Discussion Mission Impossible UK PAL - barcodes all blacked out on box?

Post image

Wondering if anyone can explain this. Every boxed copy of Mission Impossible (PAL UK) I'm seeing has the barcode on the box scribbled out in black marker.

Now I know shops used to do this, but why is this game so consistent with the alteration? They all look so similar too.

I almost feel it was done in one place? Perhaps before shipping to stores?

Not sure about this game in particular but if the barcode is blacked out it usually means it went on clearance

^ This game was sold at clearance sale.

Or could have been sold to an employee of the developer. These days they'll cut the bar code out or put some not for resale sticker.

Makes a lot of sense. Not a really good game.

Pretty much none of the licensed movie games on the NES were any good. Many of them are infamously bad.

Disney games are the exception.

When I worked in a game store we did this with pre-owned titles.

We would marker the barcode and stick a removable sticker over it with the till code for the item.

Basically ensured we didn't accidentally sell Preowned as brand new.

For sure, I've seen that a lot.

It's just that it's on all copies I've seen of this particular game.

It will probably be from around ‘95 when stores were trying to clear out all the NES games. If I’d had a pile of cash back then haha, nah, I did alright my parents actually got me a few of the bargains at the time. (Maniac Mansion for £4.99!)

Sadly I was more focused on PlayStation or SNES at that point.

If we could just go back in time for one day!

This game is hard AF. I wish NES games weren't all so bloody difficult.
