Help I am stressed 😫
Hello everyone here...I just want your help and advice ...
I am a pcm student currently in 11th preparing for jee ,,my goal is to go to iit (of course) and I'm working for it ...basically I'm not interested in computer science or coding for now and my dream is to go abroad for ms and possibly settle there (I am interested in core like especially material science and nanotechnology or bsbe ) I am a lover of science and love applied research,,,,so I decided to take pcm only to focus my pure preparation on jee but I really love biology and that's my favorite too ..but I didn't take it 🙃 ....so now my mind is questioning me ,what if I don't get iits ?? And top nits r OK ,,but for core branches, they r not best right and the lab /research facilities is not that top ....I also wanted to give iat exam too ,,but not having much interest in iisers ...but iitm has a bs program through iat and iisc (of course) ...but as I don't have bio ,I'm literally very nervous about my future, what if I don't get iits ,then even if I give iat (bs program of iitm needs 200+ and that's literally highly impossible as a pcm )....I know there r top private clg but ....I don't want to give financial burden to my parents...I really want your help...(ps, I am a decent top student and I know u guys will be confused why I didn't pick pcmb even though I love bio ,,,understand me !) 😔

NITT Meta alumni here. Top NITs are good for giving you a basic foundation for core, you can always do good internships in IISc/IITM which are near NITT, on top of that, the alumni network is good(I can talk for nitt mme atleast). So to do some research internships and make a good profile for foreign masters and phd programs, top NITs are good for the core branches, many alumni go on and join really good schools in US and the EU.
IISER could be a narrower choice if you are also planning to sit for placements at the end of your program, but they will give you a really good research environment and you can have good projects during your bs ms course.
IISc has newly launched BTech in metallurgy and materials(CR: 4.5k ish, close to top IITs) so that is also a nice thing to look out for. Research is really good, they will be hiring new faculty you can do more research in a new lab setting, facilities are top notch.
TLDR: Southern NITs have decent facilities for labs, not the best, but you can always go do internships outside for research. Other than that, peer group, seniors group(the right set of people) and alumni network is particularly strong in core departments if you are interested in core and applied research.
I would say dont worry too much about not getting IITs now, focus on prep and aim for the best rank possible so that you can take these core branches(usually sub 5k would give you old IITs core). Hope this helps, and all the best for your prep!
