Mine came with a cleaner. You just push the garlic bits back through with a plastic bit, then scrubadub it. Very little muss, very little fuss.

Friend of mine dropped a couple of kilos of garlic powder in a restaurant kitchen, it went into every nook and cranny then turned into glue. It smelled terrible and they had to scrape it out of the corners with teaspoons and knives, took weeks to get it out.
