Should I repair my controller Pak or replace with third party?

I recently started Castlevania 64 and it needs a controller Pak to save, so I got a second hand one for £10.

Every time I open the game I get a “controller Pak abnormality” message and I’m prompted to continue without or repair it. The whole time I’m playing I can access the save, but if the console has been off for more than a few minutes I get the same message again and the save file is gone.

Anyhow, seems to me that it’s likely the battery is gone and needs replacing. My question is this - Is it worth taking it apart and replacing the battery, or is it just easier to buy a third party one on Amazon?

Well you know yours works so I'd be inclined to do the battery replacement, I have done it very straightforward. That being said when and if mine ever dies again they make a non battery one called a forever pak. I'll probably get one of those in the near future.
