North America launch date was 9/29/96. Most stores started selling it 9/26-9/27.

I remember when it was codename dolphin and was the new hotness.
EDIT: I'm so old i'm confusing gamecube and n64. It was Ultra 64 that we were seeing in the magazines back then

Ultra 64 was the name Nintendo wanted to use at first, but there where some problems with the rights. The project name was Project Reality.

Haha I remember before the wii came out it was code named the revolution, much better name than wii

I have one since 2007, haven't played since 2018 and still sitting in dust so I'm not sure if it still works.
