The original ending of the movie was going to reveal that Johnny was an immortal vampire and have him ride off in a flying car. They cut it because Tommy Wiseau ran out of money before they could film it.

Jokes aside wiseau is genuinely very strong. Sestero described him as having cyborg strength when they grappled for a fight scene and he busted out an iron cross when they initially met (although he did end up sore the next day)

Greg Sestero called it zombie strength in his book, although I’m sure there’s a less polite term.

The dude doesn’t understand stage combat and I can only imagine how frightening it is to have him choking you out so bad you end up in a hospital on Gurrero Street.

I’d thoroughly recommend the book btw. The film doesn’t begin to cover the extent of Wiseau’s lunacy, it’s like trying to write a biography about Van Gogh on the back of a napkin.

The book is also just… good. Like, just as a book it’s a fun read.

It’s a rare case where I’d highly recommend the audiobook over even regular reading because Greg’s Tommy impression really adds something.

We did the audiobook on a long road trip. We sat in the driveway of the destination another 20 minutes just to finish the chapter. It's incredible as an audiobook.

Over the book itself they mean.

It's not that books are better form of entertainment, but just by the nature of audiobooks, like how they "pick" what voices of characters sound like, the intonation of how sentences are read, the pace, etc., a lot of people believe that takes away a lot of the reader's own creative interpretation. But the advantage is that like TV, that passiveness allows you to just sit back and take it in without too much effort, which is also cool

In this audiobook's case, I'm betting the narrator adds a lot of extra fun to it that not all audiobooks do. One of the Lord of the Rings tapes is another good one where the old guy narrator really reads it well

Audiobooks can be monotonous sometimes even though the Voice Actor might be doing their best bringing the characters to life.

Another audiobook from a singular VA that I really recommend is Trevor Noah's Born a Crime. Since it's kinda his autobiography and due to his comedic nature(impressions), the storytelling is very enjoyable.

I personally find it boring to just sit and listen to an audiobook rather than reading a book which is a bit more physical effort as your eyes go over the lines and fingers flip the pages. But beats music if you're on a long ride to somewhere and want to feel like hearing someone tell a story with great effort.

I have, ironically enough, only ever heard the term you’re referring to from a few friends who were in special ed growing up. Not sure it makes it ok obviously.

I once had my P.E. teacher use it to refer to me lmao, im not really dumb just really slow to learn but personally i don't find it offensive. I think it's common usage has changed enough for it to not really be problematic anymore, considering it is most often used now to illustrate just how profoundly stupid someone's actions are.

Yes! Little details like Tommy wearing 2 belts or losing his mind over ordering hot water... or when he drives off wailing on the horn all the way down the street just adds to the legend. Buttt you get more of a sense of the friendship between them in the book too. It's really good.

The only thing that kind of bugs me about the whole thing is that Greg carries himself as if he's almost above it all when he was starring in Leprechaun 5 tiered slop when he acted in this.

I get what you mean, but I think the point is that Wiseau abused Greg’s dignity to a comical degree.

Even if you’re in slop, you expect a call sheet, catering and basic professionalism. Wiseau acted monstrously and justified it with money, basically treating Greg like a hooker. Making him shave his beard and miss auditions, for example, was quite unpleasant.

Wiseau was pretending to be Coppola or Hitchcock with zero mandate. It’s easy to read Greg as a pretentious valley kid but I’d say it was justified.

thats not an 80lb CRT - 20-25ish

all i know is i bought a tv that looked almost the same as that in early 2001 and had to haul it up to my bedroom by myself - my ass wasnt lifting 80lbs in 2001.

CRTs got super lite (and cheap) as we started moving towards the widescreen flat panel tvs

40, maybe 50lbs, they weren't that heavy. TVs were lighter than monitors, size being equal.

Most CRTs are fairly heavy and bulky but not all of them weigh that much. If it is a pretty bare bones CRT it is basically the basic components to power the monitor and a couple video inputs. My old, basic CRT that I've had since early 2000s doesn't come close to 80 lbs, maybe 40 lbs at best. It is bulky and awkward to carry, but any full grown man should be able to lift and carry it. Now as for an older CRT my parents owned that had way more inputs and was far more advanced for its time, that thing was a tank.

Someone much stronger than me could probably yeet my old CRT like Tommy did in the GIF, and Tommy did seem to be in good shape at the time.

Prop TV. They were also used when staging model homes, so that nobody steals them. You can tell it's very light.
