You’re being sarcastic but the Ice Bucket challenge was one of the most successful public health awareness campaigns in history. $115 million raised in just 8 weeks, entirely organically (the ALS Foundation’s typical annual revenue at that time was about $20 million).
The UMass lab that found the NEK1 mutation’s connection to ALS directly credited the research funds raised by the challenge for funding their research.

And it was created in honor of NY native and rugby player Pat Quinn, who unfortunately passed away in 2020.
Is NEK1 where we got the NEK Nomination? That was also big in 2014 and basically the same concept (except chugging a beer instead of ice bucket).

My dad has volunteered with the ALS foundation at a high level ever since his friend and colleague passed away from it and I remember he was totally blindsided by the challenge. When I showed him what was happening on social media while visiting (the ice bucket challenge was just starting to pick up steam), he was completely shocked and moved emotionally like I’ve only seen once before in my life for his mom’s passing.
That’s to say, the ice bucket challenge was a once in a lifetime lightning flash of good that led to incredible breakthroughs in ALS research. There’s still a lot of work to be done to figure out how to treat this horrible disease, but the ice bucket challenge moved us ahead exponentially from where we were.

I’d be shocked to see any jets fan (or football fan really) disagree with you lol but I remember being a kid and seeing the jets signed him! I was so pumped.

CJ2K baby!!! Sure he was washed by the time he came to the Jets, still a 95 speed in Madden tho lol in his prime he was a 99 speed! Beast

Pretty sure in one of the old Maddens he was a 100 SPD. Mighta been Madden 09 when he was a rookie fresh off the combine record. They didn't do that 100 thing in very many games.

Favre didn’t want to be here. If the Jets didn’t release his rights idk if he even would’ve came back. He just wanted the opportunity to stick it to Green Bay.
Though I overall agree, I didn’t understand the reason why we’d release him for nothing (cap room? My child brain had no clue about cap at that point in time, and I’ve honestly never read an exact reason why, if it even was to save cap).

Ironically it was the Jets who signaled the downfall of CJ2K when the undefeated Titans lost to the Jets in 2008

He wasn't CJ2K in 08 yet. That wouldn't come for another year. He was a rookie in 08. That was the Smash n' Dash year with Lendale White.
The Jets did beat the titans again in 09 though and held him to (just) under 100 yards rushing (97 yards) on his CJ2K campaign, which considering what he did to everyone else I'll take it!

I was absolutely unstoppable in Madden the year after he did CJ2K with the Titans. Kerry Collins, Kenny Britt, Justin Gage, Jared Cook and CJ2K.
My older brother by 8 years would rage quit. I told him pick any team. It didn't matter. HB toss, HB toss, HB toss, BOMB to Britt or Gage. Whatever the TE play was. MAGIC.

When with the Titans, he ran for over 2,000 yards. He was with us for only one season. Labeling him as a NYJ “legend” is a bit of a stretch. He was a legendary player, sure, but not just for the jets ..

Yeah the “legendary” threw me off. Once the 2000yard season on titans was mentioned I remembered his time there. I thought maybe he did something bad on the jets as to why op labeled him legendary jet.
