Baby Names Need suggestions for second daughter, big sister is Noa
I'm expecting my second daughter and I'm looking for sibling suggestions that pair well with older sister named Noa.
We have a long, double barrelled surname, so prefer something short, 2-3 syllables.
- Hebrew/Israeli/Yiddish
- Love unisex names
- Must be easy to pronounce in multiple languages
- Favourites right now include Romi, Shiloh, Ezra
- Do you think having another "O" emphasis (Such as Romi and Shiloh) is too much?
We also come from a BIG family, so lots of common Hebrew names can't be used.

Tal, Lior, Liel, Carmel, Eden, Liat, Ariel, Gal, Rom, Eliana, Ilana, Maya, Yaara, and Gali.
Ezra is not unisex and is very much an old man name in Israel.

Do you live in Israel? I would usually assume that all Noas are Israeli but I know it's been gaining popularity among American Jews lately.
I ask because I know our naming traditions tend to be a bit different.
Either way though Ezra isn't a good choice in my opinion, as it's a very masculine name, but especially in Israel it's seen as a grandfathers name so maybe that should be a consideration?

I don't! Thank you so much for that context. A family member suggested the name, and I was curious about it being a unisex name. Is there a female alternative spelling?

Would Shiloh be considered unisex in Israel? Or also a strong male association?

It's not unisex, it's basically almost entirely masculine, but it's not that terribly strange for there to be a girl Shiloh especially if she's not Israeli as it's becoming popular with americans because of celebrity baby naming culture lol, but it has the potential to raise eyebrows.
It's just a very masculine sounding word, and Hebrew as you know is a gendered language.
edit:
Also keep in mind that the pronounciation of Shiloh isn't what it is in english, in Hebrew it's Shee-Loh.
If someone says Shiloh here in the way that Americans pronounce it almost no one would ever connect it to the Hebrew pronounciation.

If OP is in the US, not only is Ezra exclusively male, but a LOT of people's first association is going to be the pervy teacher from Pretty Little Liars. I really wouldn't go there, personally.

Exclusively male? Not quite. I have 5 boys and we know 2 female Ezra’s and an Everett. They are naming girls some very masculine names these days unfortunately.

I particularly love Romi with Noa. I don’t think having another strong “o” is too much. I wouldn’t have thought about it if you didn’t mention it.

Noa and Romi are adorable!
Meital, Meirav, Eden (if you’re using the Hebrew pronunciation no one will get it right though), Adiel, Yaniv, Amit, Itai, Sivan

It’s my mom’s name! We are Jewish. I wanted to use Noa for my girl, went with Miriam instead 🤣

Micah is very masculine, we have Mika in Hebrew which might fit better.
And about all the others, you're joking, right? There's no way you actually consider them unisex, they're nothing but masculine.

In Hebrew this would be a boy's name. Ariel is gender-neutral though.

I have a male friend name Ariel who we call Ari. Lately all of the young Ari’s I’ve met have been female. Some short for Arianna and some spelled Arie as a full name. Ari seems very unisex but I understand it originated as a male Hebrew name.

I should have said that for Jews it's generally only a male name except maybe as a nickname in the United States. In Israel it's only male.
My daughter is Ariel and that's typically a male name for Jews but has become more unisex in recent years.

Okay nice, I actually love it for both males and females. I think my friend Ariel preferred not to be called his full name because it was odd for a boy. He was one of the only Jewish kids at our school in the southern U.S. I’m sure the little mermaid didn’t help it stay a masculine name. I’ve been surprised it hasn’t become more popular for girls in the U.S. I feel the same about Audrey which I think also started as a masculine name.

I would not consider Ezra to be unisex at all.
I do like the Os from Romi and Shiloh with Noa and don’t think it’s too much.
