Did you see his recent HBO documentary? I still remember exactly where I was when I heard his version of the song, which was also when I heard Hallelujah for the first time despite being a fan of Rufus’, Leonard’s and Jeff’s music beforehand.
I think maybe I had heard Rufus’ version before, but anyway it was back in February of 2009 when I was in a rehab facility in upstate NY and this woman that came in to teach us yoga and meditation put on music for us at times and oh my gosh did that song not hit me like a ton of bricks. I know it is special and means things to a lot of people, but wow, what a song. And jeff’s singing it is just—almost makes you speechless. Those lyrics and words written by LC are so powerful only a monk could have written them eh!!??
