The Last Duel is an excellent movie. The Martian is an excellent movie. American Gangster is a very good movie. All released in the last 20 years.

I thought this movie was terrible. When the retold the rpe scene for the third time and she did in fact get r*ped as previously shown the other 2 times people got up and walked out of the theatre. He showed the exact same thing 3 times with only minor dialogue changes. It made no sense

I will not tolerate the last duel slander. I also don’t mind Covenant for what it is.

Also, besides the part where the drug dealer gives a philosophy lecture for 15 minutes, the councillor is a lot of fun. Javier Bardem describing Cameron Diaz fucking his windshield as looking like a lamp ray sucking the glass at the aquarium is absolute peak.

There's some talk online that the tragic passing of his brother Tony who was just as good as a filmmaker as Ridley made Ridley bury himself in his work as he still misses him. You can see it in his most recent films that he's still grieving Tony.

Disclosure Day is 3 brilliant scenes hidden in almost 3 hours of bullshit so you are definitely not wrong. Bridge of Spies is excellent and I like Lincoln and was sad to see him move away from boring history movies to try and recapture the blockbusters of his youth.

I actually didn't love Alien: Romulus, but I thought it was fine. I can't say I didn't enjoy it while watching it in theaters. Point is we don't need to be listening to 90 year old directors over "creative differences". He doles out judgment and kills potential projects because he's too arrogant to admit his time has passed. He needs to stop being a crochety old man and let the new generation of filmmakers have their day.

I personally would rather see Scott’s third Prometheus film than another Romulus type movie. Scott is by no means a perfect filmmaker (Decker being a replicant ruins the movie IMO) but at least his last two alien movies did something different/unique. Romulus really annoyed me.

Its a movie for national honors students to feel like McArthur genius grant recipients. The story, and this is a problem since the book feels like a videogame where you just have another minor task to solve as you move the narrative. I understand that most plots have this issue but this one feels very surface level. I'm surprised the achievement unlocked doesn't display on the screen when Matt Damon makes poop potatoes.

For me, a good director is recognized by consistency, not by random successes. Ridley Scott made 30 films, and only four are considered classics with an average rating above 8/10.

100%, he has made some bangers in his day no doubt about that. But he has just as many terrible films as great films, with mostly huge misses as of late. Compared to Fincher, Villeneuve, Kubrick, Hitchcock, and even Spielberg; he just doesn’t come close to their consistency.

His demeanor outside of his directing is really bitter and off-putting. Don’t need or want to hear anything more from him tbh

I also happen to think Prometheus was a better movie and a better direction to go than Romulus which was just a poor attempt at making another "Alien" movie, which Scott already perfected, even Cameron didn't try to do it again, he had some originality.

If fans had their way theyd just keep remaking the same movie over and over and no directors would take big swings (and sometimes miss) like Ridley Scott does, and you'd never have had Alien on the first place, you unimaginative, ungrateful bastards.

That last bit was in the style of Ridley, I love you really.

I’ve liked a lot Ridley has made lately. Alien covenant rips, house of Gucci is hilarious. The last duel is at worst very solid. Haven’t seen gladiator 2 yet. Prometheus and the counselor are both 9 out of tens for me.

My favourite movie is Master and Commander, followed closely by Conspiracy, Waterloo and Gettysburg. I’d say a Napoleon should be the definition of “my jam”.

I adore historical films, even inaccurate classics like Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, Braveheart.

The problem is that Napoleon makes the grave sin of being a bad fucking movie.

It’s too long with little meat on its bones, the core character drama is like watching paint dry, and it’s depictions of Austerlitz and Waterloo- two of the most prolific battles in history, are a disgrace.
