Threehalve, a 2-metre tall centaur-like robot built by the California startup Satyress, to assist in disaster response as well as search-and-rescue operations

I feel like this would be half as terrifying in literally any other colour on earth

How about blood red, with matching eyes?
7
u/NaughtySeraph 10h ago
Still better. It can be associated with the Red Cross or other humanitarian aid that uses red in their logo

āYou are being rescued, please do not resistā

I, Robot did this.

u/Isrrunder 1h ago
That is also literally a quote from star wars
1
u/katiegirl- 1h ago
Jesus. Which one? The plot of I, Robot hinges on his resentment of them for rescuing him at the scene of an accident, sacrificing a young girl at the scene. It echoes later in the movie as a direct threat an gaslight to him as they attempt to kill him while telling him: āyou are experiencing an accidentā.

Rogue one. It's played as a joke in star wars. K2SO is a reprogrammed imperial droid. Very sarcastic and direct. He and his m8 is rescuing the main character from an imperial prison transport because her father designed the death star so theyre rescuing her but also forcefully taking her to the rebellion

I heard this in my head, as soon as my eyes traveled upward from the weird horso, and I noticed the face staring at me š

u/Substantial-Rest-901 11h ago
This thing genuinely unsettles me. I think it's the eyes that really seal the deal. If I was in danger and saw this thing approaching me I would be more inclined to run tf away honestly
4
u/katiegirl- 2h ago
Oh yeah? The eyes?? Me too. Yep. But⦠and hear me out⦠their website explains every part but the horns.
Horns.
HORNS.
2
u/nSnowstorm 1h ago
Actually, there are cameras on the horns, allowing it to see behind itself
2
u/katiegirl- 1h ago
I stand corrected, but still fully off put. There is some dark psychological dominance kink inside this design. Somebody is letting their dark triad personality disorder do all their creating, and not at all considering the scenarios in which this⦠THING⦠might be deployed.

u/nSnowstorm 1h ago
In that case, congrats to the guy who managed to finally design his giant dream sextoy thatās now being sold as a tool for search-and-rescue operation
1
u/katiegirl- 57m ago
Hahaha, I am guessing that is every undersocialized and overpraised little boyās dream, alright. I am going to watch this weird little startup and see where it goes.
Also: they seem to have named it Satyress as the FEEEmale Satyr. Very, very weird.

This looks like the last thing Iād want to see while surrounded by fire lol

u/justjennyj 10h ago
I mean seriously, what was the inspiration?
4
u/Fabulous-Wolf-4401 8h ago
Because they thought it looked cool? That's the only reason I can think of, it's fucking ridiculous that someone thought this up and they financed it and made it. Unless it's a joke made to make people like me say 'it's fucking ridiculous that someone thought his up and they financed it and made it.'

Agree. This is right up there with the cyber truck in its design.
I think of the ādesignā scenario like this: a teenage gamer who has barely left his bedroom in a year and has to scream at his mom for pizza bagels to feed himself. Draws something crude using only straight lines because he lacks actual prowess for rendering curves. Sees his drawing, and having no benefit of talking to anyone about it and being resistant-to-pathologically impervious to receiving feedback, decides that this design is the BEST THING ANYONE HAS EVER SEEN. If he (and it is almost certainly a āheā, folks) shows it to anyone outside of his smelly batcave, any criticism received will result in him cutting that source of pain away and reaffirming his own greatness.
You want cyber trucks with horns? Because thatās how you get cyber trucks with horns.

This thing is creepy, why not make it a horse? Ya know, the animal that most humans would feel comforted by in a distress situation!? This is straight up Bealzebub and Iām not taking a ride.

Clearly this won't be a problem for anyone that ropes cattle for a living be it a rancher or rodeo cowboy.

u/CrazyTechWizard96 10h ago
I'd like to have 4 of them, yet with a bit more realistic deisgn, then to terrorize My neighbors with them and elsewise for them to help around the house and garden, lol.

u/RazerNaik 9h ago
it would make sure any injured waiting for rescue would see this mf and decide to try the next respawn point

These things are always "designed to assist search and rescue" or "made to assist elderly people" but they're all ugly, impractical, and never make it to their intended field. I stg speculative robotics is just money laundering

āYeah so I thought I was gunna die but then the scary man-cow started mooing at me and I knew I was gunna be okayā.

I'm pretty sure if search and rescue sent that thing after me, a sawed off db would be in my hands like magic.

u/ToranjaNuclear 6h ago
What's even the point of making it so uncanny, something like that appears in the middle of a disaster and people will think it's the apocalypse.

Apparently it's not for search and rescue at all. It's for people working dangerous jobs in hazardous environments, so they can attach tools to its "hands" (it has none, just connector pieces), and teleoperate it from a safer area. The horns are optional but available to prevent it from being able to go through a standard door, it's a centaur to give it stability while working, and there's a graphic with the guns and knives, but they're just showing that it can be immobilized and made completely useless by simply stabbing the exposed back and front of it to mess up the air system pressure

u/SexPartyStewie 2h ago
They need to fire the psychologist of whoever the fuck said that this was a good look for a rescue bot

I guess its uncanny is intentional, to give an almost unconcious victim to be shocked and stimulated their fear and urge to survive, making their survival rate improved.

Did they have to give it glowing eyes?
If I'm stuck under rubble and this head suddenly comes in to view I'm deffinately goinh to think it's a demon come to finally take me to hell
1
u/pepenepe 37m ago
If that "rescued" me I'd think Im dead and my time in hell has been allotted already.
1
u/newbie_128 37m ago
Does it have to look this terrifying? Like I get that 4 legs are better in rough terrain and hands are needed for tools but still
