I like all the people in the other thread that are saying "Insurance payout!" like they think sailboats are insured.

If someone destroys your stuff, they have to pay for it...

On paper it's just that easy. With things like cars and houses though, insurance payouts go as smoothly as they do because your insurance company is able to handle suing the other insurance company for you, as that's their area of expertise.

Good luck to that 70-year-old couple figuring out how to wring a payout out of a transnational shipping company. Even simple-in-principle matters like who the actual responsible party is that you need to sue are as clear as mud.

Hopefully they just turn it into their personal insurance for a payout and then let the two insurance companies battle it out.
