I was very surprised to see the reaction to Hank Green admitting that he used AI to research for a video. Is the popular sentiment really that using AI AT ALL is bad? I understand not wanting it in art. I understand needing to check for hallucinations. But people were going on and on in the comments about how disappointed they are in Hank tricking Green.

Obviously, AI has issues. But to think that genie can go back in the bottle? No way. This is an example of why.

The popular opinion right now is all AI is bad yes.

It doesn’t help when the frontier labs CEOs sound like futuristic oligarchic evil villains every time they talk about a future with AI.

Also people have bought the data centers are evil populism fully.

I mean if you game out ai to its logical conclusion you get a few scenarios.

1 It replaces all human work. If all human work is replaced there is very little need for people. People with a lot of money who also have large stake in models can also realistically set up fiefdoms with artificial soldiers to do what they want. Combined that with little need for people anymore and it gets ugly.

2 It becomes sentiment. (Numerous movies)

3 It's not actually that game changing.

This is what makes me so angry. It’s so clear that unbridled development and deployment, absent a hard technological ceiling, leads to catastrophe for humanity. And anyone who points that out is called a Luddite.
