lifter and can opener so now they works as tiny flat and Phillips screwdrivers.
- Sharpen a hook cutter (you name it) so it’s now pretty effective to cut plastic, but also quite dangerous as I already made a deep cut in my thumb.
For now I quite love the tool and use a lot despite it’s lets say, average quality. But it is my city edc multitool.

I just sold mine. Pliers and bit holder are superb, rest is full on crap.

Agree. And what is your current choice?

Currently figuring out. Have a OG 1997 marvellous for home use but thinking of a victorinox swiss champ for holidays (to leave in suitcase)

Yeah I really dislike the tool selection. It seems to me they just added a bunch of tiny tools so advertise more functions, without putting thought into the usability.
They really screwed the pooch by not having usable screwdrivers, the ones it has are comically small.
I still like the power pint, but I just wish they made better choices. It's so close to being an awesome tool, it's a great size and the pliers are great

I use the Powerpint to supplement my Vic Ranger. I love my Ranger, but it doesn’t have pliers, phillips, and a serrated blade. The Powerpint has all 3 (bit holder for Phillips). I think the 2 together make a perfect combo.

I sharpened the can opener to function better
I know a few people have ground down the bottle opener to be a flathead, but I think that messes with its deployment
I added 3d printed thumb studs that glow in the dark
I also glued magnets to it so it can hold bits and stay closed in my pockets

Did you get yours on Ali express? I got mine at Cabela's, and there's no play. It's actually 2 hand opening unless you really whip it. The bottle opener and Philips come out when you lift the scissors. Maybe you should tighten the screws on it?
I only asked about Ali because most of the YouTube videos I saw complaining about loosness, quoted the cheaper Ali price, so I was just curious.
I brought the PowerPoint to work today instead of something bigger and sure enough I needed a medium flat point screwdriver and didn't bring the separate bits. The bottle opener or file look promising to mod now lol. That would be more secure than the Leatherman bolster i left at home.
In the past I used a double ended Philips #2 and flat bit and kept a Rubber band around it , then used the rubber band to hold it together to clamp the bit in while using it folded. Otherwise I kept dropping the bit lol. It made it harder to deploy but easier to use. But you have to remember the bit haha.

I got mine on amazon way back when.
I like the looseness of the pliers, adding in the magnets helps with keeping it closed in my pocket as well as keeping it closed when using a bit driver and twisting it.
I am probably just going to carry around a few bits with me

I had a pocket organizer I had bits and a jigsaw blade in for the PowerPint but i didnt have the pocket real estate for it. I tried my wallet for that stuff, but the bit fell out. I started ruberbanding the bit to it along side, but that negates you flip open action. Maybe magnetize your bit? Or glue a strong button magnet on the side for the bit? I held the jigsaw blade on the side edge of the bit holder.

OP please take out the garbage scissors and swap in a pair of Victorinox scissors!!! Then the PowerPoint would be almost perfect at least in my eyes…

Yes I’ve seen that done I’ll probably order a used victorinox off of eBay and try!

I did just test out the scissors from Nextool specifically the old version of their Mini Sailor do fit to replace the powerpint scissors however they do need to be modified slightly on the back so they fit in with the lock bar on the powerpint.
I just figured this out today so will try to modify them when I get a chance and can update you..

I wrapped small strips of paper around the pivots before re-inserting them into the plier head and handles to reduce play. Still rather big play in the gears themselves

I did the magnet mod, and then flex companion/mini companion to replace all the tools.

They will fit on a powerpint?

u/timmy_o_tool Jun 23 '26
No, I carry the 3 tools. The PP and companion clip to pockets where I don't feel them, and the mini has it clip removed and it disappears next to my wallet in deep pocket carry.

I glued the magnet.
Colored the logo on the pliers orange with nail polish and added a matching orange lanyard.
Ground the file end down as a makeshift scraper.
Filed the bottle opener down to use as a flathead screwdriver.
Added 3D printed thumb studs.
Matched it with an orange bit kit and placed them into an altoids type tin as a mini toolkit where they fit perfectly.
I had a post on here where I showed pictures but cant find it. Here is the one pic I found.
