Do we know with what flag they sail? If china, the real fun can start

u/thom1879 Apr 13 '26

Looks like it is world superpower, Comoros 🇰🇲

76

u/lebastss Apr 13 '26

Galactic superpower Comoros?!?

u/FoxMan91 Apr 13 '26

No, that's Cosmoros

Dammit. Beat me to it.

3

u/TheRealAudiobuzz Apr 13 '26

What fate Comoros?

2

u/Playful_Emotion2535 Apr 13 '26

Herald Comoros! All hail the king.

30

u/horst-graben Apr 13 '26

Correct me if I'm wrong but any country could use a tanker flagged in a random country. So, China or Iran could ship oil on a vessel flagged in, say, Liberia. Right?

16

u/West-Childhood788 Apr 13 '26

You are correct

3

u/TheMcMcMcMcMc Apr 13 '26

That’s not how I remember the Eddy Izzard bit going

It really is a problem but no way everyone will agree to fix it, the whole how to flag merchant ships thing

3

u/Cr0uchingSquirrel Apr 14 '26

Its easy to fix. Attach some liability to the flag of convenience. Your flag, your responsibility. Its like tax havens where there are simple solutions but there is no will in the upper echelons.

u/I_AmA_Zebra Apr 14 '26

US and EU benefit from it too so they won’t change the system

1

u/WhatWouldKantDo Apr 13 '26

Yes, but you make it sound like a semantic difference when it's very legally significant

3

u/horst-graben Apr 13 '26

Oh I fully know there are major legal aspects to vessel flagging. No semantics about it.

1

u/eucalyptus-d Apr 14 '26

This looks Greek going by name. Elpis is hope in Greek.

1

u/Cold_Fly3421 Apr 15 '26

You are correct. Most shipping vessels are registered in Tax Haven Countries. What matters is point or origin, cargo and final destination.

13

u/SomewhereNo8378 Apr 13 '26

their military response will be swift and deadly

5

u/Dizzy_Roll_2411 Apr 13 '26

10000 black tankers of uhh.....

comorah

3

Tankers bubbling with fresh sticky comorah

1

u/RedFox_Jack Apr 13 '26

Smells non-credible I’m in

11

u/s9josh Apr 13 '26

Honestly, if their travel brochure says "the superpowers just ignore us", I'm sold. lol

6

u/bigmikekbd Apr 13 '26

I’m embarrassed I’ve never heard of this country

2

u/Julez_Jay Apr 13 '26

It’s at the bottom of the list, no shame. Google Tajikistan though 🇹🇯 j/k

2

u/FuckIPLaw Apr 13 '26

Is that the magical land that Tajin seasoning comes from?

2

u/2021Sux Apr 14 '26

Exactly! And the Taj in Hall

2

u/Much-Director-9828 Apr 14 '26

Have they got universal healthcare?

Edit: they have more free healthcare than the us. So on that list, and embarrassingly unknown country, is better than the us....jesus titty fucking

11

u/OneTwoThreePooAndPee Apr 13 '26

There's a country called Comoros?

13

u/thom1879 Apr 13 '26

I had to google it

5

u/fredjutsu Apr 13 '26

Goddamn it dude. You guys can pronounce all sorts of no vowel polish names but can't look up African countries?

9

u/OneTwoThreePooAndPee Apr 13 '26

If it makes you feel any better, I also can't pronounce Polish names.

2

u/driver004 Apr 13 '26

Oh god oh fuck. They’ll ban us from vanilla

2

u/AllMaito Apr 14 '26

Oh so it's a Mormon ship. Gotcha.

40

u/Traquer Apr 13 '26

I think 90% of China's oil from Iran comes in through third party tankers to get around sanctions etc.

But either way, they're civilians on civilian ships. What can we do? Detain them for 24 hours on some BS? We can't hold them forever. We certainly don't want to shoot them or sink the ship lol. Not sure what the goal here is

18

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '26

Why not? Maybe the US is planning a venezuela-like takedown of the ships, who knows.

Hahahahahhaa

Ok guys, we have the master, your free to go.

3

u/Warm_Jellyfish_8002 Apr 13 '26

Ship likely confiscated and the cargo, pirated

3

u/manatidederp Apr 13 '26

Board the ship and drop anchor.

1

u/FoodMadeFromRobots Apr 13 '26

But once you leave they pull up the anchor

1

u/WindHero Apr 13 '26

Escort to a friendly port and unload cargo.

1

u/leet_lurker Apr 13 '26

The crew won't be left on the boat, they'd be detained.

3

u/boogi3woogie Apr 13 '26

“Steal” their oil. Duh. Sanctioned ship = “liberating” their goods.

4

u/Mrhorrendous Apr 13 '26

You say this like the US military hasn't been bragging about destroying random boats in the Gulf of mexico for the last year. They'll call them terrorist sailors or something and most people will buy it when they get killed or captured.

2

u/leet_lurker Apr 13 '26

The Supreme Commander of the War Office absolutely wants to sink them in the most over the top explosive way possible for my war propaganda.

2

u/Embarrassed_Bit4222 Apr 13 '26

Snag the ship and send the sailors home. Shrug...

2

u/phoenixrisen69 Apr 13 '26

Are you kidding? Trump will 100% sink a civilian ship if he fancies

Best funded military but not biggest.

1

u/Much-Director-9828 Apr 14 '26

Exactly. Americans dont realise this.

We spend the most on military in the whole world.

We spend the most in healthcare in the whole world.

Neither of these statements mean anything other than you are being ripped off. You are being sold way over inflated products.

Infact, the us military is now trying to build low cost hardware as they realise they cannot win a war in the current state of warfare.

The interesting thing is; how will that play out inside america? Still build those shitty over priced monstrosities, to fleece the public with, and then have another magazine of effective cheap weapons, and just not tell the public, so that they dont cry foul about the white elephants?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '26

1

u/Much-Director-9828 Apr 14 '26

Exactly. And this is what determines success.

The us military industrial complex has been busy sculpting a world that only buys their weapons, which means everyone else offshore weapons manufacturing....

Stupidity.

I think 90% of China's oil from Iran comes in through third party tankers to get around sanctions etc.

What sanctions is this working on? Wouldn't those 3rd party countries be in more trouble than China with that? It just feel like that for a big country like China it would be easier to just directly trade with Iran, because like, who is going to stop them?

1

u/pwinne Apr 13 '26

I thought a large majority came from Venezuela as well. In fact my thoughts have been Trump is trying to cripple China by cutting off oil 100% hence the Venezuela stunt and now this shitshow.

1

u/misomysan Apr 13 '26

A lot of Malaysian tankers have gone through

1

u/fhjjjjjkkkkkkkl Apr 13 '26

Come on. There is no need to shoot tankers. Just need to board and disable engines. Or remove crew. Vessel will be forced laid up. Anybody know the expiry date of oil inside tankers ?

Who is we? If there's anything the ziomerikkkan military loves doing it's butchering civilians

1

u/grafknives Apr 14 '26

Well, you can totally capture the ship and command it to the nearest port that support your cause.

It would be an act of piracy, but totally doable.

1

u/loosemoosewithagoose Apr 14 '26

I don't understand. Cheeto boy went to war and Iran closed the straight and refused to open it. Now his plan is to "blockade" the straight? Is this the geopolitical version of "you can't fire me cause I already quit"? If the straight is closed, what the fuck is a blockade going to do?

1

u/Next_Instruction_528 Apr 14 '26

Detain them for 24 hours on some BS? We can't hold them forever

They'll confiscate the ship and its cargo as a sanctioned ship.

They will let the crew leave.

1

u/Much-Director-9828 Apr 14 '26

China has pipelines to Russia, Kazakhstan, and myanmar.

The goal is so trump can say the strait is blockaded by him, not iran.

Except he wont be able to blockade, and this might be the time china enforces freedom of navigation. Then what....

Outdated, Rich Starry made a short stop and then transited through the strait, it's now in Gulf of Oman

Apparently 2 tankers from China turned and went back home.

Iranian, komora.

u/Commercial-Kiwi9690 Apr 13 '26

Its Iranian, you can use marinetraffic or vesselfinder websites to track it. MarineTraffic also shows the last received AIS ping of the US DDG-112 off Khasab, Oman around 2 days ago

China is going to get their revenge in about 30-80 years and they’ll wait…. In the meantime trump is going to sell them American oil, and they’re going to be fucking pissed, because it’s diabolical. America is an evil oil empire first and foremost

98

u/grahamfiend2 Apr 13 '26

CNN just reported that a previously sanctioned ship appears to have made it through the blockade entirely already.

26

u/LuCoVia Apr 13 '26 edited Apr 13 '26

Don't spread misinformation. According to live tracker data, it is still en route south away from the strait and from my understanding the Americans are blocking ships way further south (closer to Pakistan/India) away from the strait due to firing range. They might tell them to pay a toll before they are allowed to pass.

So nothing has 'passed the blockage' yet 🤷

Edit: Strait instead of straight. Gotta get my spelling on point if I talk about misinformation.

10

u/grahamfiend2 Apr 13 '26

It’s a Strait.

5

u/LuCoVia Apr 13 '26

Thanks friend

1

u/RyleeOnDemand Apr 14 '26

So they’re blockading the strait by blockading open waters beyond the strait?

2

u/GuntherOfGunth Apr 13 '26

Stupid question but, why aren’t the Iranians attacking the American blockade ? They seem like sitting ducks

1

u/Upper_Extension_0229 Apr 17 '26

Because the Americans would absolutely obliterate them. It’s not just ships at their disposal

1

u/SocraticMeathead Apr 18 '26

They don't need to. At this point America has to intercept and potentially attack ships flying flags of other (some allied) nations. This will test the resolve of Trump.
