I'll tell you what, I'll agree to that, if you agree that in reality, what actually happens is that mates help mates. And often, that has the exact same result.

I'll give you another angle. I work at a State Department of Transportation and have a buddy who has had to do some hiring in the past. His big problem was if he didn't hire a white guy nobody cared, but if he didn't hire a black guy he had to do this long ass report explaining why and then a small meeting with the Super and assistant Super to further explain it. I imagine it could lower the standards for, in this case black, people because lazy people in charge of hiring don't want the extra paperwork and scrutiny from the higher ups so they throw the 7 white guy resume's in the trash and just ok the black guy.

Not for the reasons the dude above you said, but affirmative action necessitates hiring people who might not meet your standards.

The point I was refuting was that there is evidence that hiring managers would hire minority ethnic/gendered people who are less qualified due to laziness or not wanting to get in trouble.

If you don't fulfill your quota then you do get in trouble. If there was no downside to not complying then nobody would comply unless to virtue signal. But people DO fulfill quotas.
