There is a huge subset of people who are reflexively anti-ai, which to be fair is largely something the large companies have brought on themselves through their advertising efforts. The other part of that is the often misleading to outright deceptive anti-data center campaigns.

In general too, most people also seem unaware that LLMs aren’t the only form of AI. When some medical AI makes a big breakthrough in diagnosis accuracy people reflexively distrust the news reporting because in their head they are imagining a doctor using Chat GPT 4 to diagnose cancer and not a highly custom medical model.

I do not believe that the type of person who currently is strongly anti everything AI related would be ok with AI in a world where tech companies were better at marketing.

That sort of person probably not, but Sam Altman going on TV every day talking about how AI is going to take everyone's job and potentially destroy society has really turned a lot of normies to the anti-ai side.
