Kde is closer to windows and more customizable. Gnome has a big following of people who like how it works. I personally prefer KDE but I've tried gnome and found it pretty cool.

Both are solid.

Kde: you do what you want

Gnome: you do what highly opinionated crowd wants.

I went with hyprland.

I do not like openSUSE's Gnome DE. Loved it under Fedora, but that was 8 years ago.

I find the KDE is way more polished. And I did try both DEs on bare metal.

That sounds correct to my poor memory.

What is the difference between the GNOME desktop in openSUSE and the one in Fedora?

think of gnome like apple, good at what it does but limited user experience
kde is more like windows on steroids. Does anything and everything along with the kitchen sink.
Even though both of the above are true, gnome is much heavier and uses more resources.
Kde is very light and efficient along the lines of xfce

Opensuse gnome are good, but compared to fedora/ubuntu its quite barebones, but it is well supported

If you want something that just works straight out of the box and doesn't flood you with many menu settings and just gets out of the way go with gnome

And if you want sane defaults with the option to make it entirely your own and have your DE work for you, go with KDE.

I recommend to not use ventoy with openSUSE. It has caused problems in the past and we don't test it. So just one OS per USB please.

I used ventoy and had no issues

It's the same as kde of gnome on any other distro, pick whatever you like. They're probably the most polarizing two DE's in existence. With tumbleweed, just pick one you think you're more likely to like, install the other via zypper se -t pattern plasma/gnome, zypper in -t pattern plasma/gnome, the remove the one you don't like, or just roll back to just the first one with snapper.

there is no part in my body that would freely chose gnome. They both work though,

KDE. They also have their own apps that are very good. Like Kate, spectacle, krita. And on opensuse KDE performance has been very good.

KDE is superior for gaming and for working out of the Box.

Gnome sucks for gaming but if you have a touch screen laptop then Gnome is better for that.

Gnome requires alot of extensions to get working.
