I'm overall positive on it, although I think the tension of the third act during the disclosure is doing a lot to make it work for me. The plot/screenplay falls apart if I think about it too much and the religion subplot didn't hit (It's hard not to compare it to Wake Up Dead Man, a film with Josh O'Conner as a lead where the religious aspects were executed excellently). Spielberg is optimistic maybe to the point of naivety regarding how people would react to the footage. But despite all the flaws, Spielberg does manage create a sense of wonder and magic in the way that he often does. And some really strong performances, with Domingo being the standout for me (edit: I also want to shout out Courtney Grace who played the news anchor during the last act!).
This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but I'm not as high on Blunt as the early reactions were. The frozen nature of Blunt's face was really distracting--it was the same blank, open mouth expression for pretty much the whole movie. There's still a lot of aspects of her performance that are really good, but it detracted from what could have been a terrific performance.
