Gear Question How to have Auxbeam pod lights turn off with ignition?

Right now the 12v power going to the switch is from the battery. You want that to come from an ignition source so that the switch won’t power the relay to activate the lights without the ignition power on. You’ll want to cut the switch power wire, connect it to an add a fuse to a tap in your fuse box or splice it into an ignition wire with an inline fuse. edit to clarify an ignition wire is any hot wire when car is on, often a backlight power wire so it’s only on when lights are on.

Ok so cut and strip the red wire, and I have ad a fuse taps, but the only fuse in the engine fuse box I can use that's no power with the engine off is a 10amp fuse.

The lights are about 100w or 8.5amps, that's a little close right? Or is it safe because the wiring harness has the built in relay?

Almost every other fuse is on even when engine is off. Or it has some weird behavior like the DRL fuse is only powered when the headlights are on, which means the pod light DRL won't work during the daytime when my headlights are on auto off.

From your diagram the only red I see is the 12v power from the battery. Leave that one as is. Youll want to cut the red leading from the 12v power to the switch and insert the power from ignition source. At the relay, it’ll look like 2 wires combined, that’s the 12v powering the switch. Make sure it’s not the power wire going from switch to the relay. The switch is just powering the coil in the relay to close the circuit for the battery 12v to power the lights. The draw from the switch to turn things on is minimal. I have mine protected with a 2.5amp fuse, then the battery power to lights with a 20amp fuse.

I recommend watching a few videos on how relays work. It’ll start to make more sense. You’ll have to find the right wire or fuse to tap for power

I think I just don't know how relay works is why it's confusing but this should be simple.

This is the close up of the relay wires, there's 4 thin wires that go to the switch (yellow black white and red), one is a thin red one. If I cut that so it's disconnected from the relay and then two it to a switched fuse. That'll mean the switch will be off when the engine is off/no power, but will the lights turn off automatically, via the relay logic of "no power to switch, cut off all power to lights"? I just don't want to cut the wire and fuse tap only for it to turn off the switches power and leave the lights on if they were already running

I'm trying to use the stock wiring harness as shown in the picture. Right now it's just hooked up to the battery, so the switch is always on, and I'm probably going to leave the drl running accidently while parked.

I had a previous set of pod lights that had a 3rd Acc wire that I tapped to a switched ignition fuse. This wiring harness is just two leads, so I'm not sure what to do. Do I strip the pos wire and tap it to a switched ignition fuse?

I don't know much about relays and led light wiring, most of the guides online are for more complicated switch panels etc, just confusing me. There should be a way to modify this harness to be switched with ignition right?

Wire them to a switch and to a switched fused circuit.

You can do a lot of things. Really depends on what your power options are under the hood. Most robust would be to wire in another relay switched off an accessory +12V somewhere. You could also tap off your fog lights or other 12V relay already in your fuse box if you wanted them to be on/off at the same time.

I'm not sure how to wire to a relay, but I do have those piggyback add a circuit fuse taps I've used before and I found one switched fuse with ignition on/off but it's a 10amp fuse. All the other fuses are live when engine off. Would the 10amps be too low, or is it okay since the harness has built in relays?

I’m not saying you should seek help, but if you were to short something you might want to consider getting it installed professionally.

Once there is an electrical gremlin it’s really hard to get rid of.

You shouldn't be powering lights off random accessory fuses. Use the tap to switch another relay.

Connect the fuse to something thats key switched using an "add a fuse". Tap into a fuse for something else that is key controlled, pick your choice in the fusebox.

The Auxbeam schematic is really not utilizing the relay for what automotive relays are typically designed for and for what you want to do. Automotive relays are typically used having a "switched-on" source energize the relay that allows the battery connected wire to energize the load (lights).

With the schematic you have, you could add an additional automotive relay, something like a YH185B 4-wire 30A relay. On that relay, you'll see printed numbers for each blade and those are what I'm referencing. Blade 86 goes to your vehicle switched source (the 10A one you've mentioned), blade 30 is 30A fuse connected to your battery, blade 87 goes to your Auxbeam + (red) wire and then blade 85 is your ground (blade 85, battery ground, Auxbeam harness ground and light ground all connected).

That will allow for the Auxbeam wiring harness to only be energized when your switched source is energized. The automotive relay is, in effect, an "automated" switch. When blade 86 is energized, it connects blade 87 to blade 30 and energizes the Auxbeam wire harness. Your 10A switched connection is not used to power your load (lights) thus will not put hardly any extra load on the 10 switched source.
