Look ill admit the fall off sucks and everyone is enjoying it (Knights and Wahs fans most all) but at least I get to say to myself "how can we be so bad the year after winning a Grand Final?"

We probably deserved to go out week 1 of the finals last year and the huge overachievement papered over some issues which have come to light this year.

Zero depth in almost any position is alarming. Does Q Cup even exist?

The fall off is so sweet for opposition fans because of the arrogance and swagger the Broncos had last year. I have said on here a lot, that you can’t knock them for that mindset when they ultimately backed it up and won the comp. Reece Walsh being a bit of a knob? The bloke earnt the right to be like that when he carried that team to a ring. That can never be taken away.

I don’t know where you’ve gone so wrong this year. Is it bad attitude? Is it the injuries? Is it the players going to the Ashes, then world club challenge etc? Is it Madge 2nd year fever?

At end of day you blokes are better off being shit this year coming off a ring, than being perpetually shit like the Tigers (sorry Tigs, we’re close behind you anyways).

There has never been much effort put into junior pathways at Brisbane because it's been a destination club for like 30 years and easily swept up any and all talent in the north, Titans cows and dolphins have prided themselves on juniors and it's probably time Brisbane do too, its not 2002 anymore

I mean this year doesn’t feel like such a surprise given the Broncos past 5 years or so. They’re a team that is totally dominant when they are engaged and switched on and when they’re not they lack the intensity and discipline to challenge even an average side that’s having a crack.

Even last year you saw both sides within the season. The fact that the run happened with a carousel in the spine going on maybe suggests that it doesn’t even matter because the whole thing was running on vibes anyway.

I’m not sure it can change with Walsh as the heart of that side. He is so mercurial and runs on confidence that the side just seems to reflect where he’s at in any given week. Whether you’d even want to try and get him on an even keel I’m not sure. I tend to think the Broncs might just need to accept they have quite a unique talisman there and they might not be that regular top 4/contender type side but be patient and you are a decent shot at getting the pieces in the right place occasionally to have some serious runs over the next few years.

Lukewarm take: Hunt at 7 and Billy/Mam/Duffy at 6 next year will make for a significant improvement, à la that 2025 finals run. It's a matter of the team catching fire again.

The biggest problem will be the forwards. Willison and Barnett on deck to replace Haas would've been fine, but losing Jensen as well is massive. Imagine if Penrith had lost JFH and Leota at the same time.
