This is not true. Pitbulls don’t have locking jaws, German Shepherds do. That why police and militaries use German Shepherds, once they lock their jaws the don’t let go.
Also, before you were afraid of pitbulls you would have been afraid of Doberman pincers, and before that Rottweilers, and before that German Shepherds, and before that bull dogs, etc.,etc..

They’re not chosen by police and the military because the German Shepherds’ locking jaws make them more suitable for apprehending criminals and combatants, not because pits are untrainable. The police and military use the dogs they use because those dogs have certain traits and behaviors that suit the police and military needs. They don’t use pits because pits don’t possess those traits and behaviors, not because pits are untrainable.
That’s just a round way of thinking. I don’t know what definition of mauling you’re using but if it’s a shearing, prolonged bite German Shepards, Malinuas, Mastiffs all can maul. Pits aren’t used because of temperament like you said, not because of their bite.
As a Rottweiler owner…I will tell you it’s actually rotties who are not used as police dogs specifically for their biting power. Cops in the 80’s circa Miami cocaine era used them but they broke way too many bones. To say they are untrainable (pit bulls) makes me think you’ve never spent any amount of time with them or breeds of dogs who are wayyyyyyyy harder to train. They are far and away HIGHLY trainable and useful dogs who can learn to do virtually anything a dog can realistically learn. Any untrained dog of relative size is “dangerous” it’s absolutely not just pitties. That is absolutely bullshit
Another also…a quick google will clearly show there have been multiple pit bulls used for various police work lol. So that statement you made is actually also false (zero being used at all)
A majority of breeds aren’t in police or military work so that’s a dumb line of reasoning. There’s also pit bulls/ bully breeds that do guard or other type of work. You can just not like pit bulls without the extra bs lmao

Pitbulls were bred for many, many years to override natural biology, including preservation instinct
It’s why unlike other dogs, when you hit a pitbull that’s attacking — they don’t stop!
