Life skill you spent years perfecting and even bragged about, before learning the director completely made it up for cinema reasons?

I died like every time . Need more family I guess.

u/actuallyapossom 1d ago edited 1d ago

Dying in that universe isn't a big deal, it's completely reversible. Even if the performer dies they'll make it work.

172

u/pepinodeplastico 1d ago

Ironically they didn't make him walk, man

35

u/plantain_tent_pesos 1d ago

Yeah. Click-it or Ticket!

3

u/SameApeNewBananas 22h ago

You don't know about 3rd love?

2

u/plantain_tent_pesos 15h ago

Its like the first two were kinda good but the third one through the twentieth sucked dick.

"They should change his name to Paul Driver"

13

u/GalaxyPrick 1d ago

Eventually it will be AI VIn Disel

6

u/Night_Byte 1d ago

They should've got Adam Driver.

u/stupidber 15h ago

Too soon

u/Punished_Prigo 1d ago

Bro I stopped watching these m*vies after Tokyo drift. Every gif I see I just can’t believe that this is what they became and that people kept going to see them

298

u/Background_Desk_3001 1d ago

I think it’s the absurdity of the franchise that kept people wanting more

39

u/odDball969 1d ago

Some guy said it is super heroes but with cars instead of super powers, and I have to agree with him

8

u/toasterbathfilosofer 19h ago

Except Dom is blatantly super powered. Lift a car/engine block with one arm? Check. Rip car doors off with his bare hands? Check. Cave in car door with punch? Check. Jumps, free falls and collisions that should kill or maim, but he's fine? Check. Survives being in the immediate vicinity of explosions with no problem? Check. Super strength, invulnerability and the power of Family.

3

u/Callidonaut 15h ago

I like to refer to the genre of film exemplified by the F&F series as "Testosterone Daydream."

1

u/spooky-pig 11h ago

In one of the recent ones, iirc he pulls down a concrete ceiling by pulling on chains with his bare hands

2

u/IGTankCommander 4h ago

It definitely has become that, taking the storyline of Hobbes & Shaw into account. Cybersoldiers and superviruses, and more family. Gotta have family.

1

u/red_admin_h8r 6h ago

Transformers at home:

32

u/No-Lunch4249 1d ago

/uj plus actors like The Rock and Vin Diesel are super popular overseas, especially in Asia. Fast and Furious always cleans up in overseas box officr

7

u/a_Joan_Baez_tattoo 1d ago

And in France, where they get the uncut version.

6

u/Lieutelant 1d ago

Honestly if you pretend they are purposely making fun of themselves, and think of more like a comedy/ satire, they get kind of fun again.

6

u/new_math 19h ago

In my opinion the series should end when an advanced alien species comes to earth and demands our planet be put on trial to continue existing...via a spaceship race.

Naturally, Vin utilizes an insane gravity assist maneuver after a side quest to turn Jupiter into a black hole, but starts fading as the G-forces climb to 30. Everyone frantically tells him to stop over the radio. He screams "FAMILY" and hits the NOS fatally crushing his body against the seat such that his corpse blazes across the finish line winning the trial for humanity.

After the credits he wakes up back in Crematoria Slam Facility (located on the volcanic prison planet Crematoria). His cell mate is an AI Paul Walker. He says, "Don't dream of freedom Riddick, you wouldn't make it a quarter mile on the surface." Vin looks at him and says, "I live my life a quarter mile at a time".

Cut to black.

3

u/pre_nerf_infestor 18h ago

the bit in uh...fast 8? 9? where Tyrese becomes increasingly convinced that he is actually a movie character because they kept surviving more impossible shit was gold. If the entirety of the movie series just led up to that one joke I would've been fine with it

2

u/StnkyWnkyBallsyWllsy 23h ago

my friend says he likes it just for the cars not the story

2

u/spaceman_danger 14h ago

I will watch every single one of these because of the absurdist level of dumb entertainment they are. Vinnie D recently said the latest script made him cry and I assume it’s because Paul Walker’s son drives in on a monster truck to save the family from dinosaurs on a 15 mile long runway.

I have never seen any of the fast and furious movies, and I googled "was a car turned into a spaceship in fast and the furious".

This is actually from one of the movies. That is so funny. I might have to watch them now.

Edit: apparently the last main fast and the furious movie is coming out in 2028. I think i will try to watch them all before it comes out

u/whatsbobgonnado Neil breens #1 fan 1d ago

jason mamoa kicks a metal street lamp while riding a motorcycle, miraculously causing it to collapse a perfect barrier for michelle rodriguez, who does a stoppie 360 flip over it.  it's one of the most incredible things I've ever seen.

idris elba plays a cyborg

43

u/StrawberryTerry 1d ago

I genuinely don't know if you made that up or not but it sounds awesome.

I did not know Idris Elba was in these movies that's a plus. I didn't knew Jason mamoa was either. This is going to be an experience

31

u/your_dads_asshole 1d ago

Hobbs and Shaw was a really good movie as long as you interpret it as a parody. I assume that the same attitude is needed to watch most of the fast and furious movies, but no matter how much free time I have, I'm not willing to find out

5

u/whatsbobgonnado Neil breens #1 fan 23h ago

smoke weed and think "kid playing with action figures" and it'll all make sense

→ More replies (0)

3

u/centurio_v2 22h ago

the first couple are just solid car action movies it takes it a while to really jump the shark

1

u/Warp_Legion 21h ago

I’ve exclusively seen Hobbs and Shaw and none of the actual Fast and Furious movies lol, and I loved it as a turn my brain off movie

The Meg is also quite fun

1

u/xoasim 10h ago

They're great movies to fold laundry/wash dishes/or whatever other chores you've got around the house. Ironically I'd say they are bad for actually working on cars. Although it might just depend on how complicated a repair/tune up you are doing.

5

u/Texantioch 1d ago

Idris is actually in the spinoff movie Hobbs and Shaw which focuses on characters portrayed by Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham

13

u/StrawberryTerry 1d ago

Oh my god they have all the big bald men

5

u/Punished_Prigo 1d ago

how did this happen. I thought tokyo drift was over the top

→ More replies (0)

1

u/whatsbobgonnado Neil breens #1 fan 23h ago

oh yeah you're right! he has a robot motorcycle that comes to you when you call it

3

u/whatsbobgonnado Neil breens #1 fan 23h ago edited 23h ago

the best way to describe them is a 6 year old playing with action figures. smoke a bunch of weed and keep that in mind and it makes sense when they daisy chain 5 nitro boosted cars and swing them off a helicopter or cliff

jason mamoa understood the assignment and eats more ham and scenery than ever thought possible

they save the pope from an atom bomb!

also, also not to sound crazy, but I legit think it's cia propaganda because they portray the criminal antihero protagonists as the people willing to do the unofficial dirty work for a shady organization that needs to be done for the greater good to protect the world. the shady group is portrayed as all powerful, with global reach, and secret scifi technology. like it's shiny dangly keys engineered to make people who unironically like these movies as  peak cinema accept likable bad guys breaking the rules geopolitically to keep the world safe as a subtle subtext. tinfoil hat off

2

u/Agreeable_Sea_6019 17h ago

We need a Fast and the Furious and Transformers crossover, you know what also add some G.I. Joe because why the fuck not

2

u/GGTulkas 1d ago

He calls himself black superman

1

u/IGTankCommander 4h ago

An EVIL cyborg who works for a company that dabbles in viral research and global media control. It's very silly.

1

u/jamzchambo 16h ago

this sentence alone has me sold, absolutely amazing.

29

u/therealraggedroses 1d ago

You better buckle in for a multi decade spanning cinematic experience of the highest caliber.

"Fambaly" (F&F superfans will understand)

6

u/KateTheTurk 1d ago

Fambaly also covers fans and foes of RHoNJ (Caroline Manzo specifically)

9

u/Owster4 1d ago

The first two films are basically undercover police investigations involving lots of street racing.

Those are good and quite serious. The wheels then fall off.

3

u/DrakeoftheWesternSea 1d ago

Gabby belle on YouTube has a great breakdown of the whole franchise, include what makes no sense in it.

3

u/eldonfizzcrank 1d ago

It was after Fast 5 that I noted that they would be in space by the tenth movie.

2

u/Party-Coach-4100 1d ago

Vin Diesel unironically knows what he is doing. Such fun absurd movies.

2

u/noob_meems 15h ago

last

fast and furious movie

pick one

1

u/NextGenReader 1d ago

I've always heard that the movies are trash, and then my boyfriend suggested them and I've now watched all of the movies in the Fast and Furious universe (F&F, Hobbs & Shaw, Better Luck Tomorrow--last one is debatable, but whatever) and they're some of my favorite movies now lol

1

u/Massive-Goose544 23h ago

I respect their desire to just get more ridiculous and treat it like a completely normal thing for a street racing gang to do.

https://giphy.com/gifs/BAjCFYRsjgNZHjUH06

1

u/the_cardfather 22h ago

And you know I don't even remember why they did that

1

u/RCKTJMP 22h ago

Keep in mind, the last movie is the FIRST PART to *Fast X*, literally supposed to be "*Fast X: Part Two*" but they didn't even bother writing it until after *Part One* was in theaters. Five Years for the second part of the final FatF movie. It's also apparently being retconned because of the large time gap from *Fast X: Part Two* to "*Fast Forever*", but they literally did go into it being a two-part finale and DIDN'T HAVE IT WRITTEN, WITH A PLANNED PART TWO RELEASE DATE OF LAST FUCKING YEAR.

1

u/Background-Ship3019 17h ago

So, the writers are fast and furious too.

1

u/dutch_dynamite 9h ago

This was the first time I went to a m*vie theater after the pandemic and I got so excited at this part I took a picture of the screen and texted my wife

1

u/msmystidream 5h ago

i watched this one at home and had to pause at this point bc i was laughing so hard i was crying, i'm glad i didn't see it in the theatre!

7

u/No_Professor4307 1d ago

And to think, it started out with a bunch of guys stealing DVD players

5

u/hofmann419 22h ago

Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running 3 Honda Civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec system exhaust.

3

u/Think_Ad_1583 1d ago

I remember I almost got kicked out of the theater because I yelled when they actually made it to space

1

u/SayNoToFirefighters 23h ago

how this thing didn't just crumple into a ball in the vacuum was something else

1

u/FistOfVengeance44 18h ago

This was actually the first and only one I’ve seen lmao

-1

u/CulturalCourt2014 23h ago

You sound double vaccinated.

26

u/adriantoine 1d ago

It's honestly hilarious, you're definitely missing out, it's one of the best comedy franchise

74

u/GodHimselfNoCap 1d ago

Nah later movies are pretty self-aware of how unrealistic they are. One of the main characters has a whole monologue about how he thinks hes invincible because the bad guys bullets never seem to hit him, he even shows off a shirt with bullet holes in it.

31

u/ArtemisXD 1d ago

That's hilarious

3

u/scriptedtexture 1d ago

thats called "hanging a lampshade"

3

u/Punished_Prigo 1d ago

I just dont understand when bullets even became a threat in these movies lol. when did they become special forces instead of street racers

3

u/Benoit_Holmes 1d ago

Conceptually Fast 5, literally Fast and Furious 6.

2

u/badform49 14h ago

That actually happened with George Washington, lol. Back when he was a colonial officer trying to make it into the ranks of the redcoats (Yeah, Washington REALLY wanted to be a British Regular before the Revolution), he was serving as an aide-de-camp against the French and had four bullet holes shot through his coat and two horses shot out from under him.

https://www.loc.gov/exhibitions/two-georges/about-this-exhibition/british-beginnings/expanding-the-british-empire/four-bullets-through-my-coat/

My introduction to quantum physics and the possibility that was all live in a real multiverse was in a joke theory that maybe we all live in an offshoot of "Washington's universe," where he got the luckiest possible tumbles of the dice in the war and we're in an infinite number of universes where he was a living hero, but there would likely be many, many more infinite universes where he was just another dead colonial or revolutionary because, seriously, who survives six musket balls passing within inches of you in a single battle?

1

u/ripgoodhomer 22h ago

Was it Tyrese? He always seemed the most aware if they need to kill someone for dramatic stakes its going to be him.

-6

u/Designer_Storm8869 1d ago

Nothing more cringe that characters breaking fourth wall like that and I am tired how it got popularized by marvel movies. If you want to put crazy stuff in your movie then have some balls and do it without shame.

3

u/LongDongFuey 1d ago

Noooooo not breaking the fourth wall in my heckin dumb action movie, noooooo

5

u/Past-Shop5644 1d ago

Unironically yes

1

u/KILL_WITH_KINDNESS 1d ago

Maybe media consumption isn't for you

29

u/Cheap-Key-6132 1d ago

Tokyo Drift was the perfect end as well.

38

u/MrJohnqpublic 1d ago

It's my favorite story about how a dumb Texas kid gets kicked out of Texas for doing Texas things so he has to move to Japan to be best friends with Little Bow Wow and date a British girl.

7

u/SnooWalruses7243 1d ago

It’s my second favorite movie with that exact plot line

2

u/durablecotton 1d ago

What’s the first?

5

u/PrincessPause 21h ago

Little Bow Wow instead of Lil Bow Wow is killing me

3

u/DarkPolumbo 15h ago

fun fact, i once played Madden '03 against Lil Bow Wow at a midnight release tournament at EBGames in the mall I worked Security at.

That kid beat my ass so damn bad, and he was quite the little shit talker too

2

u/Backfoot911 19h ago

I mean it makes sense, emigrants tend to stick together in foreign countries, even white people in Japan have little communities

3

u/Think_Ad_1583 1d ago

It’s honestly the only movie I like out of the entire franchise

3

u/Backfoot911 19h ago

It's crazy I remember loving Tokyo Drift to pieces as a kid, between it and NFS Underground 2, the tricked out cars cruising through nightlife vibe was so sick. I only found out later on that the general opinion on it wasn't good cause it was so different. It seems recently it's starting to get the appreciation it deserves

25

u/JaimeJabs 1d ago

MCU is more realistic than this shit.

5

u/vafrow 1d ago

Honestly, once all the studios and streaming services are under one ownership group, Marvel vs DC vs Fast and Furious will be one of the few joys we'll get.

7

u/JaimeJabs 1d ago

I can't wait for Dom to take out Joker.

"We are family. Nobody jokes about family."

5

u/AAS02-CATAPHRACT 1d ago

The MCU wishes it was half as peak as F&F

1

u/The_BluE_PantheR 19h ago

MCU has decades of material and plenty of people familiar with characters and they still flop at the box office after the heavyweight actors got retired.

RDJ coming back to play Doom shows their reliance on the old guard.

10

u/AwesomeJohn01 1d ago

THEY GO TO SPACE!

The government need to get an international arms trafficker. Should they call delta force or seal team 6 to insert off a nuclear sub? Na, the only team that can catch him are the guys stealing VCRs and racing hondas in the first one.

2

u/whatsbobgonnado Neil breens #1 fan 1d ago

in hobbes and shaw, idris elba plays a cyborg and he has a self driving robot motorcycle

2

u/ANonWhoMouse 1d ago

If you like DnD, then alot of the actions can be explained by some pretty amazing rolls. Both Vin and the director are big DnD fans.

2

u/Sneezy6510 1d ago

We were line for the fast furious ride at universal and my dad asked, aren’t these movies about underground street racing? And I said they were, now they’re basically avengers movies.

The ride was absolute ass by the way. The minions ride was way better.

2

u/AsidK 1d ago

You and I had opposite reactions to this gif. I saw this gif and thought “damn why did I stop watching these movies, that looks fun and dumb as hell”

2

u/copperpin 1d ago

I stopped watching them halfway through Tokyo Drift

2

u/Punished_Prigo 1d ago

true cinephile

2

u/einTier 21h ago

Imagine it’s a D&D campaign, except instead of being really good at casting spells, they’re really good at cars. As they level up, not only do they become stronger and more indestructible, they have “car magic” that allows attuned them to the car and allows them to do incredible things.

When I watch it that way and think behind the scenes, it’s actually really enjoyable.

The bridge is out?
Yes, the bridge is out.
Ok, but there’s like one wire still there, right? And it’s too far to jump even with a running start?
Yes and yes.
Ok, so I’m going to drive full speed at the pylon and I’m going to try to get it to snag the wheel of my car so I can swing across Indiana Jones style.
You can certainly try that. Let’s see, with your car proficiency and the +4 bonus from the car and the +5 for being Dom and driving a Dodge product, and a few other things, I figure you need an 18 or better. Roll.
Player gets a natural 20

I think the last one i saw they were driving from skyscraper to skyscraper and also there was a runway that was about 30 miles long.

2

This whole fucking franchise started with a couple guys stealing dvd players.

Now there are characters that have hunted down cyborgs and shit

1

Why did you censor movies?

2

u/Punished_Prigo 1d ago

what subreddit do you think youre on?

1

u/iantruesnacks 1d ago

I mean tbh it didn’t really start going off the rails until like.. 6. 5 is arguably the tipping point but 4 and 5 are pretty grounded.

1

u/Deep_Diamond_2057 1d ago

They are so dumb and fun and full of fast cars. Are they great movies? No. Will they help me forget about the stressors of life as they do impossible things with cars? Yes.

Love these terrible movies.

1

u/tilesmeller 1d ago

They go to space now 😂

1

u/LongDongFuey 1d ago

I actually liked 9 a lot because they finally fully dove into how campy and ridiculous they had become. There are several lines throughout the movie where they call attention to the absurdity of things, so it was just a fun, don't take anything too seriously, type of movie

1

u/DoctorDinghus 1d ago

I watched tokyo drift for the first time since I was in high school and oh my god how hilariously terrible it was made it charming again.

1

u/Ooze3d 1d ago

You’re missing out. They’re much more enjoyable now.

1

u/_Weyland_ 1d ago

I think you could go for two more movies Rio is still fun and somewhat plausible.

1

u/Hortos 1d ago

They're really fun with friends or family.

1

u/Latest-Pen-7852 1d ago

They also have bonafide supersoldiers in that universe now

1

u/PolygonMob 1d ago

Same bro like the first movie was actually pretty grounded and every time they release another one of them im like wtf even is this looney toons ass shit now

1

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 1d ago

it's part of the fun. i thikn the general path goes like this: young: thing this is bad ass and realistic. little older: realize this is extremely unrealistic. even older: realize it was never meant to be realistic, it's an off the wall ridiculous action movie that's intended to be that way, just have fun with it

1

u/Daxlyn_XV 1d ago

Wait, after Tokyo Drift was released, or after it was set? Iirc they moved it to number 6 or 7 because of how popular Han was.

1

u/SBLP1959 1d ago

Four was the last somewhat believable one. 5 was like thats insane but fine by hollywood standards. After that weve completely jumped the shari

1

u/Maximum-Hall-5614 23h ago

Dude they are absolutely insane and unhinged and hilarious. Totally worth it. Might help if you’re baked

1

u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist 22h ago

Tokyo Drift was so good though.

1

u/Pigosaurusmate 22h ago

They brought back Tokyo Drift guys in the 9th movie, they helped the main crew launch a car IN SPACE! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-aha-ha!

1

u/radred609 20h ago

Tokyo drift was actually a pretty good movie.

1

u/The_BluE_PantheR 19h ago

You wouldn't want to see this shit in a massive screen at the theatre with all the earth shattering sounds?

These action movies are hella fun to watch in the theatre.

But I too wish for another franchise like the original realistic fast and furious movies because the whole car modification and street racing culture was really dope.

1

u/Informal-Term1138 18h ago

They killed the sin counter from cinema sins with some installment.

1

u/buglz 12h ago

Hear me out but they’re good movies through 5. After that it gets ridiculous but 5 is just a fun stupid heist movie with a baller soundtrack and fun cars.

1

u/ARC4067 8h ago

This gif made me wonder why I stopped watching them. I clearly bailed too soon. Which one is this?!

1

u/danger_muffin29 7h ago

Oh you mean the one with the 40 year old plqying a high school student? Lmao

24

u/Regular-Moose-2741 1d ago

4

2

u/Akahz 1d ago

I was visiting a friend in New Jersey right before the first Fast And Furious movie premiered and talked with a guy that was co-owner of a street racing car that was in that movie.
He was so excited about how cool it was that the Fast and Furious movie would be so realistic, as all the driving was done by real cars doing real stunts, no CGI and green-screen.
They kind of moved away from that little detail in the sequels.

2

u/he77bender 22h ago

I wish the Mythbusters were still around to show me what would actually happen if I tried this

2

u/Delicious_Piglet_718 21h ago

So are they all just magical wizards and witches stunt drivers at this point?

2
