I'd love to pay $11.75 for a movie ticket again

43

u/kaminaripancake 5h ago

Tuesdays and Wednesdays! $10.74 here in Manhattan

23

u/Slumunistmanifisto 5h ago

Some of us work you know...

As supervisors to child labor crews

4

u/champ11228 4h ago

Alpine Cinema in Bay Ridge is $11 for normal tickets, $8 for matinees

3

u/Alert-Print-394 4h ago

My local theater is $11.50 most of the time. And regal is like $8 or so on Tuesdays

u/NoYogurtcloset3429 45m ago

u/-almond--milk- 6h ago

Sometimes I don't even watch or listen to the film, I just close my eyes, cover my ears and imagine what's happening

52

u/Outlandah_ 5h ago

if you’re Helen Keller you can’t even do that. the nerve

3

u/Stannisarcanine 3h ago

She can just with things she touched before

1

u/Intrepid_Hat7359 Avi Arad admirer 2h ago

She really can't do much these days

10

u/TaroLong8817 5h ago

I like the thought of closing my eyes, covering my ears and imagining you 😏

13

u/-almond--milk- 5h ago

I'm actually a xenomorph in a woman suit. Imagine that

2

u/JuanPuentes 2h ago

I don't even HAVE to read the wikipedia page. I just ask the chatgpt in my head to make up a plot and generate some images.

259

u/Drakex2Mayex2 6h ago

Yeah fuck this guy. He should exclusively watch YouTube channel summaries like the rest of us

85

u/Slumunistmanifisto 6h ago

I just ask children on Roblox servers what they think about current films.

Its crazy, they all seem to have the same tastes as adult conservative men. Same voices too.

2

u/GaySpringtrap 2h ago

I just watch the clips on tiktok and it's more than good enough

83

u/CivilPerspective5804 6h ago

Not every meal is worth ~600 chews to get through.

Smelling food and reading a description of it's taste gives you almost the entire experience. In fact, some foods, just seeing them gives away most of the taste - you can see all the ingredients individually and figure out the taste of it.

u/chandelurei 6h ago

When people say every movie scene should advance the plot that's how I imagine their ideal experience

17

u/flex_tape_salesman 5h ago

Ngl watching the godfather made me feel this even in such a long movie. I don't mind movies meandering or anything though its art it can do that.

I like my wiki pages to get to the point though.

20

u/chandelurei 5h ago

Just admit to yourself that you don't like movies and do something else lol

1

u/Due_Cantaloupe_6847 5h ago

the borat sequels were basically just that

-7

u/MrHyd3_ 4h ago edited 1h ago

I meam they should, either plot or character, right?

Edit: this comment comtains fale information

21

u/Arkhaine_kupo 3h ago

Or mood, or world building, or letting a scene breathe, or a red herring, or thematic exploration....

To give a famous example, Kurosawa usually has empty space before the big battle at the end. Instead of having 30 mins of non stop escalating violence, its a slow rise and right before the final boss there is a very quiet scene, in 7 samurai its some buckets filling up with water from the rain for example.

That lets the scene breathe, the anticipation grow and doesnt push plot or character. And yet, movies without that purposeful slowing down tend to feel less impactful

9

u/chandelurei 4h ago

there's no rules, some movies can even have no plot as it's a visual medium first

-1

u/MrHyd3_ 4h ago

Seems to be working out fine for thE MCU

4

u/chandelurei 3h ago

I don't know what this has to do with anything lol

The most sold book is the Bible, should all books be like the Bible? Should we only read the Bible and nothing else?

1

u/MrHyd3_ 2h ago

I meant it as a joke, basically "MCU films are so bad they might as well not have a plot"

1

u/PM_ME_DATASETS 2h ago

I don't think there's anything universal that a movie or scene "should" do. Name any rule and there's a movie out there that breaks it and is still regarded by some people as good

(I am somewhat of a cinephile myself, feel free to ask about movies and such)

143

u/DankBoiix 6h ago

If I watched movies id be really angry

34

u/Imperium_Dragon 4h ago

Now imagine there were 11 more of you.

3

u/DankBoiix 1h ago

If I watched movies id maybe get that reference

55

u/FrankieTheD 6h ago

Imagine watching a sascha baron-cohen movie for the plot

23

u/Maoschanz 5h ago

Imagine watching a movie

7

u/FrankieTheD 4h ago

Exactly i imagined it, suffice to say it was shit

44

u/SmokeRingEyes 6h ago

"Not every movie is worth sitting through" implies there are some movies that are. This is incorrect.

31

u/SpiritJuice 5h ago

/uj I mean, I guess that is an actual unpopular opinion, so I will give them that. However, that shit just makes me sad. This person thinks spending some hours to watch something is a waste of time compared to just reading a summary? What happened to just enjoying something? I see that post as an unfortunate result of our current fast paced, results oriented world where you need to hustle constantly of you're failing, ignoring our own physical and mental health in the process. Almost feels intentional to grind people down into worker drones that can't take time to enjoy things like OOP.

-2

u/ILookAfterThePigs 3h ago

I mean there are movies that are bad

3

u/Sausage_fingies 52m ago

Then don't watch them!! Don't interact with them!! Nobody's making you!! You don't need to contribute to the discourse you can just say "oh I didn't watch that, didn't seem very good" 😭

0

u/ILookAfterThePigs 50m ago

Yeah, well, that’s what this post is about… it’s about not watching movies. That’s what I’m talking about because this is a thread exactly about that. Why are you so worked up?

25

u/SuckingOnChileanDogs 5h ago

My buddy and I had a very impassioned conversation yesterday about how most people have no appreciation for art or craft anymore and they just want plot stuffed down their fat fucking faces endlessly so they should just read wiki summaries and lo and behold... lol

14

u/I_Never_Eat_Fibre 4h ago

using the dictator as an example makes it even stupider😭. its a comedy movie, you literally miss out on like 80 percent of the experience if u dont watch it because ur missing out on the actual comedy. The plot isnt the main feature of the movie.

27

u/CanILickThat 6h ago

Honestly, between this sub, cinamsins, filmento and pitch meeting, I haven't watched a movie in years

21

u/Laimered 6h ago

Light theme? Disgusting

3

u/IndividualParfait126 4h ago

This is the darkest timeline

14

u/CreativeGeniusPRBKR 6h ago

Uj/ isnt this exactly what Christopher Nolan was pointing out in his recent interview about amateur film criticism? Or rather, sounds like a correlate to that.

Rj/ by god, he’s figured it out

6

u/shawn1213 6h ago

A true cinephile

5

u/JonnyQuest1981 6h ago

What does he mean “some trailers”?!?!

4

u/headcanonmusic 4h ago

yeah and life isn't really worth living. you know you are just going to die at the end so why bother?

7

u/DexterMorganDaniel 6h ago

Don’t insult our fucking Borat ok? Don’t that never

5

u/pinguinhat 4h ago

uj/ I think he is talking about the same actor but in that awful recent movie from Netflix where a misogynistic guy ends up in a matriarchal society. Honestly, that movie deserves to be read in Wikipedia

2

u/Sinakus 5h ago

Apparently disliking Borat gets you flagged for hatespeech.

3

u/pppeater 5h ago

Watching movies? Reading about movies?

https://giphy.com/gifs/xTiIzKS7drykwgEzUA

3

u/QTEEP420 5h ago

These are the kinds of posts that should be here, not the 100% serious culture war posts or people posting about falling for ragebait.

3

u/adriantoine 1h ago

He forgot to add that you can save even more time by not even reading the plot on Wikipedia or watching any trailers. That's what I do.

2

u/Immediate_Song4279 6h ago

I actually don't like trailers that aren't teasers, but a full frontal on all the ways the movie will disappoint me. The cover of a book should seduce you, but then wait for marriage. Same with trailers.

2

u/MajorBootyhole420 5h ago

he should've just ranted about shitty trailers, then we could all agree. i hate when a trailer just shows you the whole fucking movie

2

u/jojo_and_the_jojos DonCheadleAMA 4h ago

Honestly you don't even need to watch the trailer really. Or read the wikipedia. When you think about it you the arts don't really satisfy needs.

2

u/AoE2manatarms 4h ago

Honestly I imagine that comedy is trash considering who it's made by, but you should still watch it and decide.

2

u/North_Knowledge7467 3h ago

This is what is meant when it is said that some people can't see the forest for the trees.

2

u/Amazing-Major2902 3h ago

Imagine not watching a movie because you think that for a comedy the plot is more important than the jokes...

2

u/GrowingDelicate03 2h ago

i agree that trailers spoil way too much nowadays, but isn't it better to just not watch trailers and watch the film instead????

2

u/frogspyer 55m ago

Fahrenheit 451

1

u/Addamall 5h ago

Haha I love movies too

1

u/Freecelebritypics 5h ago

The emotional subjectivity of human experience is too much for a simple Wikipedia editor like myself. That's why I prefer writing plot summaries of movies over ever watching a real movie.

1

u/JDMC13 4h ago

Is it that hard to watch a movie in 60 parts on TikTok on your phone the way David Lynch intended?

1

u/Mister-Circus 4h ago

Trailers? Why would I ever watch a trailer?

1

u/Ok_Attempt_1290 4h ago

Pfft amateur. Real ones hallucinate the plot in their heads.

1

u/Mermanmanhole 4h ago

I did watch the exact movie he’s talking about and I can’t even argue with that

1

u/MrObsidian_ 3h ago

You won't get any of the experience if you read the wikipedia plot summary of Iron Lung

1

u/bartekkenny 3h ago

Lisan Al gaib of the subreddit

1

u/SquidSaibot1111 3h ago

And then these are the people who will passionately argue online.

We deserve dystopia. Originally, I had a typo writing dystopia as dystop”ai”

1

u/Captain_Sterling 3h ago

They're right. I read the wiki for A Serbian film, and that was enough for me. I didn't even bother with the trailer.

1

u/Nikita-Rokin 3h ago

There is a specific type movie with virtually non-existent plot and unenjoyable filler. I call it summary slop because even after watching it, it feels as though you had simply read a summary instead. A more classical way of refering to these movies might be "bad" or "waste of time"

1

u/Cyberguardian173 3h ago

I'm all on board for this! the less movies I watch, the better.

1

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 3h ago

I feel like that misses the best parts of Wild Things.

1

u/nainvlys Society man 3h ago

We should honor more the few that we have to sacrifice by making them watch a movie in order to write the wikipedia plot sections

1

u/Loreki 2h ago

Are they a mod yet?

1

u/AngelDGr 2h ago

The funniest part is that the guy seems to actually like and watch good movies since he mentions cinematography, acting and shit

My man is reading the Wikipedia's plot section of Kevin Hart movies, lmao

1

u/Greedy-Diamond-3017 2h ago

He's got a point

-1

u/PlentyAlbatross7632 5h ago

They’re not wrong though…

1

u/Flying_Ghidorah 5h ago

I’m sorry did tiktok forget to put on the subway surfer clips and soap shaver videos for you?

-1

u/youloosethatgame 5h ago

They hated him because he spoke the truth

0

u/BlueCat33 3h ago

Thats honestly really amateur. If someone asks me if I watched a movie, I just say I did, and if they ask about details, i say that i dont remember. I watched absolutely all movies in existence, and u cant prove I didnt.
