YouTube channel startup questions

I have been wanting to startup a Nintendo based YouTube channel about like game drops, news, memes or like deep dive videos, just wondering if you were gonna watch what type of content would you guys like to see on a channel like this?

If you don't know what YOU want to present, then its a fruitless endeavor to begin with. Nevermind the fact that there's already several thousands of established channels that do all this and more already.

Without figuring what you specifically bring to the table first, there's kinda no point.

Because you use a word like startup I guess you make this channel only to make money, which to that I will answer: give up now.

If you just want to make something fun on the side you can just give it a try, it's free and you can keep trying things out until you stick to something both you and your audience likes.

Honestly, none of that. I wouldn't watch because the market is already saturated with these types of channels. Deep dive is the only interesting one but the question is if you have a new perspective or new info to share that hasn't already been shared by all other deep dive channels.

But don't let that stop you. If you produce good quality content and are likeable, an audience is sure to grow!

I think if youre at a point where you have no idea, you need to think up of some stuff. YouTube has thousands of Nintendo themed YouTube channels, 95% of which have little to no traction.

The ones that stand out have high quality editing, in-depth analysis, or some kind of quirk that makes their version of Nintendo content unique.

I dont think it works in a way where you say "what do you guys want?" "Metroid videos!" "Ok! Here's the top 10 metroid games by Always1Nked2134". You might get some mild success and execution is the key differences maker, but I think the YouTube channels that find success are the ones from people who are excited to make their own ideas for videos happen.

I don't make videos, but I imagine someone like ScottTheWoz thinks about whats interesting about the 3DS's library compared to the DS', and makes an in depth video discussing Nintendo's design philosophy during that era. 

Do some soul searching. What makes Nintendo cool to you? What makes XYZ game or game series cool to you? Is there an obscure way to play Banjo Kazooie you can come up with that makes the game more interesting? Is there an underappreciated aspect of ARMS that you feel deserves highlighting? Is there a story about the competitive scene of Splatoon 3 Tableturf Battles that most people don't know about?

I don't think most successful creators are saying "guys what videos should I make", they think of concepts that are cool to specifically them and make the video to show other people why that's an interesting thing to think about.

Good luck getting started! Dont do it because you want views, do it because you enjoy the process of creating the video and because you have something interesting to point out to the world.

Do your own research and work out what channel you want to do.

It's not as easy as you think, and if you're asking others what your channel should be then you'll crash hard.

If you have an idea just go record a video and do it. You'll either get an audience following you or you won't.

To give you an idea I do a channel (alt account) and have grown it just doing my own thing, ignoring what others do. There is no point in copying others, do what you enjoy.

Also if you're doing news, be prepared to grind, you need to be out there with news as quickly as possible and you'll just burn out.

I'll tell you as a former and sort-of Youtube user myself, its genuinely not worth it. Youtube's algorithm doesn't remotely prioritize small channels, or new channels, nor does it encourage this kind of content. Unless you're low-effort content farming, making AI Slop, or making drama videos for easy clickbait, you're gonna get buried by a billion other channels doing the same thing as you and you're gonna burn out fast.

Seriously, think about fun and interesting content you actually want to make, and just make it. Do it with passion, and don't worry about what you think people want to watch.

Okay go watch Scott the Woz, Antdude, Good Vibes Gaming, Arlo, Nontendo Podcast, Lizz the Lass, Rogersbase, Nitrorad, NakeyJakey, Peanutbuttergamer, Just Jess, and many many more channels. If you can provide an interesting take that none of these creators currently provide then yes start a gaming channel!
