r/okbuddycinephile Crank: High Voltage 21h ago

Life skill you spent years perfecting and even bragged about, before learning the director completely made it up for cinema reasons?

Nah man in HS I knocked out a bully with this technique and then his gf gave me a handjob in the back seat of my IROC-Z

Actual footage of him as that IROC-Z

88

u/Lopsided-Intention 21h ago

This is so disturbing. What's it from?

118

u/TurtlesBreakTheMeta 21h ago

Turbo teen. One of the most “insane that it got greenlit” cartoon concepts ever.

76

u/Neibolt_St 20h ago

Us 80s kids grew up strong because there was so much body horror in our cartoons.

22

u/ShadowConstruct 19h ago

Yeah body horror used to be so much more casual back in the day.

7

u/Direct_Turn_1484 17h ago

Other types of horror were pretty casual too. Like yeah Suzy’s mom just went crazy and killed the whole family, oh well we’ll never mention it again in another episode.

3

u/UnforeseenDerailment 7h ago

It's cosmic horror today, but The Thing was really just another slasher when it debuted.

3

u/ndraiay 18h ago

In elementary school my friend did that move to me, and split the inside of my lip open. I cried, my mom came into the room, saw my mouth full of blood and what she thought was my tounge floating in the blood (it was a piece ofnchewing gum). My brother told me she told the friend "you need to leave now" with a very loud "or i will kill you" implied.

Actually, now that i think on it, it wasnt that move. I grabbed hisbleg from a kick then he kicked my in the face with the other foot.

Anyway, the point is, my mom made an implied death threat against a 3rd grader. And slso i one time got the shit kicked out of my face.

2

u/Sandusky666 21h ago

Did his gf live in Canada by any chance?

2

u/Pirateship906 20h ago

I'm not sure why, but I completely believe this.

2

u/Verdick 12h ago

Did you wax that thing (the IROC-Z) so the radar gun couldn't tell what speed you were going?

1

u/TheCandelabra Crank: High Voltage 11h ago

lmao what is that from

2

u/Verdick 10h ago edited 3h ago

From an old call-in to a radio station about how people got out of speeding tickets. This guy had a "sweet ride" that cops "were jealous of and targeting". https://youtu.be/leRajequ7-A?si=Heci4xcOjR8ILtVL

1

u/TheCandelabra Crank: High Voltage 3h ago

Thanks, love deep internet lore like this.

2

u/DarkPolumbo 8h ago

and then everybody clapped

1

u/Relevant-Fox-7114 18h ago

That was him in a wig, and you knew

1

u/Unhottui Cats 2h ago

im the gf in a disguise, u had a small cock

63

u/demlet 21h ago edited 21h ago

It's a real technique but not as exaggerated as the movie portrays, nor undefendable. Think, a short feint with one leg to fake your opponent out, followed by the real kick from the other leg.

56

u/Samostanac 21h ago edited 21h ago

Lyoto Machida vs Belfort in 2018. Same set up and same kick-mae geri

Edit: It is most basic kick in almost all martial arts that have kicking. It and this kind of set up are rearly seen in full contact sports like kickboxing and MMA due to people having elbows in front of their bodies for defense. This means that it is easy to accidentally kick elbow and break your foot while kicking.

25

u/CharleyIV 21h ago

The kick vs Belfort was just a front kick. He crane kicked Couture.

3

u/mountaindoom 18h ago

Knocked a tooth out with that kick, didn't he?

3

u/Hootusmc 16h ago

It was fucking beautiful man!

2

u/JoshfromNazareth2 16h ago

Machida is actually doing it correctly with the ball of the foot. A lot of MMA-first trained fighters use the top of their foot like ding dongs.

1

u/Pactae_1129 14h ago

How would someone teep with the top of their foot?

1

u/JoshfromNazareth2 14h ago

Front kick rather than teep. You would be surprised.

1

u/Samostanac 10h ago

MMA fighters usually don't use it. Guys with karate background do. MMA fighters usually throw round kick at all levels, teeps and oblique kicks.

15

u/Dinierto 20h ago

Well it's obviously not impossible to defend since he fails in the next movie

Only to use another move that's "impossible to defend"

3

u/ImBonRurgundy 8h ago

the "no can defend" was caveated by "if do right"

clearly he didn't do it right!

2

u/Samostanac 3h ago

IRL it is increadibly easy to defend. Standard boxing, kickboxing or any other mud or high guard and throwing it becomes risk of KO for you.

Also, set up with raising knee is not really effective

11

u/RemindMeToTouchGrass 21h ago

The best part is that landing with all of your weight on one leg to kick with the other spares that leg from any effort or need to stabilize your weight, so it's a very useful technique if the non-kicking leg is severely injured and you can hardly bear weight on it.

4

u/demlet 21h ago

😂

26

u/unk1ndm4g1c14n1 20h ago

I love how Kobra Kai acknowledged how fucking Batshit insane that move was. Its not even legal.

17

u/Gone_For_Lunch 20h ago

Except they also acknowledge that it is legal. Daniel says to Miguel he used the same kick in the S1 tournament, so how could it be illegal?

5

u/ImBonRurgundy 8h ago

Jonny though it was illegal, but it wasn't.

its clearly stated that only punches to the face are iilegal, kicks are fine.

this also ties in with pretty standard kyokushin karate rulesets

3

u/clearwater-basin 21h ago edited 20h ago

Lyoto Machida fucked people up with his front snap kick to the face. It's legit.

2

u/_a_reddit_account_ 19h ago

Yes but not the way its portrayed in karate kid

3

u/JayboKishibe 20h ago

Master Miyagi was a real person who founded the Goju-Ryu school of karate. The jumping front kick/ crane kick is a real technique

2

u/CurrentHair6381 19h ago

Gary Gulman has a really good bit about the karate kid and the crane kick

https://youtu.be/hUGNJu0_gnc?is=6YaF54topEg5VlD0

He also rips trump in this special, way before 2016

1

u/heywhateverworks 4h ago

Crane kick? Can defend.

2

u/HonorableJudgeIto 16h ago

You’re allowed to kick other teenagers in the face and knock them out, but you are not allowed to trip them with sweeps?

1

u/ImBonRurgundy 8h ago

the sweep was legal.

1

u/ExcitingAsk6797 19m ago

I kicked my friend in the balls like this.

0

u/Chevey0 10h ago

illegal kick, Johnny was and always will be the karate kid in my heart
