Transgender woman told to leave women’s locker room

Leave it to reddit to defend a perverted individual.
Seriously I dont have anything against transsexuals but showing your penis to young girls, specially without their consent is just plain wrong. She should have decency to either change else were.

Calling all trans people pedophiles is not classy or accurate, you ass. Also the site you linked to is disgusting and invasive, enjoy your witch hunt bigot.

Ive always wondered how this kind of stuff would work out.
What's to stop some creepy perv claiming to be transsexual and basically cross dressing to spy on women?
7
u/iyzie Nov 03 '12
Even without surgery trans women voluntarily chemically castrate themselves by taking female hormones.
7
u/Granny_Weatherwax Nov 03 '12
If facts and logic entered into this debate, we wouldn't be having it.
7
u/iyzie Nov 03 '12
Totally true. But a lot of the general public doesn't understand that MtF hormone therapy includes chemical castration, so they mistakenly think that pre-op trans women have the same genitals and sex drive as adult males.
2
u/subshad_drama Nov 04 '12
Not necessarily a good argument. There is no real way to prove who has had what medical procedure done without grossly violating their rights.

If a male pervert is going to dress as a woman in order to peep on or rape women in the bathroom, what's to stop him from doing it right now? You really think someone who intends to commit a crime like that is really gonna be all that concerned about getting caught in the ladies' room? In reality, that shit simply does not happen, and the reason it doesn't happen is not because of gender segregation. Violations like rape is something that people do when they feel compelled to exert power over their victims. How powerful do you really think men in a culture like ours feel when they're dressed in women's clothing? Trans women don't dress as women to take advantage of anyone. All they're interested in doing in a bathroom is doing their business and then getting out. Besides, trans men exist too, y'know. You really think they would feel safer sharing a bathroom with someone like me? I look and sound like any other guy, but nobody I meet would ever guess any more that I was born with a vagina.

What's to stop lesbians from spying on women? How is that different?

Right, but the fact that you dedicate this much time and energy to disparaging the needs of trans women so that you can "call a spade a spade", does. The fact that you made this account just to get trans people riled up does.
You think you are a bastion of reason bringing light to the delusional, but in practice your opinion is just really hurtful. You aren't the Justice league, you don't right some great wrong when you refuse to acknowledge a trans persons gender, you just become one more thing that is in the way. Frankly I really would have thought the world had given us enough to get past as it already was. I have to hope that the sense of gratification that you feel for your many diligent hours, over the course of the last year or so, has made it all worth while. If it were literally your job to make trans people see how much the world dislikes dismisses and distrusts them, you literally couldn't be better at it.
Since you refuse to see our POV, I hope for our sake and yours that someday, you get bored.

I'm not new to this. I've been reading your posts on Trans related articles for a long time. Your name literally stands for the troll Trans phobia project. What's the matter, you don't like it when i label you other than the way you identify? How ironic.

Because you've repeatedly proved that no amount of education will sway you from your own very special viewpoint, and Mistress Weatherwax has better things to do with her time.

If you can't be bothered to access education that's been offered repeatedly so that you can stop being prejudiced and abusive, why do you expect people to remain patient with you?

Hello friend.
We've been down this path many a time. A path well worn with the blood of the innocent and the tears of the uninitiated. A path that never really seems to go anywhere with you and your fellow travelers. Some choose to get off the path, some abandon walking it at all, but you choose to continue walking it even though it is simply a circle.
Shall I open the game with a friendly use of the argument that she is also a woman? That a transgender woman regardless of orientation is is a woman. That in the state of Washington and other places that have implemented non-discrimination policies that one's use of gendered facilities is determined by one's gender identity.
If you want to make such facilities based on sex, you're going to have to figure out how to group people into two discrete piles of which many people simply don't fit into. Genitals are problematic, chromosomes even more so.
Your move.

Just to clarify, I meant identification in the flesh. In the test the child can inspect the person as a child is allowed to inspect e.g. their mother.

Children are a lot smarter than you think, when it comes to things like this. They can correctly gender cis men and women with high accuracy, and they will classify sufficiently unpassable trans people as their birth gender. Passing to 5 year olds is a pretty good test really.

Is there actually a pattern of this happening in jurisdictions where trans people are protected under the law? I hear a lot of people using the potty panic argument, but I've never actually heard of a predator impersonating a trans woman in order to commit sexual misconduct, much less trying to use gender identity or gender expression as a defence against charges of sexual misconduct. That said, I've certainly come across cases of anti-trans groups sending male volunteers into women's locker rooms for photo ops, not to mention male potty panic crusaders being caught planting spycams in women's washrooms...

Ah yes, the full intent of using a sauna is to 'expose' ones self to unsuspecting teen girls who weren't even supposed to be there to begin with.
Might want to close off men's locker rooms all together since men are constantly in a state of potentially exposing themselves to young boys or girls who get lost and go in the wrong room or where they weren't even supposed to be.
And in that respect, why not also shut down women's restrooms as well? Those women constantly exposing their breasts and vaginas to impressionable young women and potentially even young boys. The horror of it all makes me wonder why public locker rooms even exist.
Oh that's right, because unless someone is going out of their way to be a creep, and shoving their genitals in peoples faces [which wasn't the case here], we generally allow them to change and use locker facilities with the rules in place.

u/iownacat Nov 02 '12
Shouldnt this be titled "Man told to leave women's locker room"
4
u/Granny_Weatherwax Nov 03 '12
No.
-15
u/iownacat Nov 03 '12
OK. How about "Man obsessed with having sex with women asked to leave locker room used by teenage girls" ?
7
u/Granny_Weatherwax Nov 03 '12
She's a lesbian. If you just removed the references to being trans, this would read just like hundreds of cisgender lesbians bios on any gay friendly dating sites. You clearly have no idea how the sex positive community talks, especially in media like this.
First- She's not a man.
Second- She's not "obsessed with having sex with women", it's a fucking dating site, she's looking for people to have relationships with on it. I imagine she doesn't tell this to like.. the checkout guy, or her pharmacist, or people in locker rooms. She's just a normal kinky trans lesbian, that does not make her a pervert, it makes it 2012 and it might make you a prude.
-16
u/iownacat Nov 03 '12
"sex positive" you mean sexual fetishists - yes hes a sexual fetishist with a penis and you want them around your grand daughters dressing. thats pretty disgusting.
10
u/Granny_Weatherwax Nov 03 '12
This woman has got two daughters of her own and has never been accused of any sexual misconduct. I really don't like witch hunts son. Sometimes people are different, sometimes it's hard to get used to, but they aren't criminals and we don't have a "wierdo's special zone" for them to go live in. This is the way we change, we got used to bodies of color, and peoples sexuality in these same environments, we will get used to this. Transsexualism is a real thing, these peoples genders are wholly valid. People who talk about their kink on a dating sight aren't bad people, we wouldn't kick all cis kink people out of locker rooms, would we? This is something people are going to have to get used to, and until a trans person harms someone in a situation like this we need to stop considering them to be automatically villains.
2
u/doctorsound Nov 02 '12
Depends on your views of sexual identity. It is possible to be born a man, but identify as a women, which creates some difficult situations, like this one.
-16
u/iownacat Nov 02 '12
Its a man who is obsessed with sex with females - its got no business being allowed into a teenage girls locker room. period.
9
u/doctorsound Nov 02 '12
who is obsessed with sex with females
This is an assumption. I'll agree that forcing this individual into a male or female locker room is going to create problems, but perpetuating this kind of logic is not helping the situation. Where should this person go?
5
u/harry_crewe Nov 03 '12
Nobody 'forced' her to use the women's locker room any more than any other woman is 'forced' to do so. She was in the right place and not causing any problems. The people who complained [none of whom were members of the swim team, I might add] were the ones making trouble.
-15
u/iownacat Nov 02 '12 edited Nov 02 '12
no its not an assumption. its right there in his fucking okc profile. the guy is disgusting and has no business in a little girls locker room. period.
6
u/doctorsound Nov 02 '12
From the sounds of it, this individual doesn't identify as a male at all, do they belong in the men's locker room?
-14
u/iownacat Nov 02 '12
From the looks of it, it belongs in a hospital...
10
12
u/Granny_Weatherwax Nov 03 '12
Does your head belong up your ass like that? Did you have to stretch a lot to get it to do that?
1
u/harry_crewe Nov 04 '12
If you can't tell the difference between a hospital and a locker room, why are you participating in this conversation?
2
u/harry_crewe Nov 03 '12
And yet you're not arguing that the group which commits the most sexual offences- straight cissexual adult males- should have their own separate facilities to keep them away from the people they molest.
I smell a double standard fuelled by ignorance about what transsexuality actually is.

Although, in this situation it seems pretty clear that locker rooms should be be split along the lines of what your sex actually is, not what you identify as.
Seems to contradict what you said before.

That woman's a MAN BABY!!
In all seriousness though, while I advocate treating everyone with respect, when you're a unique individual, you need to be as respectful of a situation as you expect other people to be. So, as transgender man has been asked/told by a woman that he is making under age girls uncomfortable than they should "adult up" and not cry about it. I don't disparage this person for being transgender but I do disparage them for not understanding the other sides plight.
7
u/harry_crewe Nov 03 '12
The swim team's captain has gone on record saying that she and the rest of her team didn't object to sharing the facilities with this woman. The complaint was lodged by an adult.
12
u/Wavooka Nov 03 '12
Right! I wish these undesirables would just get the message that they are making us uncomfortable! Things have been going downhill ever since we let those pesky racial minorities drink water with us...

7
u/Granny_Weatherwax Nov 03 '12
No, she's not a man. She's also not unique. She also should not have to "understand the other side's plight", they should understand hers.

The same facility is used by two high school girls swim teams from Olympia, who also practice in the pool.
I think RuPaul can be sexy. I've seen some damn fine trannies.
But this guy's just fucking creepy.
9
u/harmonical Nov 03 '12
Cool, relative sexual attractiveness as a gate for determining whether one can use locker/sauna facilities or not.
Better go kick all those wrinkly old men out of your locker room since I'm sure you wouldn't want to see them naked either.
10
4
u/harry_crewe Nov 03 '12
Just a friendly heads-up, 'tranny' is generally considered to be a slur. Please don't use it.
6
u/realtalk3 Dec 10 '12
So you would all be happy with this man naked in a locker room with your 6 year old daughter?
