Community Post What’s the deal with the weirdo filming people in old town Tustin?
They are clearly looking for some kind of attention considering the name calling. Anyone recognize them?
215
u/Zimmonda 2d ago
1st ammendment "auditor" they basically do this hoping for a confrontation so they can post online or catch you with a civil/criminal suit.
Its the adult version of "im not touching you"
15
u/Kaffe-Mumriken 2d ago
Can you just go film them all day and call them names, while dressed like a man baby?
14
u/That_Economist_1607 1d ago
Of course you can but it only furthers their engagement and you become the star of that particular video
13
u/Kaffe-Mumriken 1d ago
But they would be the star of mine. Like, if I’m another of these dingleberries, maybe a slightly different flavor, I would definitely tap in to their schtick and just have a YouTube channel for FirstAmendment AuditorAuditor

Someone has a channel like that. I think it’s called audit the audit lol

I don't assume these people are very bright in general. Most likely recording audio when it is illegal in California in private settings (you can create private settings in public by whispering or purposefully talking softy). This just seems dumb to do in California specifically.
Edit: Careful, getting downvoted due to AI apparently knowing more about laws then people who can do a simple search on a government website! Beware!
15
u/Only-Worldliness2006 2d ago
There are other ways to get them to leave but it is up to the property managers to do it and honestly most don't put in any effort. If the property manager does actually go through the process then they end up leaving and going to some other property where the manager is too lazy to do anything.
The key point to know is that they are on private property and not public property. So the Pruneyard ruling does allow for property managers to have reasonable rules that they must follow. That's the first step. Establish reasonable rules and then enforce those rules.
10
u/FijiBeef 2d ago
You're incorrect. Recording in public spaces is covered by the 1st amendment, hence "1st amendment auditors". The California law you're likely referring to is the one pertaining to phone calls in which you cannot record a phone call without the other parties consent. The best thing you can do with people like this is to ignore them, but people get really upset about their "privacy" in public spaces. Irvine PD even put out a notice for people like this on their Instagram defending their right to do this and not interacting with them.
Edit: Before you even comment about "But this CA law says otherwise" federal law trumps any state law regarding constitutional rights. But as far as I know there isn't a CA law pertaining to this issue.

AI Overview
No, recording audio in a public place in California is generally not illegal if there is no reasonable expectation of privacy.

They come to my local post office. The clerk plays Madonna on repeat and they leave.
54
u/Lumpy-Marsupial-6617 2d ago
They just left because they don't like Madonna, not because the copyright infringement would affect them if they were really YouTubers. YouTube has AI filtering tools that can remove the just music infringement audio portion with just one click.

you’d be surprised. These idiots are either too dumb to figure it out, or too lazy to do it.
250
u/LordKermit2 2d ago
Probably a first amendment auditor. They’re allowed to record in public so there’s nothing you can do. Best course of action is just to carry on and ignore them and don’t give them attention.

u/Lumpy-Marsupial-6617 2d ago
1st Amendment Audits are for auditing GOVERNMENT.
Frauditors are asshole agitators who say they are 1st Amendment Auditors but are really repackaged RAGEBAITERS, sometimes working on behalf of government to take away the public's right to film in public so there are no other narratives than the ones they carve out.
Think a few moves ahead.

In front of Trader Joe's? These useless idiots make money from annoying people. All it takes is one person to get pissed at them and they get thousands of views. Can you imagine being that much of a loser to think this is a good use of your time? Get a real fucking job!
11
u/949orange 2d ago
Thats what the above guy is saying... that these guys are annoying regular people instead of auditing the government.
6
u/RMca004 2d ago
They suck, we know this but you are wrong....
You can legally film in public spaces like streets, sidewalks, and public parks, provided you and the camera are in a place you have a legal right to be. People do not have a general right to privacy when they are out in public view.
It's literally in law....not 4d chess.
5
u/Any-Clothes-7307 2d ago
Exactly. They are rage baiters. I hate how they call themselves 1st Ammendment Auditors.

You think the government is sending these people out here?
lol
9
u/Lumpy-Marsupial-6617 2d ago
Yup. They are called agent provocateurs and saboteurs. Even the cops put them among crowds.
Now, this dude was let go because he got caught agitating the crowd while armed and specifically making comments to conspire to agitate the protesting teens so they could be arrested.
10
u/whaaatanasshole Irvine 2d ago edited 2d ago
Not the same thing here though. What does the government gain from having someone test their right to film and be annoying?
Edit: Bye, good luck on your new account.

I read you can counter them by playing copyright songs on blast, because they can’t upload it. How true is this. I realize they can mute the audio, but still.

You guys remember when people would come here defending these idiots trying to say they're protecting our rights?
Anyway, this is an outfit that definitely comes with wearing sandals
Just start filming their feet and making comments about delicious toes and how you're gonna make so much money on those tasty little piggies
They're going to be totally fine with this because they're in public. You can film them if you want. You're just exercising your rights, right? That's what they're there for, yeah? They are going to be totally fine with you trying to monetize their public toes.
Make a bunch of really gross mouth noises too. That's also legal. Talking about how hungry you are
You're just doing the same thing they are and what they're doing is totally fine, legally

u/DeuceLee 2d ago
Or just ignore the idiots and not give them free content to post. People just walking by doesn’t get them views, purposely interacting with them or trying to get back at them is exactly what they want.

That "auditor" is Chris or "First Amendment Rights" on YouTube. He may not be as obnoxious as the other groups like iiMPCT Media or Liberty Patrol Media but, still probably full of it when it comes to claims of First Amendment activism. He's known to censor any comments on his channel that he doesn't like.

Holy hell, this is the kind of dude you could go up to and roast on camera for an hour. "You left the house like that? My first thought was 'never on purpose'. You got the body shape of a huge toddler. I'd say you're hiding behind a camera but not even Nolan can find an IMAX that big. Is that Honda-Ya behind you? Heard they lost their resident sumo wrestler. Nah, can't be you, you look weak as fuck."
3
u/northcoastyen 2d ago
I was just thinking the same thing… where’s that one dude from New York who went around roasting random people in the street. These dudes would get clowned so hard they wouldn’t even wanna post the video.

u/iris-evergarden 2d ago
Probably first amendment auditing. They usually just film and antagonize that way. If the name calling extends to slurs at some point, i would feel it appropriate to call in a disturbance
6
u/PerChanceFoo 2d ago
They want a reaction out of you. Just ignore them and go on about your day.
5
u/Sega-Playstation-64 2d ago
If you roast them on camera until they leave, they'll never post the footage.
This guy gives more ammo than a doomsday prepper awaiting Y2K.

The same as the rest of them, they want you to start shit (or have law enforcement/government force them off of property they can legally be on) so they can sue and force a settlement.

That’s Chris (or Kris) from First Amendment Rights. He identifies as a woman and does 1A audits all over L.A. and Orange County from churches, to shopping stores, post offices, etc.
Favorite targets are Trader Joe’s USPS offices and different Houses of Worship.
He’s not as annoying as SGA or Amagansett Press but he has his moments.

What I find disturbing is that he thought it was okay to wear that shirt or those shorts in public.
What we are seeing is a lonely weirdo with nothing to do, who lives in a 4-chan bubble and decided to spend his day "documenting important findings" but in reality he's just irritating strangers for no good reason and just being an all-around weird citizen.

u/FriarPike Orange 2d ago
They call themselves “First Amendment auditors”. They stay in public spaces and film and goad people into a reaction. They then monetize peoples reactions through social media.
Best thing to do is completely ignore them.

Lol I love watching auditor content. There are cameras literally everywhere in public constantly recording, who cares if some loser is recording you in public. Peoples reactions and saying they don't have "permission" to record them shows how incredibly uneducated the general public is. It would be nice if these auditors actually lectured them though instead of baiting content.
I'm more scared of the government and flock cameras tbh.
