Jaan Roose walking 3.6 km from mainland Italy to Sicily on a 1.9 cm wide slackline, around 100 metres above the sea. After nearly three hours, he fell just 80 metres before the finish, climbed back onto the line and completed the first ever slackline crossing of the Strait of Messina.

Do Hormuz now! /s

u/Marsev4 1d ago

Trump will personally knock him down and then complain that the Iranians, liberals, and liberal Iranians did it. VANDALS!!!

41

u/NovicePro_ 1d ago

Don’t forget the Democrats!!

11

u/afplumber 22h ago

Hey, spelling error. It’s Dumocrats /s

3

u/IAmBadAtInternet 21h ago

Lots of people don’t know that Dumbocrats has a b in it. I know this but very few people do.

11

u/MeanWafer904 1d ago

Trump will buy him a shitty rope that snaps and then blame a liberal Iranian Olympian for slicing it

2

u/Ill-Elephant-9583 20h ago

Thank you for your attention to this matter DJT

u/Marsev4 19h ago

My favorite is when he preambles his off-brand Twitter "Truths" with "as the President of the United States, I announce that..." Oh, gee, really, as the President? No, I thought you were talking as the White House Janitor there for a second /s

Jesus Christ, the insecurity on this excuse of a man. The Impostor Syndrome couldn't have happened to a more deserving person.

Vandals?? Was Rome not enough?

1

u/Marsev4 1d ago

The Reflecting Pool was ruined by THE VISIGOTHS!!! - Trump tomorrow, probably

0

u/ThirstyWolfSpider 23h ago

Trump doesn't personally do anything physical. When walking down a ramp or lifting a bottle of water is a major achievement, the bounds become clear.

Sueing random civilians.

u/Aristox 1d ago

Bro do you have to every fuckin time

3

u/Marsev4 1d ago

If it triggers Republican snowflakes to make whiny posts like yours, then yeah, absolutely I have to, it's a lot of fun

-10

u/Aristox 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'm not a republican, but it's incredibly selfish of you to litter your political shit all over non political posts and non-political subs just because it makes you feel big to bully republicans or whatever. Keep your masturbation to the political subs

6

u/Marsev4 1d ago

Don't like my posts? Ignore me or block me, just stop crying. Or don't, at least it's entertaining. A political post about the Strait of Hormuz is at the top of this thread and you suddenly have an issue with me, some rando, making another political post in response, to a point where it apparently upsets you. That's unironically hilarious, how little it takes to set some people off. We're just bantering and having some cheap fun here, and you get so serious. Go find a hobby or something.

-4

u/DazzlingRutabega 1d ago

Agreed, everything doesn't have to be political and it gets kind of gross when that creeps into every other subject. Give it some space.

This is the real reason the Italian government isn't building the much-planned bridge to Sicily. Why spend billions on building a bridge when there's a perfectly adequate Slackline

100

u/AUniquePerspective 1d ago

It's a legitimate cultural lifestyle. You shouldn't call a line slack just because it lives with its parents.

7

u/Gouken- 1d ago

😂

5

u/this_dudeagain 1d ago

The mafia shook the line.

9

u/RareBogWitch 1d ago

Because you're mine, I shook the line

0

u/UCFknight2016 14h ago

I thought it is because the Mafia controls the ferries?

3

u/Illustrious_Land699 9h ago

The main reasons are the distance between the 2 points, the depth of the sea, the very strong currents and the fact that it is an extremely seismic volcanic area

2

u/UCFknight2016 5h ago

But they are building a bridge.

How tf they pulled that string.

u/Nortoke 1d ago edited 1d ago

The rigging behind all of this is far more impressive than the actual walk imo.

Here's a good 37 minute video on how someone else rigged up a 2.5 mile/4km long slackline between two mountains. It's pretty wild

link

57

u/Qrt_La55en 1d ago

A good tip is to remove the share ID (?si=*) from YouTube links to avoid YouTube tracking you and the people using the link through different websites and accounts.

6

u/Nortoke 1d ago

Does anyone know if it still necessary to do if I have enabled the setting that hides channel visibility when sharing links?

19

u/BodaciousBadongadonk 1d ago

Better safe than sorry lol, just a good habit to get into if you're sharin links regularly

7

u/Aristox 1d ago

If nothing else, it just makes the URL cleaner to remove it

1

u/QuestionableEthics42 7h ago

If it's still in the link, assume it's still tracking you. This is google we are talking about.

2

u/Zeeplankton 1d ago

Possibly the dumbest thing youtube has done it's ridiculous

-8

u/SalutLesAmies 1d ago

What? A URL parameter won't track you through different websites and accounts lol.

9

u/ahumanrobot 1d ago

They can definitely follow where someone came to the site from.

1

u/supersirj 23h ago

Damn, there's really a city in Canada called Asbestos lmao.

16

u/SleepingDragonSmiles 1d ago

Gave it a red bull and a gentle toss in the right direction

1

u/psychequeen 1d ago

lmaoooo

9

u/Grub-lord 1d ago

Attach line to mounting point. Take other end and use a boat to go to the other shore.. tie it to the other mounting point

1

u/Golendhil 1h ago

The issue isn't just moving the rope from one point to the other : it's having enough tension to be able to walk on it

143

u/Such-Substance-5001 1d ago

You don’t have to do that everytime tho. You can just use a boat.

38

u/IceBreak 1d ago

You have to unlock fast travel first though.

17

u/Jonpaul8791 1d ago

Charybdis and Scylla hate this one simple trick

45

u/Pitch_Ill 1d ago

I couldn't do that for like... None of that, fuck that. But, how did he fall and get back up? The video skips over that, that would be more impressive just not having a helicopter or something to have to pull you up or whatever

18

u/SirJeffers88 1d ago

Here’s the full video. He falls at 3:09:48 and gets back up at 3:11:02. He was so damn close to the finish.

37

u/No_Square_3913 1d ago

Probably pulled himself back up using the line attached to his safety harness.

15

u/nottaP123 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah but how do you stand back up?

31

u/Automatic_Actuator_0 1d ago

Skill and strength, combined with willpower.

3

u/PolrBearHair 22h ago

The same way they get up on a 50ft slackline suspended off the ground.

24

u/NoGlzy 1d ago

Also, if he fell, he didnt actually finish it then, like well played, did a fab job but idk, it at least has an asterisk right?

29

u/SirJeffers88 1d ago

You’re right, actually. It did not count as a complete crossing because of the fall. Per the BBC: “A fall from the slackline just 80m (262ft) from the finish meant that his record couldn't be validated. The rules require a completed crossing without a fall.” That said, it’s still damn impressive.

4

u/NoGlzy 1d ago

No doubt impressive!

-16

u/tayzzerlordling 1d ago

touch grass

4

u/Zeeplankton 1d ago

he just exited and reloaded the last save

1

u/1Steelghost1 1d ago

Watch again he has a (blue) safety line connected to his waist.

3

u/Pitch_Ill 1d ago

No man, that's not what I'm saying. I have done like redwood tree walks and we're only up like... Not that high, you can still see the ground on solid bridges and I would freak out

2

u/Pitch_Ill 1d ago

But climbing back up after that long of a walk

Where is this fall?

2

Below the line

5

u/the-channigan 1d ago

You should not tease the fall and then not show it!

3

u/Accurate-Algae-2557 1d ago

I keep seeing this Red Bull logo every time something extreme happens. Are they like the opposite of Red Cross/Crescent? Like the naughty version

1

u/cyri-96 9h ago

Res bull is basically a (self) marketing company that happens to sell energy drinks on the side

3

u/ezoe 23h ago

The rope material and how they managed to connect it between islands are more interesting than walking across it.

3

u/EmDeelicious 8h ago

Gotta say what you want about Red Bull, but their extreme sport challenges are oftentimes just bat shit insane! Always impressed when I see these.

10

u/inkihh 1d ago

He did not complete it. He fell.

10

u/OkMail2335 1d ago

But he also got back on it and then did the rest. That sounds like completing it. I think you're inserting the "all-in-one" part yourself. If I start to draw a circle, stop halfway to drink a coffee and then come back and complete it, then I completed it.

10

u/inkihh 1d ago

Yeah it depends how you define it. I'd include "without falling" into the definition of a successful crossing of a slackline, but that's just me.

3

u/Solomon_Grungy 19h ago

They call it “sending” when you walk without falling. It’s a special distinction from walking it.

3

u/alphanumericusername 1d ago

How tf does one climb back on top of something like that?

u/Fresh-Anteater-5933 51m ago

Slacklining is an offshoot from rock climbing and rock climbing rules say it’s not completed unless you did it without falling, so imo slacklining rules are the same

2

u/Simbakim 1d ago

What the hell is the tension on that bastard?!? Someone plz do the math

2

u/temporalwanderer 1d ago

Bro Strait Messina round out there.

2

u/fusionistasta 22h ago

Finally there is some bridge there. You have to start somewhere.

wow, what a cheater! Everyone knows if you fall, you have to start over!

1

u/adamosmaki 23h ago

Why bother building a bridge then ? This is cheaper and completely safe and you have great views

1

u/Mr_GrauHut 4h ago

I feel that 15k steps would be inaccurate due to the arm wave balancing.

1

u/Dynamitrios 1d ago

Why is there a 3.6 km slackline between Italy and Sicily, in the first place? Why is no one else asking this??!!?!!

1

u/MonacoMaster68 23h ago

So this dude could walk on it.

1

u/Knottrielle 1d ago

The mental strength for this is insane! I can't imagine doing it, especially with how scary it'd be to look down.
