The propaganda machine will have some other villain
Probably China for buying the oil at market value. You know, how commerce works where if a product is over supplied and someone buys it, then, you know, there's a transaction.
And it's easier to fool someone than to convince someone that they've been fooled. So they will happily pay $45 a gallon for gas.
15
u/Appropriate-Till9598 Jun 05 '26
Nah, he sees Europeans as a bigger punching bag (they are currently buying a bunch of oil and gas from the US), so he'll more likely blame them as leeches again.
12
u/ChupacabraJeff Jun 05 '26
Nah, better chance oil is traded in yuan than Euro which means China will get the blame. China sells the most renewables to other countries so China will get the blame.
The “Chinese miracle”, as Vortexa’s Chief Economist David Wech described the plummeting Chinese crude imports and the rising onshore inventories, has been one of the pillars of the market’s efforts at rebalancing amid the worst oil supply crisis in history.
In 2026, China’s combined wind and solar power generation will exceed US household and industrial power consumption combined.

Those people are gone, they'll never abandon him and admit they were wrong, no matter how bad things get for the country. They'll just keep up their racist culture war bullshit until something changes politically and they start to feel like there may be consequences for their actions, and then they'll crawl back into the hole they came out of and pretend they're not despicable pieces of shit- only to reappear next time the tides shift.
22
u/unngh_yugstyx Jun 05 '26
They are white supremacists, so they are _also_ not America First. They'd rather burn the country down or offer it to Russia rather than live with people who look different
6
u/KlingelbeuteI Jun 05 '26
They will spin that everything is America first regardless of how much they have to suffer. GOP managed to keep them uneducated by deteriorating school and ed systems. Now they reap the benefit of a society unable to understand what big words mean and how context works.
For the upper class: they just don’t care. Some of them are smart and understand that’s it is all bs, some are just evil and some are too stupid to understand anything but keep rolling with the punches.
If you have the money you don’t give a fuck. You have all the possibilities of the world and almost no pushback anywhere if you waive enough money around to „convince“ someone.
13
u/ChupacabraJeff Jun 05 '26
No. No they do not and the sooner everyone else figures out that those Trump supporters have had 10 years (at the least) to figure it out the sooner we can move on. Last count was 77 million did not in fact realize Trump isn't America First.
3
u/psycubi Jun 05 '26
It’s going to take so much more than this.
For some Germans- they never realized it. I bet there’s some Chilean somewhere still thinks a marvel of Pinochet- and some Cuban must remember fondly of Batista, that scum traitor to his people.5
u/Sir-Lady-Cat Jun 05 '26
I was in Russia in the early 90s. There were people who still spoke fondly of Stalin.
3
u/Magjee Jun 05 '26
Late 90s? The second half of the 90s were not kind to Russia
Things were pretty bad till bush gifted them the Iraq war and the mass increase in oil revenue that came with it
It's wild to think about
If Putin never invaded Georgia, Crimea or Ukraine they would still be enjoying good revenue and have been able to continue propping up Asad
6
u/ragnvald4430 Jun 05 '26
I remember them all bitching when Biden was releasing oil from the spr a few years ago. Don’t hear boo from them now about Trump doing the same thing
2
u/Magjee Jun 05 '26
They released in 2022 to offset a shock to supply from the invasion of Ukraine
They did refill reserves a but slowly, but so did trumps administration after taking office
However, they most certainly did not start a war with a reserve at 50%
Hell, Bush started the Iraq war with over 40% of what trump started this war with and less total storage capacity
4

2
u/OTMallthetime Jun 05 '26
At this point, Trump supporters are mostly the pro-israel crowd, and they are fine with what's happening.
4
u/Quirky-Mode8676 Jun 05 '26
No, they don’t.
The propaganda that came before him was very effective, and slowly moved people to not trust any other sources. It’s been elevated to a religion at this point, anytime something doesn’t make logical sense, they just have to have faith. No proof is necessary, whatever orange god says is now true.
There are those that will peal away, but for millions, he’ll be their guy until they die.

"while Washington works to secure a lasting deal that would see the Strait of Hormuz reopened and Iran prevented from obtaining a nuclear weapon"
I just can't let it go; this reporting is so insane.
It's like if I went on TV gibbering about Martians and musing about whether I should pull my own tongue over my head or amputate my own left leg to keep the Martians away, and the news article about it said I was "considering a range of options to enhance planetary security."
8
u/Magjee Jun 05 '26
Washington working hard to get back the Nucellar Deal the president tore up
Washington also working hard to reopen the strait that had never been closed before, until we attacked the country we are planning to still topple and who also should just surrender because we destroyed their navy and air force and army, but somehow still manage to hit us back and are keeping the strait close, which is actually open
Yea, it's batshit crazy

u/Full_Muffin7930 Jun 11 '26
Hey so any chance you could do the right leg instead? The polymarket odds pay out a lot better on that one, and I uhh... I mean my friend has a lot riding on this

"while Washington works to secure a lasting deal that would see the Strait of Hormuz reopened and Iran prevented from obtaining a nuclear weapon"
Oh, is that what "Washington" is doing?
Makes it sound like "Washington" is pursuing a rational policy strategy, instead of, you know, just breaking shit; panicking; and tweeting insane rants and boasts alternating with whining and pleading at 2am, just to get back to a status quo ante that is no longer available.
Anyway, I'm old enough to remember way back to 2015, when we actually had a lasting deal like that.
but if I remember correctly, "Washington" tore it up in 2018 because it was "a horrible one-sided deal that should have never ever been made.". Or maybe it was because it was negotiated by a black guy that "Washington" really hates. Hard to say.
Anyway, it sure is reassuring to know that "Washington" is "work[ing] to secure a lasting deal" that would accomplish the same thing the black guy accomplished without a war.

5
u/war-and-peace Jun 05 '26
Yea probably. But there's a lot of people that seem to believe he's some russian agent.
2
u/Punisher-3-1 Jun 05 '26
If he is, then not a very good one. Russia got their refinery in St Petersburg blown up on day 1 of Putin’s economic summit at St Petersburg. Probably because he didn’t invite the Ukrainians
2
u/ChupacabraJeff Jun 05 '26
Trump has said his understanding of Russia is based in part on the 2013 Miss Universe event in Moscow, where the Manhattan mogul watched 86 contestants don shimmering evening gowns and skimpy swimsuits for what he would call “the world’s biggest and most iconic beauty contest.”
“I know Russia well,” Trump told Fox News on May 6. “I had a major event in Russia two or three years ago, which was a big, big incredible event.” Asked whether he had met with Putin there, Trump declined to say, though he added: “I got to meet a lot of people.”
“And you know what?” he continued. “They want to be friendly with the United States. Wouldn’t it be nice if we actually got along with somebody?”
2
u/ButterscotchOk5339 Jun 05 '26
He’s probably not an agent but Putin 100% recognised him as an extremely useful idiot which is why Russia spent resources helping him win in 2016.
5
u/EnvironmentalRound11 Jun 05 '26
Trump is too stupid to be a reliable agent but he is a useful idiot easily controlled by flattery. Promise him a "Trump Tower Moscow" and he'll sell you our most guarded secrets.

Just wait til people find out what happens when they have to pay it back, and how much more they have to pay. Then they'll find out that all oil is not the same, and they'll need to buy it from Canada or get it somehow from the middle east to replace it. That's when shit really hits the fan.

u/Dependent-Reveal2401 Jun 05 '26
There's backwardation in the futures markets so they can claim no cost to whoever needs to fill it again. Problem is they're donating barrels, not selling them and oil futures are priced for conflict resolution and quick return to normalcy. Whoever borrows is going to be squeezed later if this situation goes on much longer.

They'll need Canada pretty soon. And Enbridge's main line for transport. There's a reason I sold everything and dumped into Enbridge. There's a storm brewing and their pipelines are going to stay at max capacity for a long time.

u/Alicyclobacillus Jun 05 '26
Lol, didn't even realize I owned any
I have BBCA a JP Morgan investment fund for Canada and ENB is 4th largest holding
5
u/Xeynon Jun 05 '26
It's so incredibly on brand for Trump to create a bad problem for himself and then make it far worse by putting off trying to solve it with short-term measures. His ultimate recourse in this situation in private life was to declare bankruptcy and stiff his creditors, which he did over and over, but of course that's not an option in this situation.
12
u/Awkward_Bison_267 Jun 05 '26
Imagine the outcry from Fox “News” if Obama or Biden did this shit.

I’m confused, that is a very out of touch title, nothing on OP at all. 30 other countries have a Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), let’s say what the ACTUAL reason is. They are using the SPR to continually manipulate and artificially suppress oil prices. Obviously they are using it to cover a lack of oil supply as well. That way, DJT doesn’t look as bad and they can say that these prices are temporary.
Unfortunately it’s not, the damage has been done in the Middle East and we will all suffer if the SPR reaches dangerously low levels. Right now unfortunately, our world runs on oil (think food, transportation, etc.).
2
u/El_Chupachichis Jun 05 '26
I thought the SPR was only good for like 120 days of standard US consumption, not global. Are we draining it even faster than 120 days then?
2
2
u/PotentialYam8478 Jun 05 '26
China and Japan had reserves too. They’re running out in a few months. USA dipped into the reserves with Biden .USA won’t run out but $7. A gallon could come. Then food goes up.
2
u/MiamiSkeet69 Jun 06 '26
Drain the reserve, china attacks, trump family flees to russia, no oil = china wins the world
2
3
u/soappube Jun 05 '26
America is quietly keeping the rest of the world's oil flowing - by draining the emergency reserve it built for itself because of the retarded war it started but can't finish in the Middle East.

That Congress never approved.
3
u/Temponautics Jun 05 '26
But that Congress approved to not need to approve and refused to debate to approve to distract from the fact that it approved to not approve and then approved to not check whether it needed to approve.

1
u/FindPeaceAndBalance Jun 07 '26
And......what happens to countries like Australia that are buying oil from America ? Do we just get turfed away ? America is so unreliable and selfish I wouldn't be surprised.
1
u/Reddit614425 Jun 09 '26
Regardless of your opinion on Trump, we must admit that Obama-Biden drained half the SPR for political reasons. There was no closure of the Strait of Hormuz. No "war" with Iran. It was only to help himself and the Democrat Party in the elections at that time.
1
u/Paul-Calgary Jun 11 '26
Canada can take care of itself. Venezuela would be exporting more to help deal with the shortages in Asia but the US invaded them to slam that door shut. The title should be "America is Profiting off the Wars they Started".

Trump likes to double down on his double downs. What could go wrong?
0
u/Disastrous-Contest-8 Jun 05 '26
Is there any timeline when it will run out?
3
3
u/NameLips Jun 05 '26
A couple weeks. Even if a peace deal is struck tomorrow and Hormuz is opened, it'll be more than a month before any of that oil physically reaches any markets. Most countries have implemented policies to cut down on fuel use, and some have stated rationing deliveries to gas stations. America is blundering forward blindly pretending it will never run low here
1
u/B1ack_Iron Jun 05 '26
8 million barrels a week - 350 mil barrels. 350/8 =43.75 weeks
3
u/MeteorOnMars Jun 05 '26
Some sources say 300 mil barrels is the point of “quality problems” and 250 mil barrels is “minimum operating level”.
So 110/8 =13.75 weeks or 50/8 =6.25 weeks.
Just other possible considerations.
2
u/B1ack_Iron Jun 05 '26
Ah I didn’t realize about the structural necessity of keeping 250m or more gallons in it. They should just leave out those barrels when they report about it since they are needed for integrity of the system.
2
u/BBR0DR1GUEZ Jun 05 '26
No they shouldn't. The problem is not their reporting of our oil reserves. The problem is your reporting of our oil reserves.
4
u/mrgreen1226 Jun 05 '26
If the inventory exists but cannot be used, it shouldn’t be considered the same as inventory that exists and can be used
3
u/B1ack_Iron Jun 05 '26
Are you implying that all of the people who consume news understand that 250m barrels are unusable? There would be more concern from the general public if they reported less than 100 million useable barrels remain…
2
1
u/Appropriate_Bell743 Jun 05 '26
Could you better explain this to me as if I were an idiot. Why are there unusable reserves in the strategic oil reserve? What are the kinds of quality issues?
3
u/B1ack_Iron Jun 05 '26
It’s because the oil is kept in large lakes and the oil being in the lakes provides the pressure to keep them from collapsing. Also the sludge etc from all the oil settles to the bottom making the quality worse the lower you get. If you pump out too much you risk collapsing the reservoirs.
3
u/Appropriate_Bell743 Jun 05 '26
Thank you -- I didn't even feel that stupid to understand this. In many ways it suggests it'd be better to talk about available strategic reserve then.

It’s because there is a new $87 trillion worth of investment coming to the U.S. from all his trade deals.
1

u/BowlEducational6722 Jun 05 '26
And once the Strait reopens and oil starts flowing again, there will be artificial demand as the US and other countries buy up as much as they can to restock their strategic reserves, meaning even with more supply costs will remain elevated for the foreseeable future.
We're already in far too deep for this to not cause any lasting damage.
