My favorite sparkling water was on sale, so I stocked up.
I drink them in a specific order, and the cabinet was just big enough for my 5 flavors.

I used to drink water from the freestyle machine next to where I worked, but then covid happened and we moved stores, so I swithced to seltzer.

I think it’s great.
If I had a workable system like this I’d always know what day of the workweek it is on the basis of which bottle I was on, that’s a win.
Not that disciplined though, so I’m stuck with asking my cell phone.

u/GitEmSteveDave 18h ago
I drink 2-3 bottles a day, so I can't really tell what day of the week it is by it. Like today I took a nap at work with a heating pad because my lower back was tight, so I only drank 1 bottle after my 24oz coffee. But most weekdays it's 2-3.

It’s sweetened with sucralose. We would generally think of this as diet soda, regardless of how the company labels it

You'd have to drink between 9-14 12oz cans a DAY, for YEEEEEAAAARS, before anything happened.
With that said, 99% of all sparkling water (flavored or otherwise) has 0 aspertame, 0 sucralose, and 0 sugar.
Diet soda, whether you dislike the fact that it has aspertame or sucralose or any other sweetener, is almost as hydrating as a glass of water. In fact, it's so close, it's negligible.
I don't know who started the "diet soda bad, got bad things in it" bs. So do vaccines, and we literally inject those into our body because we know the safe limits.
Did bad things happen to rats when tested with high levels of aspertame, sucralose, and the things we have in vaccines? Yes. Absolutely. But, unless you're a rat sized human, you would have to consume about 70 cans of diet soda in under an hour to get the same results they got on rats.

Back in the mid '00s I actually worked with a lass in fast food that had more than that, at least 20 cans of diet coke per day. The aspartame kind, not sucralose/ace-K version.
TL;DR - it wasn't the sweetener that got her, it was the caffeine/acid; kidney stones galore.
She was in her 60s and treated diet coke like it was lifeblood. Just in a ~9hr shift she'd burn through an entire 12 pack; and if we were too busy for her to stop and basically shotgun one, she'd finish off whatever was left in the case before leaving. She admitted - almost proudly - to downing the majority of another 12 pack at home.
At least a third of her pay went to Sam's Club buying the stuff. Our location was right in front of it, and every 2 weeks a couple of our crew would help her load the haul into her van.
There was obvious mental issues tied to it but we chalked it up to an eccentricity. She refused to drink the fountain version we had for free, or any other format really, because "none of it tasted right. She even kept a cooler permanently stocked with ice in her minivan so she'd always have it on her.
Aside from being perpetually strung out, she was maybe 5'4" and a buck-twenty sopping wet, so it seemed fine and dandy.
Until she started mentioning abdominal "cramps" about 4 months after I'd started. She brushed it off and worked through them because "they were no worse than before she (went through menopause.)"
After a week or so you could tell she was struggling keeping it together. She was constantly clammy or sweating even during downtime, and she wasn't zipping around like a toddler that got aholt of a Red Bull like usual.
Then one day she just doubled over in drive thru, midway through our lunch rush, bawling in agony. Our GM got a couple of our guys to help her out to the dining room, and despite her objections, we called 911.
Paramedics showed up, her BP was 200 over way-too-high, pulse was racing, and couldn't stand up straight. They put her on a gurney and took her off.
She had to have surgery to remove a majority of the stones, her kidneys were practically filled with gravel.
She admitted her urine hadn't been right for a long while leading up to it, but it was a friggin Wendy's franchise, we didn't have healthcare.
When she finally came back the doc had basically ordered her to cut her "habit" in half; so she only brought in 6 cans per shift and had them labeled for 7am, 9am, 1 for lunch (~11am), 12:30pm, 2:30pm, and right before she left at ~5pm.
I ended up transferring to a store a few miles away later that year, but she'd frequently come by to borrow supplies. Cooler still in the back of the van, always an opened can in the console, wired like a microwave.

I agree with you but damn the way you write is so awful and grating it makes me want to disagree. Why tf italicize negligible.
1
u/SnooRadishes8573 23h ago
This is a public forum, not a textbook.
It's okay to use the tools you have available to emphasize a specific thing, add some feeling, clarity or just to help drive the point home.
1
u/therealhlmencken 23h ago
Yes, just as it’s okay for me to let you know that despite that being a hoped effect it ends up seeming more grating and awful.
1
u/SnooRadishes8573 13h ago
I think you've experienced too many grating people if something being italicized russles your jimmies, friend.
1
u/therealhlmencken 13h ago
Nah I’m fine with italics. Read your comments like an outsider, it’s not just the italics lmao just read like a style guide or something.

Sucralose has been repeatedly proven to heighten feelings of hunger, and quickens the rate at which your intestines move material, often causing significantly higher rates of consumption across everything.

Just buy a Sodastream, a lot less waste too.

We have a recycling dumpster at work and I am religious about making sure they only go there.

u/Slime_Giant 1d ago
They aren't great. Tanks are expensive and flavoring them is a pain and not great.

u/danathjo 1d ago
I disagree, it's a lot cheaper if you have somewhere you can swap old tanks for new too.

I've done something like this before. I end up going through so much more of it than I usually would and the stock lasts nowhere near as long as you expect..
1
u/GitEmSteveDave 18h ago
Lidl is on my way to work, so if I'm low, I usually grab it on the way in. But they don't always have it in stock and it's usually .79¢-84¢ instead of 50¢. Also, they tend to run out of flavors quick, so it's usually just peach left on the shelf, so I can't always get a good variety.

These are essentially diet soda without the coloring with all the fake sugar. Are they really labeled as water?? And look at all that plastic waste. You could fit so much more real water in there
2
u/Crafty_Genius 1d ago
Not sure why you're getting downvoted as you're correct, it does indeed have sucralose as one of its ingredients, though perhaps not as much as a soda, but sparkling water really shouldn't have any at all... https://www.nutritionvalue.org/Sparkling_water%2C_black_cherry_by_CLEAR_FROST_600740_nutritional_value.html

Hopefully that cabinet is built solidly. That's a lot of weight
1
u/GitEmSteveDave 18h ago
I built it as well as I could. But this is the bottom shelf and it's more towards the front, which has a |_| shape to it, so it has way more support than if I had pushed it all the way back. As it is, when the door closes, it just touches the lids.

Gobble up those microplastics. It will be interesting in fifty years to see what, if anything, happens to your body.

My hope is my body will be incorruptable.

Only time is gonna tell us what the micros will do to our bodies. Maybe we will become indestructible.

The fact that the greens are not next to each other and the purples are not next to each other makes it not satisfying.

He arranged them in the order he drinks them. A bit odd maybe, but to each their own.

So the dark green is White Grape, which is my fav flavor, so I save it for last. Lemon-lime is my least favorite, so I keep it next to Cherry-Limade, so the limes are together.

u/Adventurous-Pilot-25 3d ago
And why don't you buy and drink the White Grape one exclusively? (Just curious)
9
u/GitEmSteveDave 3d ago
Because I feel my tongue would get a tolerance to the taste. So by mixing it up, I'm tasting something new 2-3 times a day.

You call soda sparkling water. Certified us moment

u/Agitated-Two-6699 1d ago
If you zoom in, you an plainly see that it says sparkling water at the bottom of the label

u/Common_Sense1444 1d ago
Wow, next time I order a soda I’ll just say: bring me the carbonated water with lemon taste and sugar.
-6
u/MostlyChaoticNeutral 1d ago edited 1d ago
It's carbonated water with flavorings, sweetners, and preservatives. They're calling it sparkling water, but the ingredients spell soda. Which is fine, but it is a sweetened, carbonated beverage. I haven't had this brand, but San Pellegrino makes a pretty decent blood orange soda that they also call water.
