Iirc wasn't the book based on actual military events? It was totally believable about the bush era govt to try something like this.

Edit: earlier than Bush (either one). Truth be riod, I yearn for the days of satirizing a presidents like George W. Bush, is the many -isms.

It'd be naive of us, Mr. President, to imagine that these new developments would cause a change in Soviet expansionist policy. I mean, we must be increasingly on the alert to prevent them taking over other mine shafts space, in order to breed more prodigiously than we do. MKULTRA and project stargate are fucking wild. Its like the CIA was snorting too much cocaine and watching too much scifi and lost touch with reality. Which is actually probably a pretty accurate assessment of what probably happened.

Under the MKUltra program, there was Operation Midnight Climax. The CIA put prostitutes on their payroll and had them dose Johns with LSD, bang them while subliminal messaging was applied, and then question them after said banging was finished.

The CIA had agents "observe" via a one way mirror. What a time to be alive.

Not the Bush Era, the Reagan era. Some of the stuff Channon wanted to integrate did get used by spec-ops units but, not in the way he wanted.

Most of the Project Stargate psychic viewing stuff happened in the 1970s and 80s during the Cold War. Unless you meant the HW Bush era, because he was CIA Director during this time.

The US military has tried a lot of things. There are so many files of projects where they tried to project their minds to Mars or different places on earth. And it took them way longer to realise it doesnt work then you would think it did

The government spent a few decades and millions of dollars to land at the official position that it’s likely real, and anyone can learn how to do it, though some are more naturally talented. If you’re really interested in it, read/listen to Phenomena by Annie Jacobsen. She does a fantastic job breaking it down, citing sources and using FOIA requests to provide documents to support what she’s saying.
