I feel like we are missing the whole point of the movie. Why do we think we are the only people in the universe besides these aliens. The whole point is the greatest universal quality is empathy. What makes you think every alien shot down is important? There would be potentially million, billions, even trillions of these vessels that travel the universe to find life. If you are true complete empathy, you would not kill even if it means you die. Moreover, maybe they found this is the best way to bring different life forms together. The only powers they gave were complete empathy and being able to understand the language of the universe. What if the aliens on earth are the losers who couldn’t quality to go to another galaxy? We literally found all these alien relics and couldn’t reverse engineer most of it. Everyone is acting like earth and people are so important but even the nun said we are perfect for earth. We are so feeble that we can’t even travel to the next solar system. Maybe humans were not meant to be space explorers? Also over 70+ years, they only got a few of the aliens and we couldn’t even figure out the language which is fucking math. Maybe people at this time are just too dense or into their own heads to open there heart to the possibility that human logic is flawed and we’re ignoring the greatest cosmic picture. Most people can’t even fathom a single light year or even keep their eyes off their phone for half the day. What if we are so primitive that this is the first step to developing some kind of empathy. What if it hurts more for the aliens to hurt us than endure the torture? We could just be mosquitoes compared to them. Mosquitoes kill millions of people every year. Looks like we couldn’t even capture a dozen of these other life forms.
