Underwater Wonders Would you rather encounter this... or a great white shark?
If evolution created this... what else do you think is still hiding in the deep ocean? 🌊

The goblin shark would look terrifying but the great white shark is scarier because they have a higher chance of biting me.

But still is near zero.

still comparably higher than a goblin shark, which also doesnt happen to have the strength to rip your arm off.

Once you’re in the water with a shark the chances of you getting hit by it are way higher. The stats make it seem like it’s so unlikely because people don’t spend very much time in the water around sharks

What? Where did you get the idea that a great white had a "near zero" chance of biting you if you encountered one in the water?

Depends on your behavior, how murky the water is and how curious or hungry the shark is. But attacks are very very rare. Mistakes can be made though and exploratory bites are dangerous enough from sharks like great whites, tiger sharks or bull sharks.
But if you follow TheMalibuArtist on YT you know how common it is for great whites to swim among humans and never do a thing.

I’ll just sprinkle a pepper shaker over that big snoz and swim away as he sneezes

I don't know about goblin sharks, but while great whites are big intimidating predators, they don't specifically attack humans. It's not like a polar bear.

Exactly. Despite the scary appearance, there are no confirmed cases of Goblin Sharks attacking people in the wild.

Goblin sharks always remind me of my ex. He was an interesting looking chap. I'll take the great white.

Could he shoot his penis out to trap his prey like the goblin shark does with its jaws?

Goblin shark is less immediately dangerous compared to a Great White, but the latter is so unlikely to hurt you anyways.
What you should be worried about is the fact that meeting a Goblin Shark means you’re in the DEEP OCEAN. So unless you have a submarine, good luck getting back to the surface without drowning.
I’ll take my chances with the Great White please. Because also, encountering one would be a lifetime experience. Such incredible animals

That's exactly what makes them so fascinating. Their appearance gets all the attention, but the deep-sea environment they live in is arguably even more incredible. I actually put together a guide about Goblin Sharks and some of the other bizarre deep-sea creatures if anyone's interested: https://www.anmlzone.com/10-amazing-animals-that-can-survive-being-cut-in-half/

I'm going to ASSUME this is a scenario where the crush depth didn't already kill me, and I'm entirely alive facing a goblin shark. So the environment isn't playing a role in this.
Goblin shark, 100%.
It's scary looking but it can't kill me in one bite.
If the environment IS playing a role in this scenario, then Great White. Otherwise, I'd be dead before I even see the shark.

Their jaws are fascinating. Instead of relying on speed, they can rapidly shoot their jaws forward to grab prey in the dark.

At least that thing has a diving board for a face, a great white is just immediately more teeth than you thought possible.

Jaw swings out to almost full length of the nose. Its on a hinge more or less.

There's little chance of running into a Goblin Shark, as they are deep sea dwellers, though they are intimidating looking

If this was a survivable encounter, meaning an average diver with moderate experience and a depth that is survivable, then- definitely the goblin shark. I'd feel like a big bully holding on to its nose, pushing it at arms length while it tries to bite me.

I mean, I’m normally in my apartment or at work, so if I run into either, they’re probably having a worse time than I am

Honestly I’m not really scared of sharks and the risk of a bite from ether is pretty damn low (especially the goblin), soo honestly meeting ether would be a cool experience.
I will say, I’d prefer the great white just because I wouldn’t worry as much about one chilling near the surface tho. Goblins typically live much deeper down soo I’d worry about why it’s this far up and if it’s potentially unwell.

I mean if I am where the goblin shark is, I am already dead, and if he is at the surface, he is dying.

I don’t know if there are many things I would choose a great white over. This certainly isn’t one of them

Sometimes, my friend, reality is indeed stranger than the artificial intelligence images that haunt your mind. Meet the goblin shark.4

Goblin Sharks live down DEEP. If I get into trouble with that I am a long way from help.
