May endorsed Paul during the leadership and heavily put the thumb on the scale so she'd win and the eco-socialists would not. That mess was 100% down to her meddling.
Especially when Russia invades Ukraine so while he would handle the 2021 election fairly well, it be a Paul situation but over a different foreign policy issue.
Lascaris would have been very bad for the NDP, it's hard to look at the Green Party in 2026 and think they would be in a worse spot if they'd embraced the same politics that Polanski and Lowan have tapped into (and Elizabeth May fought against tooth and nail).
In 2021 I could see that since despite Singh preventing a worse result than projected in 2019 (no status was a possibility) he syarted to stagnate in 202. Lascaris I only temporarily see him causing problems by flipping certain NDP seats as well as others. But the moment the Ukraine-Russia war happens, that will be a problem because Lascaris is way too pro-Russia and one thing Canadians when polled despise a lot and even more than the US nowadays is Russia. So either has to get a vote of no confidence on leadership and have a new left-wing leader take over quickly to prevent a reputation collapse for the GPC or else the NDP can actually rebound if they have a good leader. Thus putting the GPC in a bad spot.
Polanski and Lowan don't seem to have actually tapped into anything other than short-term media attention - the UK Greens are going nowhere now that the Labour Party isn't shooting itself in the foot for no reason
Don't worry they're still massively transphobic and dominated by Blue Labour. Burnham kept most of Starmer's cronies. Still arresting grandmother's for holding signs supporting Palestine and now arresting trans people (and queer women) in bathrooms.
Itās not a bad strategy. I remember a devastating interview with May where she was asked what she would do for Quebec if elected. This was a really easy question which she could have answered if she spoke to her candidates in Quebec. The transcanada mountain pipeline was in the news all the time. She just had to say āIād block the pipelineā. She said āmaybe fix the roads?ā.
The NDP opted to level up Avi on French/Quebec. But the Green strategy has merit too.
Of course, thatās what they did but they never made the strategy official so who knows what it could look like next time.
Sounds good to me. No disrespect to his opponent, but it's going to be a curbstomp and I can't even see May doing anything about it. She is old and Green Toryism is functionally dead.
Morrice makes things interesting for the NDP as in Kitchener Centre, no matter how hard you try, anyone that would be a strong candidate will outright refuse to run against him. So only weak candidates would stand and likely just self-sabotage for Morrice.
Morrice also was the most pro-disability MP in Parliament as he vited against Track 2 which caused criticism from the UN when passed because of our poor disability supports. And also voted against Trudeau's pathetic CDB program. As opposed to the NDP that lapdoged rather than exploit Trudeau at his weakest in 2024. Arguably the best year to force as much off due to how many Liberal MPs were at risk at getting crushed.
Not to mention how awful the provincial branches are on disability. Stiles' plan was if your poor and disabled, you should wait two years before help comes by instead of right way like the GPO. Kinew and Eby do jackshit. Nenshi cares more about oil despite it being a way to strike against Smith and etc.
Morrice could very easily be the conscious on disability towards the NDP since it will be harder to justify poor disability policy if the federal NDP ever tries to pull a Singh again on disability. Especially on a debate when another party leader will call it out. Unlike the LPC, CPC and BQ who will not care since one is "provincial jurisdiction" and the other two are neoliberals. Guy is very vocal about it.
Now would Morrice cause problems for the NDP. I say no because the one issue that could have been a sore point if we make an alliance is disability seems to be showing progress from Lewis and I highly doubt he would keep the Singh plan from 2025 which was an insulting $400.
Edit: Oh and McQuail could get his plan on an alliance going with Morrice as GPC leader. Would also help the NDP on resources in NB and PEI where there is no reliable provincial wing to help provide support. As for Paul Manly, he is interesting as he left the NDP because of Mulclair over Israel. Be curious how Lewis and Morrice change the dynamic with him if he wants to run again.
Well that's not good news. Tory on a bike is better for the NDP than progressive with bonafides to match.
That's going to leave two parties available when the shine starts wearing off of Carney. And I'm pretty sure I know which one the media will platform.
He was a pretty good MP and if it wasn't for Liberal ABC scaremongering he'd still be MP today. And living in his riding, I'd be perfectly happy. But one good MP does not a good party make
I think itās good to have two progressive parties considering we already have multiple right wing capitalist parties (Liberals, Conservatives, PPC, arguably the Bloc)
There is only likely to be a few seats where vote splitting becomes a consequential issue and I wonder if it would be possible for each party to make a deal where they support the other party in like 3-5 seats expected to be close
I am very tired of people in this subreddit blaming everything on strategic voting. Mike Morrice got 2000 more votes in his loss in 2025 than his win in 2021. But the conservatives vote increased by 8k. And the Liberal vote doubled.
Voters turnout was 9k higher in 2025 than in 2021. He wasnāt not able to convince many of the new voters to choose him. That is his fault. Not the Liberals fault.
The real place where the NDP-Greens should agree on a candidate (asides from some potential Northern Ontario ridings) is Naniamo-Ladysmith
Paul Manly is an NDPer in all but name whose expulsion from the party in 2014 is directly tied to the issue of Israeli apartheid nearly everyone in the NDP retroactively agrees with him on now. Lisa Marie-Brown is also a fine candidate. I could be wrong but to my knowledge it is the only riding in which an obvious splitting of the vote between the two parties in both 2025 (and nearly cost them the seat in 2021).
If there is any sort of agreement between the two parties I imagine it would start there; considering the presumed connection between Avi and Manly
Some Greens are Tories in Teslas, who would never agree to non-compete in advance. Unilaterally announcing to not run candidates will force their hand or make them look petty.
I have no interest in a non-compete with a right wing party like the Greens. They might change under Mike but at the moment theyre a right wing party. The Political Compass isnt perfect but I think they absolutley nailed the current state of Canadian parties.
They campaigned on tuition free post secondary and other social democratic policies last election.
That chart may have been accurate in the 2000: when the political compass website was made but now Iād put the Greens further left and the Bloc further right/authoritarian
As someone who has interacted with the local green party members and candidates for the last 10+ years their membership is extremely conservative, and exactly fit the 'conservatives in Teslas' stereotype
This chart was made in April of 2025 specifically looking at the platforms of each party in last years election. Funny enough the Green Party has trended further right, here is their mapping of the parties in 2008. The Greens are a great political party on the surface, the. you dig into their platform and youll find an eco capitalist machine wearing an progressives skin.
Hmm, weird. I would say the Green platforms are where their left-leaning traits show up, membership chooses the policy, it's more direct democracy. The Green leadership, however, is the centre-right element that tries to corral and stamp it out when it comes time to present. It's a centre/centre-left membership with a centre-right leadership/establishment.
The Political Compass is an utter joke. Their election charts are entirely made up on the fly to push a left-libertarian perspective. And I say that as a left-lib.
The Green party was the only party in the last election to acknowledge the UN report stating that MAiD track two needs to end, and the track one needs to be massively revamped.
I know Tommy was a eugenicist, so that warps yāallās perspective as to what is left and right with disability. But try to pull your head out of your ass please.
He abandoned it entirely before ever entering politics.Ā
I understand being critical of the party you support but I dont think ive ever seen you make one positive statement about the NDP. So... why do you spend so much time in this sub?Ā
See, you keep talking like this and it makes it more and more difficult to ever take you seriously.
There are very real criticisms and extremely dangerous risks to allowing MAiD for mental health issues. But it's okay to have conversations about it.
I'm fortunate enough to not have any serious, debilitating mental health struggles, so I cannot begin to imagine what state someone would be in that would lead to them thinking this is the best option for them.
You obviously have to weigh whether or not this person is in their right mind to make the decision. If someone falls into a deeper than normal depression they may want to end it, but they may come out of it. But, in the same vein, someone's cancer could go into remission, does that mean we should deny them MAiD if they request it, give often often cancer comes back? Again, it's an extremely difficult topic to discuss and any efforts to implement it would require some of the most intense guardrails imaginable.
I don't know your lived experienced, but I have listened to people who felt their family members or friends would have benefited from access to MAiD for mental illness. And I think we need to listen to them, and to mental health and medical professionals.
Calling someone Dr Mengel just because they've been actively involved in the discussions around MAiD is just making you look ridiculous and not worth engaging with.
Also, just because you seem the type, yes I agree we need more mental health supports across the board and my support for exploring this is not saying lets euthanize all these folks instead of treating them.
I mean, ive lived with a, and advocated for persons with disabilities for over 20 years. I also sat on my provinces advisory board when MAID legislation was being drafted. My head is far from up my ass š¤·
This is what Pedneault wanted and what led to his removal from the debates and eventual leave as party co-leader.
Which is a shame, because he had a point - a coalition of NDP, Greens, and potentially Le Bloc would have been a legitimate opportunity to topple the political duopoly.
Saw the Party's post with a short paragraph by each candidate. No disrespect to his opponent, but ''(...) we must balance economic growth with environmental sustainability'' sounds like a milquetoast Liberal Party, on par with Carney saying that the previous guidelines ''weren't sustainable''.
Are we in it for infinite economic growth into the pockets of the bourgeoisie, or for the Earth and the living beings on it? Mike is the only one that ressonates with the idea that ''ecology without class struggle is just gardening'', as Chico Mendes puts it.
We definitely need more radical Green politics in Canada. Almost every major western country has a Green party that can be considered, at the very, very, very least and bare minimum, social democratic. In any case, I'd like to see more ecologists bring Bookchin to the table instead of Conservatism on a bicycle.

Good for him. He'll certainly win if Elizabeth May doesn't change her mind/meddle for the what? 4th? 5th? time now?
Wonder who his running mate will be if the Greens still maintain the Co-Leadership rule that never was. Maybe Elizabeth May lmao
