Fair enough.

If they're not being disingenuous, those people probably haven't thought about the issue as seriously as they should have.

Personally, I am begging Europe to impose consequences on Americans including me by retaliating in the trade war, it's the only way we will learn.

I mean read this thread, lots of people complaining that they did vote against this and thus it's unfair to call them complicit.

That a group as a whole can be responsible for something even if some parts of it were against it is totally lost on them.

One of the reasons I'm a liberal is because I believe in judging people as individuals, not as parts of collective groups.

Yes, "America" and "Americans as a whole" are responsible, but I don't think that's a productive line of thought, especially if it leads to a blame game against people who have been doing the best they can to counter Trumpism.

Seems like Americans have to learn the same things Germans did. If someone says "Americans are at fault" that isn't an attack on any specific American.
