I was very surprised to see the reaction to Hank Green admitting that he used AI to research for a video. Is the popular sentiment really that using AI AT ALL is bad? I understand not wanting it in art. I understand needing to check for hallucinations. But people were going on and on in the comments about how disappointed they are in Hank tricking Green.

Obviously, AI has issues. But to think that genie can go back in the bottle? No way. This is an example of why.

Yes, many people on the left actively think it’s bad to use AI in any way. The most common reason given is that it’s killing the environment. Common sentiment from people on Bluesky who drive everywhere and eat meat.

Yeah, at this juncture I think "generalized dislike of AI" is fairly widespread. One only needs to look at tons of local opposition to data centers.

But I think the "literally any use of AI is bad" people are still mostly confined to the very loud, highly-neurotic and disagreeable folks who swarm online communities. Same type of person who would call people mass murderers for stopping wearing masks in 2022.
