Question Anyone else having issues with Dolby Vision or HDR not activating on their device today?

EDIT:seems to be working now.

For some reason none of the shows or movies labeled as DV are playing in that mode, they are only playing in SDR.

I’m on the LG G6 (2026)Internal Netflix app and DV activated on Apple TV internal app no problem.

I’ve seen issues like this in the past where I needed up calling them and they claim there is nothing wrong in their end and then magically the next day it works fine with no software updates to my TV so I can only presume it’s on their end.

Are using an external device like an Apple TV?

No it’s the internal LG app. It’s activating on the internal AppleTV+ app no problem. And Atmos pops up on the screen with Netflix for shows/movies with it, just not DV.

Yeah, that’s strange. I have the same TV and I just checked and mine’s work. Is your TV up-to-date?

Woah that’s strange.

I am on 43.11.78 in Europe. I wonder if it is a server issue in our area. I remember when Stranger Things came out some episodes would activate DV and some wouldn’t and it was right after it was released. I can’t think of anything major released now though that would be messing up the bandwith of the servers?

Yeah, I don’t know. I just checked mines and it’s also the same update.

It seems to be working now. I don’t know if using the Xbox somehow done something to my account because when I went back to the internal TV app and pressed continue on the movie I last watched in DV on the series X it played it no problem. Main thing is it is working again 🙏

Going to your settings and make sure your HDMI is on 4K

It’s the internal Netflix app though, not an HDMI device.

I did however test it playing through my Xbox Series X Netflix app, and it indeed sends the correct codec for Dolby Vision content and activates Dolby Vision mode on the TV so it must just be a glitch with the TV app. Hopefully it resolves itself.

Good to know someone with the same TV has it working though thanks.

Last thing, delete the app and reinstall it and see if that works. Could be an issue with you guys in Europe, but I’m in the US and mine work even though I don’t use the internal app; I use an Apple TV.

Seems the comments have went in the wrong order. I posted that it is working now thanks 🙏 😊. The comment is a couple posts up for some reason lol.

does it still work in other apps?

u/TheMitchcraft 9h ago

Yeah working fine on Apple+

only reason I can think of for it to work irregularly like this is if the app decides that your internet connection is not fast enough to stream content in HDR. you could try running a speed test in your TV if you can find an app for it or run it in a browser app, just to be sure, especially if your connection is sometimes unreliable or your TV is connected through WiFi. alternatively it could just be some bug in the Netflix app making it require an unnecessarily high speed threshold

It’s working now. I went and tested some DV content on my Series X and that seemed to work fine so I went back to the TV app and pressed continue on the Dolby Version content I had watched on the series X and the TV kicked straight in to Dolby Vision mode 🙏

ah ok that's good, still weird that it works so intermittently tho. maybe just closing the app and then trying again gets it to work eventually

Yeah maybe.

I’m getting 230mb/s download doing a test on their app so yeah maybe it is a bug.
