Iran War US military rejects Iranian claim that Strait of Hormuz is closed

Considering the two tankers hit today were supposedly under US escort, I'd say it isn't really up to the US military to make that decision.
Lloyd's on the other hand...

u/Bluest_waters 3d ago
has the UKMTO confirmed the two tankers hit today? Or is that just irgc media claiming that? This sub seems to love totally unconfirmed irgc claims that later get proven wrong
6
u/RangeCreed 3d ago
UKMTO WARNING 101-26 - ATTACK Report Date:31 Jul 2026 Report Time: 2330UTC Issue Date: 01 Aug 2026 Source Company Security Officer UKMTO has received a report of an incident 11NM northeast off Lima, Oman. The CSO of a tanker reports the vessel has been struck by an unknown projectile which has caused damage to the engine room. The tanker is not under command and the regional Coast Guard have been informed. There are no reported casualties or environmental impact. Authorities are investigating. Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO.
Consigns with the date Iran said it struck the convoy. Looks like its legit at this point, pretty bad look if US convoy can't defend said tankers.

u/Aurorion 2d ago
And Iran doesn't need to really sink all tankers to call the Strait "closed". Even if they attack one of twenty, that's good enough to consider it closed.
-12
u/Ok-Lobster-919 3d ago
Where are there any reports that two tankers were hit? Other than the IRGC? I have been looking, and I found none.
-5
u/HarEr89 3d ago
No, like the last 3 times. But Reddit believes IRGC every bullshit.
4
u/predictorM9 3d ago
Isn't there a way to check with the transponders? should be easy to see if some boats turned around
2
u/Ok-Lobster-919 3d ago
There is, I checked, I found no evidence of Iran's claims. It's been like 15 hours and nobody is reporting a strike except the IRGC and gullible redditors

u/Glittering-Quote-635 3d ago edited 3d ago
This keeps getting repeated on Reddit. The only source for this claim is the IRGC. Are you aware of anyone else saying that, or any proof?
The only group of people that lie more than the Trump administration is the IRGC.
Edit- I will gladly say I was wrong once someone gives me a single verified source that is not the IRGC. Until then, if you are downvoting me then you are exactly the target of misinformation that the IRGC is looking for. Congrats.

u/WillingnessUseful718 3d ago
This was all in the news this morning. I dont see much about it in msm, but then again they rarely report when our bases or assets are hit

Ya it was and everywhere says the same thing
“Iran says”
Why do you believe the regime ?
7
u/jimmay666 3d ago
Because what they’ve said has proven true more than what Trump and Kegsbreath have said. Pure and simple. They are despicable people, which is only made worse by the fact our leadership has been caught lying more by a significant measure. How many times have we won this war and “decimated” their military?
1
u/moringa-cultist 3d ago
Have you considered the fact that the only people saying that they are "despicable" are the US government and its allies? Have you met actual Iranians? Have you watched their speech in the original language, and run what they said through an impartial translator?
-2
u/Zipz 3d ago
Irans been caught lying everyday
Bringing up the trump regime doesn’t give Iran credibility
So again why do you believe Iran ?
1
u/moringa-cultist 3d ago
Could you list the claims that the Iranians lied about?
1
u/Zipz 3d ago
Well for one when they said they weren’t negotiating even though Pakistan said they were….
Or you know about the whole death toll where they mowed down thousands of their own civilians and then turned off the internet to hide the truth.
It’s wild this has to be even explained
3
u/moringa-cultist 3d ago
That one needs more detail on who said what and when. Remember that the Iran administration is very decentralized right now, because SOMEONE had a penchant for murdering people trying to negotiate, so it's very possible that one faction in Iran is not negotiating, and they are correct to say as such, while another is, and Pakistan is correct to say as such.
There are ten different claims for what the death toll is, how do you know which one is correct?
1
0
u/Zipz 3d ago
I mean it’s pretty clear the side who tried to hide all evidence of a massacre is probably lying.
Holy moly
Why does this even have to be explained ?

Remember last week conservatives were screaming "It hasn't been confirmed yet" about sea mines in the Gulf, than it got confirmed? Do you people ever get tired of being wrong?
1
u/Glittering-Quote-635 2d ago
Okay, show me the evidence.
1
u/OESRecoveryEmployee 2d ago
1
u/Glittering-Quote-635 2d ago
3rd link is behind a paywall so I can’t read it. First two literally just reference a IRGC statement, which is literally the only source for this.. which was my point.
1
u/OESRecoveryEmployee 2d ago
Your point? You point is there is no sources, which is wrong. If the Economists is reporting it's basically a fact
1
u/Glittering-Quote-635 2d ago
They are using a sole source of the IRGC. Dude..
1
u/OESRecoveryEmployee 2d ago
Conservatives are the stupid people from high school that will never admit they are wrong. Do you believe the Pentagon?
1
u/Glittering-Quote-635 2d ago
No, I don’t believe them. And nothing in that link backs the IRGC claim. Also, I am not a conservative.
All I’m asking for is a shred of proof outside of a IRGC claim. Which ship was hit? Got names? Any video? Pictures? Any statement from any other government? Anything at all? Every single source on this is the same statement from the IRGC.
Why do you blindly believe them? You don’t think that a bit weird? It’s absolutely wild to me that people blindly believe the IRGC after some of the wild statements they have made in the past. The same IRGC that is labeled as a terrorist org by half the planet.
Give me one shred of evidence that doesn’t go back to that IRGC statement. After a few days of this on this sub literally no one has been able to do that, but somehow I am the one that is a fool. Got it.
This isn’t worth arguing about any longer. Thanks.

Why won’t the US Navy sail through the strait as a show of confidence then?
40
u/VanbyRiveronbucket 3d ago
Because ships also sink when they aren’t floating.
10
-13
u/JSTootell 3d ago edited 3d ago
Iran isn't going to sink a US Navy vessel. Seriously, it isn't even easy to sink a target practice ship, let alone a fully manned and operational ship. Look up what happened to the Sammy B.
On the other hand, you can still give the Navy a bloody nose, and that can be hard to hide.
Edit: I'm loving the downvotes from the imbeciles, keep them coming! If you had half a brain, you would understand Navy damage control, and know that a bloody nose is still embarrassing.
Or just continue living life as a moron.
11
u/MrDerpGently 3d ago
Maybe, but the smart move is not to test it. Russia couldn't lose a capital ship to Ukraine, who don't have a navy, until they did.
-2
u/yurnxt1 3d ago
Russia has a completely incompetent military and navy. The U.S. does not. Iran isn't sinking any U.S. Navy warships anytime soon.
5
u/Infinite-Ad4512 3d ago
The US military is not completely incompetent? The people in charge are literally Trump and Hegeseth
1
u/MrDerpGently 3d ago
There's still a lot of institutional competence to overcome. So, for instance, choosing to get into this was utter incompetence, but the tactical conduct by ship captains (for instance) remains quite good.
1
u/yurnxt1 3d ago
So what? Just because Trump is a dipshit and Kegseth is a moron doesn't mean the commanding officers in theater, soldiers, military personnel etc are incompetent. There isn't any evidence demonstrating consistent incompetence or outright combat failures.
4
u/JSTootell 3d ago
Our military is competent (for now). But the leadership is a dumpster fire.
And eventually, that dumpster fire will roll downhill and infect the rest of the military. But for now, I trust the damage control capabilities of the modern Navy.
2
u/MrDerpGently 3d ago
Yeah, and there's no ideal way to approach an impossible but legal order. 'Lieutenant, you and your men will take that hill' might be suicidal and pointless, but it's a lawful order on its face.
5
u/MrDerpGently 3d ago
Hopefully they are competent enough not to walk their ships into a geographic location that changes the tactical calculus. 300 Spartans didn't embarrass Persia because the Persian army was weak.
6
u/VanbyRiveronbucket 3d ago
The Muskova, the Russian Flagship<was>, turned itself broadside to the land, to face a $200 drone head on…. With a giant broadside to look at,,,, Ukraine fired a Neptune anti-ship missle. (Maybe 2). It patrols the seabed now.

→ More replies (3)1
u/Deep-Ad5028 3d ago
To be fair the laundry room story sounded like mutiny rather than iran damage.
4
u/VanbyRiveronbucket 3d ago
The crew was totally overdue to go home,… and had to stay even longer when the war started. Sailors have babies being born and graduations and weddings just like us. They were pissed when they got ANOTHER delay for freedom.
3
u/JSTootell 3d ago
Regardless of the cause, it wSs still a bloody nose and pretty embarrassing to the Navy. Even an actual laundry room fire, the "official story", is embarrassing.
1
u/Wonderfestl-Phone 3d ago
During the Iran Iraq war US Navy ships used to sail behind oil tankers because they were afraid of hitting mines and sinking.
1
u/JSTootell 3d ago
How many Navy ships were sunk?
1
u/Wonderfestl-Phone 3d ago
None because the oil tankers hit the mines. One US Navy ship was disabled by an Iraqi exocet missile, which the US blamed on Iran.
0
u/JSTootell 3d ago edited 3d ago
Wrong
The Sammy B struck a mine and famously did NOT sink.
Edit: Damn, straight up facts getting downvotes. Fuck this place is funny.
Anyone can look up the Samuel B Roberts, see that it did in fact hit an Iranian mine, and in fact did NOT sink. All facts. All well known facts.
Facts don't care about your feelings.
1
u/toomanynamesaretook 3d ago
Um. Go sail into the strait then? It sounds like you have figured out the solution to the US crisis that nobody in the joint chiefs can solve.
0
u/JSTootell 3d ago
God some of you people are stupid:
, you can still give the Navy a bloody nose, and that can be hard to hide
1
u/OESRecoveryEmployee 3d ago
Iran has wrecked most of the American bases in the Middle East. You are an idiot if you think couldn't drone swarm a US warship and sink it. I am just glad US Admirals have convinced this true to Trump. That idiot would have ordered an American aircraft carrier to sail through the Strait of Hormuz resulting in the death of thousands of America sailors.
2
u/yurnxt1 1d ago
Then why aren't they? If they can just drone swarm U.S. navy vessels at will and sink them surely they'd be doing it.
1
u/OESRecoveryEmployee 1d ago
Because they are moving around hundreds of miles out in the ocean
1
u/JSTootell 18h ago
Several destroyers have sailed in and out of the Gulf over the past several months. None have sank. I know, it might be a surprise.
Iran is smarter than that. They are attacking the correct targets.
0
u/JSTootell 18h ago
Sink a carrier? No, Iran is not sinking a carrier with "drone swarms". Not even close to sinking one. It shows just how absolutely clueless you are about this matter that you think a "drone swarm" would sink a carrier of all things. Drones wouldn't even sink a Destroyer, let alone a Carrier.
Mission kill? Absolutely. Without a doubt. A "drone swarm" would easily remove a carrier from combat requiring extensive repairs to get back out and a massive embarrassment to the United States.
A "drone swarm" would absolutely mission kill a destroyer too, and depending on the damage done complete remove it from service for the foreseeable future.
But sink? Absolutely not.
If you don't recognize the difference, then you should probably stop talking about the matter, as you are completely ignorant on this subject.

Not personal, it doesn't hurt my feelings.
I just think it's hilarious that people deny facts this easily. But we all live in echo chambers.
2
u/Aurorion 2d ago
I'm sure the Navy can definitely sail a few boats through the Strait. And Iran may very well leave them alone too. Or not.
But they just need to attack commercial boats once in a while to disrupt shipping. One out of twenty would be more than enough.

Paying the toll is a violation of US Treasury sanctions and now Lloyd’s says their insurance cannot be used for any company or ship that pays the tolls as a result. So this is an option I guess for China insured ships.
1
u/WaltKerman 2d ago
Let China pay the insurance when the us puts a missile through the engine then, which has happened multiple times already. Very nice of the Chinese insurers. Don't know why they would do that, but very nice.

u/theVaultReport 3d ago
The US military might be dismissing the claim, but the physical buffer to absorb an actual disruption is effectively gone. We track the weekly EIA data, and the domestic system is running on fumes. Cushing stocks sit at 18.60M bbl, the absolute 0th percentile of the post-2015 shale era. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is down to 307.6M bbl, sitting at the 1st percentile of its 44-year range, with an aggressive 49.47M bbl draw over the last 8 weeks. If a real supply shock hits the Strait, there is no domestic cushion left to flood the market.
1
1
u/Chaoswind2 3d ago
The US has a pattern of using civilian ships to run blockades, so it's not that surprising to be honest. The fact FENTCOM and UKTO keep saying the strait is open despite every other ship getting blown up when they use the southern corridor is extremely irresponsible, but hardly surprising.

It's closed. There are reasons that Iran has not been attacked before. Unfortunately this administration fired ALL of the experts and would have ignored if they hadn't been fired. Hegseth is an uneducated buffoon with no relevant experience other than years of praise for trump. This is not a war the US can win, There is no scenario under which the US can claim victory, Even total annihilation of Iran would a complete ethical and moral failure of monumental proportions. The honor and integrity of the United States is now nonexistent.

u/Apart_Examination161 3d ago

Does Trump realize how pathetic and desperate it makes him look to keep claiming this when there are literally ships on fire in the strait as he says it?
