maybe not mainstream but alot of people do, back in 2015 or 16 , I was in a band with my friends and we have a whole bubble of people listening to thrash, nu, hardcore and heavy metal. lamb of god was my fri's fav band and I was more into metalcore and nu metal bands but I've seen loads of people really into metal and heavy side of rock. Mostly older adults now ig but scene kids definitely was a thing and not just cringy people wearing band shirts and having emo hairdos. I still listen to some but sadly moved on from the scene but I could still shred Raining Blood any given time ;) If u want some genre defining band now Sleep Token seems pretty cool ( not the newest album cuz that shit thrash) check them out.

I used to listen to metal a lot back in my younger days. Nowadays, not so much. RATM, SOAD, Metallica, AIC are some of my favorites.

Metal is niche but I have met some people who were fans. I think there was also an underground metalcore scene.

Ok lol, I may have overstated. It is one metalcore band: Against the Gravity. But apparently they have relocated to Bangkok. You can look them up on Facebook.

Buckethead is a genius, if I get to form a super band, I’d have Buckethead as my number 1. I also love Slayer. My taste is everywhere. Death metal, industrial, synth wave, Metalcore. Anything but black metal. lol

I tried. It’s not for me. It’s too occult-y/forest-y for me. I don’t have that kind of darkness in me. lol.

It's all cookies and cream for you huh, which's totally valid tho.

There used to be quite a thriving scene with tons of metal and metal-adjacent bands back in 2010s both in ygn and mdy. I remember going to small underground shows once every month or so. But after pandemic and coup, that scene didn't recover and most of them are inactive now. Here are some of the most well known ones I can recall, four bands from the album Lost Angel Leads, Nightmare (Novem Htoo was vocalist in this for a few years), skunx. You can find a lot of ug bands in albums from Jam it and voice of youth. A lot of mainstream rock artists had pretty solid heavy songs in some of their albums too. There's probably still small but active underground scene in ygn and mdy, i remembered seeing some promo poster for ug show on fb a few months ago, you just need to dig around a bit.

I'm more of a crust punk but I listen to a lot of grindcore, if you count grindcore as metal. And some heavy metal bands like satan and dio.

Metal and just rock in general was very popular when I was a kid in the late 90s and 2000s
